PART TEN
Quickly parking his car in the garage, he almost jumped out of his BMW convertible and ran to the lifts to get to their huge condo on the topmost floor of the building. Coming out of the lift as he approached their condo, his smile just disappeared. On the door was attached a note that said,
On a date with Jake, don't wait up for me I will be late.
Love,
Gauri.
Taking the piece on paper in his hand he threw it in the dustbin. Frustrated that his angel was not with him on such an important time. Not with him when he wanted to tell the whole world that he was in love. Angry at her that she didn't call to inform him and just left a note, he went inside his room to go get fresh. All of a sudden he felt tired. All his excitement washed out seeing that note on the door.
Getting out of the bathroom, wearing his usual home clothing he sat on the couch to see if something good was being shown. But in vein, even the television people didn't care that Pratham Mittal was finally in love. Oh well, and why would they. As they even knew he existed!
Sighing out of boredom he decided to call Nandini. And her cell was switched off. Just a perfect seal to his already boring evening. He dialed Gauri.
"Hello" said Gauri.
"Now where the hell are you angel?" enquired Pratham.
"I thought I left a note for you" replied Gauri.
"As far as I remember you and me both have cell phones!!"
"I know that too…it just went out of my mind actually that I had to call you…you see Jake is very impatient…he was waiting for me at the door and in a hurry I just wrote you that note because my cell was with him coz I promised no calls while I am with him!" explained Gauri.
"How are you talking with me now?"
"You ask too many questions Mr Mittal. I nicked it from him…he is quite a bit drunk now!!"
"When are you getting home? I have to tell you something very important."
"I don't know. Whenever Jake would let go of me. You know men cannot just keep their hands off of me"
"Yea yea whatever! Just try to come quick alright"
"Yea fine I'll try but cannot promise. So please don't wait up for me. Bye Jake's callin' me"
And with that she cut the phone.
Sighing he went back into his so-called job for the evening, flipping channels on the television. While so doing that, even he couldn't tell when sleep overtook him and he fell asleep on the couch itself.
After 2 hours Gauri entered their condo to see the television on and a sleeping Pratham on the couch. Smiling at the way he slept cuddling on the couch she went over him and softly kissed on his forehead. Looking down at the most important person in her life, a frown slowly appeared on her face.
Thinking to herself that how was she going to tell her best friend the news that would break his heart. She had seen Pratham when he was with Nandini, seen his face while he was on the phone with the same girl. That tender way he always talked to her. How could she just tell her best friend, that the girl who he fell for this time was actually betraying him!!
An hour ago when Gauri saw Nandini in the arms of some other guy, making out in the most vulgar way possible she didn't want to believe it. Gauri always thought Nandini liked Pratham the way he did too. But alas!!
Gently caressing Pratham's cheeks, she stood up and went to her room to go freshen up and get ready for bed, as it was almost 2 in the morning.
After getting all freshened up she went downstairs to go have a check on Pratham to see if he was doing fine on the couch. When she saw he wasn't there, she started for his room and he heard voices, and by the looks of it she knew he was talking to that Nandini. All angry she marched into the room and snatched the cell from his hand and threw it on the floor breaking it into pieces.
"What the heck is wrong with you?" Pratham almost screamed at her.
"What is wrong with me u ask!! What the hell is wrong with you??" she screamed back at him.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with me" he replied back.
"Yea right! You have gone blind Pratham."
"If you will please elaborate," he said all sarcastically. A bit angry at her coz she broke his cell while he was talking to Nandini.
"You fell for the wrong girl Pratham…she never loved you…she is double timing you with this other guy and……"
"Now now angel…that's getting a bit too much! Don't you dare say anything against her…I know that you don't want to fall in love and not get married and everything but you know how much I awaited for the right girl…and now I know Nandini is the girl and that's the important thing I needed to tell you!" he explained.
"I knew you would say all these stuffs you fool! That's why I have the proof with me…just wait here I'll be back in a sec." Saying so she rushed out of Pratham's room and ran to her room to get her cell. And then again she rushed back to Pratham's room.
Giving him the cell she told her to check on the last video she took. Snatching the cell away from her he quickly went to the 'video clips' folder and selected the last video in there.
His eyes widened and tears threatening to come out. Tears of pain and anguish welled up in his eyes! The girl he finally thought was made for her was making out with this other white guy. What could be more painful than this!
He closed his eyes to find tears rolling down his eyes. He looked at his angel, who was crying too seeing him cry. He hugged her tight and she hugged him back, letting him cry his heart out coz she knew how it felt to be getting ditched like this. Crying would make him feel better. This was after all his first heartbreak, and first times are always the more painful ones.
He really did fall for her after all. Good that I found out beforehand, she thought. Or else Pratham would have been devastated if he really fell deeply in love with her. Thinking so she went back to consoling her best friend and companion, the friend who was dearer to her more than anything in this world.
HIGHLIGHTS: Pratham going back to being the player.😛😉
