The Desperate bug's spreading its wings! | |||||||
Overworked housewives; frustrated single moms; sexy neighbours, and a general disregard for legally sanctioned sex - these are just a few things that make Desperate Housewives a rage among Indian audiences. And what you want is what you get - producers across tellydom are raring to take a go at DH, and sooner than later, we are going to see a desi version of the show on Indian screens! One thing that's worth betting on is the cast that'll bring the desi version to life. We asked some of our popular producers to name their dream team! None of the producers we spoke to, hesitated while naming their team - a clear indication that they had already given the concept some thought! A rather interesting thing that came out of this exercise is that all of them had a team very different from one another!
"I just love the show, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to make it," laughs Shrishti Arya, who has made path breaking serials like Lipstick. She comes up with her team in a jiffy. "I would like to see Shweta (Tiwari), Gurdeep (Kohli), Juhi(Parmar) and Gauri (Pradhan)
doing something like this. DH is a mind blowing show and if I can convince these actors to do it, it will be a casting coup of sorts. You know, who I am going to cast as the men - men who are settled in real life! Like Hiten (Tejwani), Ronit(Roy) and Hussain!"😉 grins Rajesh. Desperate for sex…and perhaps for a little bit of peace; this is what's driving these women in Wisteria Lane. Producer of serials like Tara, Raman Kumar feels that what is going to work in this country is a 'clever adaptation' of the show. "My version of DH will be a representation of my Tara girls 20 years down the lane. Now,they are 40, living in metrosexual surroundings.
I will cast girls like Navneet Nishan, Achint (Kaur), Sandhya (Mridul) and Shonali (Malhotra) Sonii and maybe Ratna Pathak Shah - they are all strong women and they will definitely do justice to the roles," says Raman. So what's he going to name his venture, we ask - "I don't know what I am going to name my show, but I can tell you I am not going to name it Biwi oh Biwi!" says Raman, breaking out into peels of laughter. Meanwhile, it is common knowledge that Vinta Nanda is developing a show on the lines of DH and if our sources are true, so is Ekta Kapoor. Last heard, even Manish Goswami has been approached and is planning a show that's a spin-off of this award winning show! A little birdie tells us that top channels have already had meetings with several producers to develop a show based on DH even before the original series went on air on Star World! Only time will tell who manages to do it first, and most importantly, do it right! |
