Nikhil and Shabbo worked together in Shabir's first major show Kahin Toh Hoga. That's how they know each other.

Even there Nikhil played a negative character but that was more of a pappu negative.

His character name was 'Rahul'. After Piyush's death he enters as the guy whose is already married but about to get married to Kashish for his greedy reasons. But Sujal stops the wedding/engagement.
