LUCKNOW: Television star Smriti Irani alias Tulsi on Friday blamed Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the derailment of the Women Reservation Bill in the parliament.

''They (Congress) neither want the women to come in politics, nor they want them at home by hiking the prices of essential commodities,'' said Ms Irani, who is here to participate in the three day BJP national convention.

The BJP leader alleged the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre has failed to improve the condition of women in the country and Congress President herself has ignored the plight to the fairer sex.

''The crime rate against women has increased in the UPA regime and it has done nothing to prove their commitment towards the fairer sex,'' she maintained.

When questioned if BJP was sincere towards the Women Reservation Bill, she said her party was committed to provide women their due share in the politics and other walks of life.

Lucknow: Television's favourite soap queen Smriti Irani alias Tulsi has slammed Congress President Sonia Gandhi for derailment of Women Reservation Bill in the Parliament.

''They (Congress) neither want the women to come in politics, nor they want them at home by hiking the prices of essential commodities,'' said Irani.

The soap queen who had tried her hand at politics and failed miserably was in Lucknow to participate in three-day long BJP national convention.

Irani palpably seeking some political attention by her comments said that the UPA government has failed to improve the condition of women in the country. She said Congress President Sonia Gandhi has ignored the plight to the fairer sex.

''The crime rate against women has increased in the UPA regime and it has done nothing to prove their commitment towards the fairer sex,'' said Irani.

A poor attempt at gaining political mileage, Irani when questioned if BJP was sincere towards the Women Reservation Bill, said her party was committed to provide women their due share in the politics and other walks of life.
