Should adult TV programes be censored?

It is difficult to take a stand on whether it is the right thing to censor programmes on television or not. Today, as in most households both parents go to work, so it is essential for someone to keep a check on the programmes being viewed by children on TV.

Teenagers and youngsters who watch TV see only the obvious; only adults will be mature enough to see beyond the sex and violence shown on television.

I think serials that have attracted wrath from parents and aroused concern among people are the ones that are shown quite late at night. In such cases, it is the parents who should keep a check on what the kids are watching on TV as they will be home to monitor the viewing.

One must remember that besides TV there are many other media of communication through which children and youngsters can be influenced. Vulgarity is easily available these days, especially through the Internet.

So if parents are serious about keeping a check on the programmes their children watch, they should also closely monitor their kids' accessibility to the Net and to video libraries where blue films may be easily rented out.

The elders at home should also maybe consider options like locking the channels, which prevents access to a particular channel. I think it will be difficult for the censor board to screen TV serials that show too much sex or violence. Everybody knows too well that sex sells.

TRP ratings are what mostly govern a serial's content. It is not easy to just pinpoint some shows and ban them. Maybe, some adults find such shows interesting and it is in their best interests if they monitor the viewing of television or accessibility to other media.

There is hardly any channel today that does not show at least one serial that has sex and violence in it. Be it music videos, an English comedy, a movie; all have these two elements in it. It's a complex problem and censoring adult programmes may not be a simple solution.

A very warm welcome to IF. Most of us are addicted to the forum and login each day. So we would have read articles before. Thats the only way I guess people know whats posted before.

If members due to circumstances cant login frequently its possible that the articles may be posted more than once.

If that happens to be the case, one of the members of the dev team will close or trash the topic as appropriate, please do not mind. Having repeat articles wastes space and many would not like to participate in the discussions again
