The dream sequence

Like us, TV stars too dreamt of a different life at some time. So many of these dreams remained unfulfilled

MANDIRA BEDI
Mandira believes a woman investment banker is very sexy. Hailing from a family of IIM graduates and Malabar Hill offices, following them to the corporate world was her ultimate dream. "But somewhere along the line, I realised I don't have the intellect or the ability for it. I did what I could, gave many tests, but couldn't make the cut anywhere," says Mandira. When Shanti came her way, she gave herself a year's time on TV. It was then that she found her true calling with the camera. "Finance was just not my aptitude, I guess!" she laughs.

HUSSAIN KUWAJERWALA
He always fascinated by the idea of being a professional pilot. But he could never work on it. He never had imagined in his wild dreams that he would go for acting. And no, he doesn't want to look back. "Dreaming doesn't cost, so never stop dreaming," He advocates.

RENUKA SHAHANE
Renuka Shahane wanted to be a practicing psychologist and she completed her masters for it too. She was all set to do her doctorate when Aziz Mirza's Circus came her way. That's when Aziz convinced her to pursue acting. So what happened to the budding practising psychologist? Renuka smiles, "I'm anyway in an industry that is full of people who require psychological help so I'm there for them."

VARUN BADOLA
Being a Pilot, "flying high and having a bird's view" of the landscape sitting in the cockpit had been his dream for very long. He says, "I was never scared of heights." So how did he land up on TV? "To become a pilot, you have got to be a science student. But I was never good at science. I was an arts student. Besides, acting is something I could do," he replies.

He says he is pretty satisfied with what he's doing. Now he fulfils his dream of flying, but only as a passenger.

MINI MATHUR
From a veterinary surgeon to a literature professional to advertising to TV presenter! Phew, Mini Mathur has had quite a few dreams! She even got into a medical college. Ironically, her parents believed education would limit her potential. She pursued literature and became a model by chance. "At my advertising agency, when the model did not turn up for a shoot, I was the stand-by. The ad worked and that's how I started my television career," says Mini. She thus moved to Mumbai.

RAJSHRI THAKUR
Although she portrays the ideal bahu on screen, here comes the interesting bit of news about Rajshri Thakur aka Saloni. She never wanted to be the ideal bahu, all she wanted to be was an IPS officer. "I was always intrigued by the khaki. I wanted to join the police force," says Rajshri. But as she grew up her life events towed her to a different direction. In college, theatre drew her and before she knew she was bitten by the acting bug in a big way. She is happy with her profession today though, with women going gaga over her on-screen character Saloni. "I know my dream job is not possible now," she says.
