Abhigya OS - No Matter What

Pragya could feel her heavy eyes forcing to close but she fought against it, laying on the floor she uttered his name only as it came in a longing pained whisper Abhi'

Abhi yelled into the phone but there was no reply, all he had heard was a scream and then the line had gone dead.

"Damn it" Abhi yelled as he stopped the car on the side. Pragya phoned and had told him to meet her at a caf nearby but he hadn't been able to listen to what she was saying. Her scream alerted him that something had gone horribly wrong but he pushed away such thoughts and ran out of the car looking around the streets. Something told him she was close but where? He felt his heart hammering against his chest as he ran asking people if they had seen Pragya but no one had.

Abhi came to a stop breathless. What had happened to her? Where was she? He had no answers, all he knew that the scream had been hers and it could only mean one thing, but he didn't want it to be true, it couldn't be.

Abhi brushed his hand through his hair in frustration and threw the phone to the floor.

"Pragya" He shouted, running. People looked at him but he ignored them. He needed to find her.

He slowed down as he saw people crowded around something on the floor. Who was it? Abhi slowly walked over feeling his heart sinking as he licked his dry lips. Was it her? Abhi pushed to the front of the crowd his heart sinking by the minute. His hands shook as he turned the body to face him and the sight to his horror was Pragya lying lifelessly on the floor, her head bleeding, and her body wounded.

Abhi felt his mouth go dry, his whole body felt numb. He didn't know how to react. He sat there frozen for a few seconds before clasping her to his chest.

"Fuggy, fuggy, get up" He patted her pale face but all she managed to say was his name. She opened her eyes with great difficulty.

"I - Tan - aap - bacha" She uttered but no sentence formed.

Abhi wrapped her dupatta around her trying to stop the blood and picked her up in his arms. He ran to the street but no cars seemed to be around and even if there were a few they didn't stop. Abhi screamed at people helplessly but no one listened.

"Fuggy, don't worry, you will be fine" He looked down at her but her eyes were now closed and her head fell backwards. Abhi ran confused, the view was blurred as tears formed in his eyes, and he was helpless. But he knew this was no time to sit and cry, he needed to get her to the hospital quickly.

Abhi managed to stop a car and the man was willing to ride them to the hospital and Abhi didn't waste any time. He laid Pragya in the back and patted her cheek trying to get her to wake up but all in vain. She wasn't opening her eyes or reacting to any of his words to her. Abhi wiped his tears furiously checking her pulse which was still going and he felt some hope rise again.

She will be fine' Abhi told himself over and over. She is my fuggy, she never gives up. She will be fine'

The car came to a halt and he rushed her into the hospital.

Abhi sat outside the operation theatre staring into the distance. He took a deep breath realising what had just happened. Pragya was inside fighting for her life. He didn't know whether to phone the families and for the time being decided against it. He knew he should tell them but he wanted to be with Pragya alone. He needed to make sure she was okay.

Abhi closed his eyes which shed no more tears. He was too shocked still to think about anything but her wellbeing. He felt numb and lost not having her to tell him all would be okay; after all he had always been so used to it. Abhi remembered her words from when he had been shot, how she had stood before him trying to protect him. Remembering the incident his eyes shot open.

After an hour of waiting and restlessness the doctor came out informing him she was out of danger but she had experienced a deep cut on her head and had broken her leg which meant she wouldn't be able to walk for some time and needed complete bed rest.

Abhi sighed in relief, as if his breath was finally back. Abhi thanked the doctor and he was allowed to meet Pragya.

Abhi opened the door to see her lying on the bed with a bandage around her head looking pale. Her leg was in plaster but other than that he was glad to have her back with him. He tried to sit down next to her without letting her wake up or realise but as soon he sat down and held her hand her eyes opened even though she was in a weak state. She tried to get up but Abhi ushered her to stay.

Abhi sat down and seeing her like that brought back the tears, somewhat sad but partly happy too.

"Why are you crying?" She asked and tried to reach him to wipe his tears but couldn't.

"Are you joking? What if something had happened to you?" Abhi asked horrified.

"Nothing would happen to me, and even if it had I would have been happy to die in your arms-"

Abhi put his finger to her lips.

"Shut up Fuggy, don't say that ever again, why don't you understand? How will I ever learn to live without you? Today I saved you but why don't you understand I can't let you go ever, and you want me to get married to someone else, whom I can't keep happy no matter what? I refuse to marry anyone, I don't care what you say, I am not going to leave your side"

Pragya looked up at him with a smile and tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry" She whispered.

"Hey don't cry fuggy" Abhi wiped her tears. "Why are you sorry?"

"For hurting you and our families so much, for pushing you away from me, it was all wrong and I was such a fool."

"What, why? Fuggy tell me what happened?"

"I went to meet Tanu and I heard her on the phone to someone and you know what she was saying? The child isn't yours, it's of someone else"

"What? Really? Is it true?" Abhi asked happily, he was shocked but this was the best news he had heard in a long time.

"Yes and then I fainted and when I got up I left. I wanted to meet you but then this accident happened" She told him.

Abhi cupped her face in his hands. "Fuggy, what happened was the past, but promise you will never do that again, in fact you know what you never stick to promises, I'm going to have to be your bodyguard twenty four seven."

Pragya laughed at him and held onto his hand tightly.

"Fuggy promise me, you won't leave me again, no matter what?"

"I won't, no matter what"

Abhi leant towards her and kissed her cheek and held her gently, he was never going to leave her side.
