Beti, Ma, Baa to Uma Didi

This monsoon has more to shower as STAR Plus gets together once again with Ekta Kapoor's – Balaji Telefilms, and Smriti Irani to launch its new weekend prime–time venture Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan on Saturday, 19 August, 10.30 PM on STAR Plus.

A co-production between Balaji and the veteran actress turned politician Smriti Irani aka Tulsi Virani of televisions' highest rated prime–time soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Smriti will don another hat as a producer this time, after her many earlier successful on and off-screen ventures in media.

Smriti Irani, the co-producer of the show said, "Apart from co-producing the show with the production house that gave me India's most celebrated show, I'm extremely honored that STAR Plus has given me the opportunity to graduate from an actor to a producer."


The Story
Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan, is a story of Uma didi - a 27-year old obedient daughter of a mill worker, who undertakes several jobs to run the family ever since the mill has shut. Set in the heart of Mumbai in a middle class chawl, it is mostly occupied by the mill workers, who are out of job; a story full of hardships and tribulations of a common man's everyday life. Where Uma will hold the centre stage, as she will be looked up as a source of constant inspiration and driving force for the chawl people, who draw their strength and reason to live from her indomitable spirit!

However, there are more odds to it then even, as the two mill owning brothers Sambhav and Dushyant Jajodia, eye on the very chawl where Uma lives, taking the story on a different track altogether.

Said Smriti Irani on her character – "Uma sees hope in the most difficult times. She takes everything in her stride... The good with the bad. She doesn't have too many expectations - Just wants thodi si zameen thoda sa aasmaan. Zameen denotes her roots... A place to call home and Aasmaan is a reflection of her pursuit of her dreams."

Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan, is a refreshing story with an interesting lineup of popular and seasoned actors of tele screens including – Smriti Irani in the lead; Harsh Chhaya, Vidya Sinha, Pawan Shankar, Jaya Bhattacharya and Sanjeet Bedi to name a few.

The Crew
Produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, the show is co-produced by Smriti Irani and conceptualized by both Smriti Irani and Ekta Kapoor. The story and screenplay of the show with a more 'real-life' appeal is done by Kamlesh Pandey – the acclaimed writer behind Bollywood's blockbuster movies Rang De Basanti and Tezaab and directed by Santram Verma.
