Have been regularly reading fans posting on SM as to what social message KKB or other TV shows are giving to society while they are boasting of notable ratings in TRP charts? I'm sharing few lines below from an entertainment portal that caught my attention which answers this.
To begin with, Indian television is meant to entertain and is not the epitome of empowerment. It's a business which aims to give its advertisers best possible ad slots. Over the years, the content in general has found solace in a corner cushioned with warped reality, regress and voyeuristic veneer. The scenario is a double edged sword.
Yes its pure business. And advertisers while quoting prices for their ad slots consider TRP's of a given prime time slot and the position of said channel in overall market share..😳We as diverse audience like to watch TV shows on different channels, different days and at different time slots for different reasons, but our botheration is rarely about revenues, market share or ad slot's, do we? it matters only to channels, advertisers and production houses and they are not some social reformers running not for profit organizations to be greatly bothered about what their shows are teaching to society and its repercussions.
But we as viewers can do much beyond switching channels, sharing feedback's and influencing TRP's. Complaints can be made against channels or shows but at the right time to appropriate agencies by quoting valid reasons. Found a good write-up on how to file complaints about TV shows and to whom and what would be considered in accordance with Indian law.
