Part 3

As Karan keeps walking with the help of Preeta's support, he wonders why Preeta is more concerned about him when she is hurt herself. And had he paid more attention to controlling his car when it was hit, they wouldn't be in this situation right now. He then pauses to think why he isn't blaming Preeta for what happened, as she started arguing with him, and if she wasn't there with him in the car then none of this would have happened. He gets angry.

Karan: Yeh sab tumhari vajah se hua hai...

Preeta: Kya?

Karan: Ha, na hi tum mujhse jhagadti aur na hi hum car rokte, aur nahi accident hota.

Preeta gets emotional that Karan blames her for the accident. She is hurt by his words. But doesn't want to argue as she only wants him to get better.

Preeta: Achcha theek hai, sab meri hi wajah se hua hai, I'm sorry.

Karan: Arre yaar...

As a tear rolls down her cheek, Karan wonders why she's getting upset instead of fighting back with him.

Karan: Tum theek to ho? Kahi dimaag par chot to nahi lagi?

Preeta: Tum kitni baar mujhe same question puchoge? Maine kaha na I'm completely fine.

Karan: Ha, tumne kaha aur maine maan liya. Jaise ki tumhara haath, its still bleeding, right? Woh mujhe is angle se dikhayi nahi de raha, but I'm pretty sure it is.

Preeta: Maine kaha na, choti si chot hai, nothing to worry.

Karan: Tum sach main mental case ho...

Preeta: Ab isme mental hone ki baat kahan se aa gayi? Khair chodo...

Karan: Wow, so for the first time tumhare paas jhagadne ke liye words nahi hai...

Preeta: Aisi baat nahi hai...

Karan: Nahi hai? Mujhe pata tha... Toh phir bolo, jitna jhagadna hai jhagdo na...

Preeta: Mujhe tumse koi jhagdna nahi karna, okay? I'm just thankful to God that you're okay aur inke ghar pahunchte hi we will call for help.

She looks at him with concern in her eyes and Ranjhana naino ke teer chal gaye, Sajna saason se dil sil gaye' plays in background. He looks into her eyes and wonders why he sees so much pain and no anger. They both remain quiet for a while as he tries to think what changed during the accident.

All of a sudden Preeta notices Karan is unable to walk and is feeling dizzy, she stops walking and tells the woodsman Karan is too weak. He says his house is close by, he asks Preeta to make him sit and he will go fetch water. Preeta agrees and helps Karan sit on a large stone. She kneels down and starts to wipe away his beads of sweat with her hand. She looks at his face and starts to get lost in his thoughts, Beliya, kya hua jo dil kho gaya' plays in background. He looks at her and holds her hand. She realizes she's getting lost in thoughts again and pulls her hand away.

Karan: Miss Mental...

Preeta: Shh...

She puts her finger on his lips so that he can't speak another word.

Preeta: Waise hi bol kar itni energy waste kar chuke ho, halat dekh rahe ho apni, ab chup chaap baithe raho.

He stares at her as wind blows her hair. She feels bad for being rude to him.

Preeta: Woh... Sorry... I didn't mean to...

She removes her finger away and looks at his face.

Karan: Kuch to pakka hua hai, tum kuch ajeeb behave kar rahi ho...

Preeta: Kya? Nahi to...

Preeta turns away from him as she doesn't want to look into his eyes and lie. She knows something is changing within her and she's finding it hard to stop showing the added concern for him. She can't explain to him what she's feeling and the thousands of questions she has in her heart and her mind. Her mind keeps telling her to focus on getting Karan to a hospital, and her heart just wants to take care of him, look after him, till he is fit and fine.

Karan: Preeta...

Preeta gets worried if anything happened to Karan, look back and rushes back to sit beside Karan.

Preeta: Ha... are you okay?

Karan: Woh...

The woodsman returns with a bigger cart and water in a pot. He offers water to both, and then tells Preeta that they can take Karan back in the cart. Preeta agrees and thanks him. They both support Karan and lift him to the cart.

As the cart topsy-turvies along the windy path, Karan shrieks in pain as his leg is jolted. Preeta hold his hand and assures him he will be fine.

Preeta: Bas, who raha ghar, hum pahuch hi gaye hai.

They reach the woodsman's house and as they help Karan get off the cart and onto an improvised bed, the woodsman's wife serves food for them to eat. They are humbled by their generosity. Preeta says she first needs to make a call to her sister and asks the woodsman for his address. She first calls for an ambulance first and then as she is about to dial Shristi's no, the mobile is out of credit. The woodsman says he will need to take his phone to a shop which is an hour away. Preeta asks him to not worry, that she's already called for an ambulance. The woodsman's wife insists she eat something as her husband won't eat without him.

Preeta is taken aback when she hears Karan being referred to as her husband.

Preeta: Nahi... woh...

She can't say in so many words that he is not her husband. She wonders why she is at loss of words in stating such a simple fact that they're just friends? Or are they even friends?

She goes to Karan and scolds him.

Preeta: Tumne khana kyu nahi khaya?

Karan: Dekha, aa gayi na track par, psycho. Mujhe itni chot lagi hai aur tum ho ki mujh pe chilla rahi ho. Ek toh maine achche manners ko dhyaan main rakhte hue, tumhara wait kiya, aur tum ho ki...

Preeta: Achcha theek hai, I'm sorry...

Karan: Arre, tumhare sorry sun sun kar main pagal ho jaaunga. Yaar jab bhi tum sorry bolti ho tab lagta hai kuch ajeeb ho raha hai. Tum na aise hi angry mode main raha karo.

Preeta thinks to herself she can never be angry with him. Yes, when he does foolish things, doesn't look after himself, she can scold him, but that's where it all ends, as she wouldn't want anything to happen to him.

Karan: Arre, kahan kho gayi, ab khana kha le?

Preeta: Uh... Ha...

Preeta picks up a plate of food and starts to feed him.

Karan: Main kha lunga...

Preeta: Nahi, main kar deti hu...

Karan: Maine kaha na...

Preeta: Har baat pe argue karna zaroori hai... Dekhte nahi kitni chot lagi hai...

Karan: Theek hai meri Ma...

Karan then opens his mouth up wide, waiting for her to put food in. She gives him one bite and smiles. He smiles back and then as she prepares another bite, he lifts her hand and makes her eat the next bite. She smiles again and he does too.

The woodsman's wife is happy to see them feeding one another and tells the woodsman that husband-wife love each other so much. Karan hears this and is surprised.

Karan: Kya? Humari shaadi kab hui?

Preeta nods.

Karan: Dekha, hum koi miya-biwi nahi hai.

Preeta looks at the woodsman's wife and she starts to say something and she nods, to signal not to say anything else. She realizes that she shouldn't speak more than required so she offers to bring them water. As she goes, Preeta follows her and thanks her. She tells Preeta that she can see immense love for him in her eyes. Preeta is surprised to hear this. She is confused by what the woodsman's wife has just told her. She wants to believe that she experienced love for the first time ever in her life, but how can she be sure? It might only be the fact that they came so close to dying and he was with her all the way, that made her change the way she thought about him. That changed the way she felt concerned about him. She tries to shrug off the feeling of trying to figure things out, and makes herself believe that Karan can never like someone like her. And that makes her very sad.

She walks back to Karan with a glass of water, not realizing that her limp is apparently visible to everyone.

Karan: Tumhe pairon par bhi chot lagi hai?

Preeta: Nahi toh... I'm fine.

Karan: Ha, dikh raha hai, "I'm fine" ...

He imitates her and makes her sit down. Ab tum yaha se bilkul nahi hilogi. And eat your food.

Preeta: Lekin tumne toh khaya nahi...

Karan: Main us dusri plate so kha lunga. You eat.

Preeta feels that Karan is starting to get annoyed with her strange behaviors. She tells herself to be normal and not let his thoughts cloud her judgement from what reality is.

Karan: Arre, kya hua? Phir kaha kho gayi?

Karan asks as she stares into thin air with the plate of food in her hands. She snaps out of her thoughts and starts to eat slowly. He wonders if she's really gone mad or if the accident has been too much to handle for her.

She wonders if she will ever be able to stop thinking about him or get affected by what he says. The woodsman's wife's words keep playing back in her ears, and she wonders if this is what love is all about. But how can she even think of loving a man who is so different to her? How can she be with someone who will never choose someone like her?

The woodsman interrupts them and asks if they need something else as he needs to get more wood for the day. Preeta assures him that they will be fine as soon as the ambulance arrives and that she is confident that the ambulance will arrive early as Karan is a star cricketer.

Karan is happy to hear Preeta praising him. The woodsman leaves and Preeta goes to sit beside Karan.

Karan: Thank you...

Preeta: Thank you kis liye?

Karan: Life main pehli baar tumhe meri tareef karte hue suna...

Preeta: Tareef?

Karan: Ha, ab yeh mat kehna ki aise he keh diya, vagerah vagerah...

Preeta: Nahi, main aise kyun kahungi, jab tum top cricketer ho, toh phir main kuch aur kaise keh sakti hu.

She looks at him and smiles. He looks surprised. She thinks of covering up her mushiness with a cheeky response.

Preeta: Ha, who alag baat hai ki tum mujhse cricket main nahi jeet paye...

They both look at one another, pause for a moment and then burst into laughter together.
