Ashutosh walked into his father's room and closed the door...
"Kya hua beta"
"Baba...answer me truthfully...for once in your life...please"
"Kaho...why would I lie to you my son?"
"That you know better...now please tell me...when I was in Mumbai with Ma...did a girl called Nidhi Verma come looking for me?"
"Why are you asking this?"
"Tell me yes or no"
"Yes"
"...And what did you tell her?"
"I told her to forget you"
"Was that all?"
"Did you meet her?"
"Yes...now please tell me what did you tell her"
" She must have told you..why should I waste words now...
All that I have to tell you is that I did what I did in order to protect your interests...I am proud of what I have done...you are who you are now because of my lies...you did FRCS and became a great surgeon because of my deception...you are married to Radhika because of my subterfuge..what wrong did I do?..the entire medical community in India looks at you with respect...would you have achieved all that if I hadn't resorted to chicanery? your career would have been nowhere...you would have continued to slog in that petty Jai hind hospital..where you were working when you met her..
..you would have married that characterless girl and fathered her kids...that's all...I was worried about your future as well as my reputation...we are brahmins..and that girl was a kayasth...chalo woh bhi chaltha hai...par uska character? what kind of girl gets involved in pre-marital relationships?.. she was a gold digger...daughter of a penniless man...she would have drained you dry...
Don't ever meet that s**t again...and don't let Radhika know about this...she has given you everything that you could have ever have asked for..and I don't want any bitterness to creep in your marriage"
"You have called Nidhi names Baba...then why are you sparing me...if she had committed a crime then I was her accomplice...If she is morally fallen then so am I..."
"There are different rules for men and women...for rich and poor...now stop this homily and go back to your room...forget about that slattern...don't ruin your marriage for her...I won't watch silently..let me tell you that"
"I don't want sermons on marriage from you Baba...I know how much you valued yours...you were busy here in Lucknow when Ma was breathing her last. I am way better than you..and please don't worry about me re-igniting my old romance...there is nothing left...moreover,that "slattern" has asked me not to meet her again"
"Ashutosh, you will understand me only after you step into my shoes... when Kanishk grows up"
Ashutosh opened the door and walked off with a scornful expression
"Thank God Radhika won't be home tonite" Ashutosh thought...
Let sleeping dogs lie...Gadhe murde nahi ukhadne chahiye...The English and the Indians agreed on one thing at least.. that some things were best forgotten. The wisdom of these words were lost on Ashutosh...
Nidhi had asked him not to contact him...but his heart just refused to listen to his mind...and after 10 days of continuous battle, his heart won...and he took a rash step...he hired a private investigator to find out Nidhi's whereabouts...
What he found out turned his world upside down...Nidhi had told the world that she was a widow...she had a daughter called Nirali studying in 9th standard.
What could that mean??? Nidhi had told him that she was unmarried...Nirali was in 9th..so was she adopted or Nidhi's biological daughter...did she keep his child? was that why she moved from Delhi...did she lie to the world that she was widow..so that her daughter could grow up free from stigma...If Nirali was in 9 th then she must have been born in 1996-1997...most likely conceived in 1996...he was in a relationship with Nidhi at that time...he needed answers...he would meet Nidhi...
One year later-
Radhika was in a pensive mood...she had already scolded Kanishk thrice that morning ...something that she seldom did...
Alok put it down to fatigue
"Radhika, take some rest beta...you are overworked"
Radhika didn't answer his question...instead she looked thoughtful and asked "Baba...unhone aapse kya kaha? ki woh dilli ja rahe hai"
"Haan...kuch kaam tha usse wahan..kyun..tumse kuch nahi kaha kya usne?"
"nahin..aisi baat nahin hai...main apne kamre mein jaati hoon"
Alok sensed that something was wrong but felt that this wasn't the right time to press Radhika further... So why did she question him about Ashu's Delhi trip...wasn't he there?
Radhika laid in her room...her thoughts were centered on her husband...a man whom she trusted blindly...a man in whom her ego rested...
One year ago her father's aides had told her that Ashutosh had hired a private investigator to trace a woman called Nidhi Verma...that news didn't alarm her like it should have...she didn't suspect a thing...she thought that maybe Nidhi was an absconding ex-employee or a long lost relative...such was her faith in Ashutosh ( it was not 100% faith though...a part of her complacency was also due to the fact that her father derided her husband's family as thande khoon wale'..she had blindly bought her father's assumption)...never did she imagine that Nidhi was a woman he had seen somewhere and taken a fancy to ...whom he was desperate to meet...
Radhika had gotten busy with electioneering..and so did her father's aides...the matter died down there...only to hit her with full force a week back...
she had learnt that Ashutosh was now in the habit of giving his driver off whenever he went on one of his trips'...he preferred to drive the car himself...and these trips' were becoming quite frequent..
She was puzzled and wanted to speak to Ashutosh but Lallan advised her against it...He asked Ashutosh's driver to inform his aides whenever Ashutosh gave him an off...and then he sent a man to tail Ashutosh whenever he went on a trip...
It was revealed that the destination of all those trips were the same- a house in Kanpur. There was another woman in Ashutosh's life...Nidhi Verma- mother of a 15 year old girl..a widow. Lallan was wild with rage but Radhika urged him to be quiet...brute force wouldn't work here...she would resolve the matter herself...(Bumping off Nidhi wouldn't work..nor would buying her do the trick...It was Ashutosh who needs to be dealt with and she would deal with him in her own style)... Lallan relented.
Radhika was at her wit's end as to how to resolve the matter and win back her husband...she couldn't accept the fact that her husband had found someone else...and that someone else' was much elder to her...a mother of a 15 year old daughter...she would have thought that the woman was pimping out her daughter if her aides had not told her that Ashutosh's trysts take place whenever the girl was at school...so what does that woman have that she doesn't...?She had seen pictures of them together...that woman was no beauty queen...nor was she youthful looking...and yet her husband was head over heels in love with her...why? She couldn't give up Ashutosh...he was her's and her's alone...she couldn't accept defeat so easily neither at the hustings nor at home.
Radhika seethed in rage..she would have strangled Nidhi if she were in front of her...but she knew better than to get her killed...her husband was a man who hated bloodshed, he would shun her forever if she dirties her hand with blood...and if the dead woman were his mistress then he will never forgive her..he would hate her and leave her...he might even extract vengeance...and she would lose him forever...No,.she won't let that eventuality happen...Radhika reaffirmed her decision against harming Nidhi. What did that wh**e' have that she didn't have? Education...only education?
Radhika opens her cupboard and takes out a magazine. It was a year old edition of India today', a part of the special editions it printed on U.P state assembly elections. The cover story was on emerging youth leaders of U.P. Needless to say she was also featured in it. Though it was not the first time she was covered in the press...she had been written about umpteen number of times- though mostly in local press..and sparingly in the national (during election times)...but this article held a special place in her heart...
Though it started off by telling the readers that she was the daughter of Avadh Strongman Lallan Trivedi, it also went on to add that she was married to acclaimed neurosurgeon Dr.Ashutosh Tripathi'. That one description gave her immense happiness...it was proof that her husband had grown big...really big..in a world that was quite different from the one she inhabited. The very fact that a national magazine thought it fit to mention his name in a political article was a vindication of it...but the best part of it was that it had printed his name alongside hers...not that her relationship required any confirmation from the press..yet it felt good. It gave her a feeling that her achievements were equal to his..the education gap notwithstanding.
Radhika was proud that she was Lallan's daughter but she was equally proud of the fact that her husband was a celebrated surgeon. Even leaders from the opposition had consulted him for their troubles (this fact had amused Lallan..he had remarked- even if I crack those rat's skulls, they'll rush to my own son-in-law for treatment').
Ashutosh was her link to much wider world...a world where knowledge was respected. Though Radhika did pretend to be comfortable...her lack of education did give her a complex when she saw her husband discuss cases with colleagues-- esp with female ones. She couldn't let him go...he meant a lot to her..both her love and her ego were satiated by him. She couldn't lose him to another woman..not as long as she was alive.
A week later-
men's libido plus she believed that the Tripathi's had thanda khoon')... it sent the bells ringing now.
Radhika now realised that Ashutosh's libido was intact... it was just that it was directed at someone else now...Ashutosh was a red-blooded male and was showing his vitality to his mistress... someone else was stealing what was rightfully hers...her territory was being impinged by a lowly female...The situation called for direct action...and Radhika did just that.
She had got IUD removed without Ashutosh's knowledge and planned to bind him further to her by having another baby...that would send a strong signal to her rival too...wouldn't it?...and then she would send her men to offer that woman' a large sum of money in return for staying away from her husband...cheap women like her would gladly agree if the sum was huge enough. Ashutosh would be hurt by the abrupt end of the illicit relationship...but then she could make use of the opportunity to get closer to him...distract him with another child...and then ensure that he doesn't keep another mistress...None of these grand plans would work unless Ashutosh got intimate with her.
Ashutosh stuck to Kanishk right from the moment he entered the house to the time that kid went to bed...and after that he would shower attention to books... it was as if his wife didn't exist...
Then one fine day, Radhika prepared the ground for an all out seduction attempt...Alok was at his farmhouse in Barabanki, she sent an unwilling Kanishk to her parent's place and asked the servants to retire early.
Ashutosh arrived home and found Radhika wearing a sheer persian-blue saree (Ashu's fave colour) and was taken aback as she changed into the lacy black satin nightgown that he had bought for her from Paris...She had applied his favourite shade of lipstick -coral red and doused herself in perfume that he had previously fancied-cafe rose.
Ashutosh felt genuinely sad for Radhika..it must have taken a lot to seduce him like that..it went against her character..she had never done it before...While initially her inhibitions prevented her from doing it, later it was her ego..she never made the first move.. Whatever doubts Ashutosh had about Radhika and Chandrabhan now went flying out of the window...Though he no longer loved her passionately, there was some residual affection and sense of obligation...that woman had studied his likes-dislikes very well...she had moulded herself to suit his taste and sensibilities till she discovered the intoxication of political power...and here she was.. armed with all the knowledge that she had acquired in the duration of marriage...demanding his attention. How could he deny her what she was intent on obtaining? He started thinking of ways.
"Radhika..main thaka hua hoon"
"Main apki thakaan mitane ke liye taiyaar hoon" Radhika swayed seductively.
"Mera sar dukh raha hai...I have a headache"
"Aur mera dil dukh raha hai" She winked at him "Main apke sar-dard ka ilaaj jaanthi hoon"
"Nahi...mera sar sach mein dukh raha hai" Ashutosh turned away from Radhika and spoke
"Toh teekh hai...araam keejiye...par yahaan..." Radhika tried turning Ashutosh and make his head rest on her chest which was now bereft of the flimsy lace that was covering it before.
Ashutosh winced...what had gotten into Radhika...was she disturbed at being ignored for quite some time...has her aggression entered bedroom too...so she now believes in obtaining pleasures of the conjugal bed by force?
Ashutosh prayed to Lord and asked him to make someone from hospital call him..but that call never arrived. Lord's representative on earth- Radhika had already called Dr.Ranganath and asked him NOT to DISTURB Dr.Ashutosh today.
Ashutosh was left with no option but to pay what was demanded from him. Radhika was happy with her success...she needed to keep trying till she got pregnant again. After that she would set other plans in motion ...and then Ashutosh would be all hers...Nobody gets away easily after messing with Radhika Tripathi.
At least it is not indefinite. Two months it said. But why? When Ajeeb Dastaan is on? Isn't that role more promising and better than this ridiculous one??

obsessive lover-That just isn't Harsh Chayya...This should be a lesson to other actors...save money and invest wisely...else you'll struggle hard later on...
Wonder how you plan to end this with one more update...
What are Ashutosh's thoughts amidst all this?? Why the secrecy? Because of his father? His wife? Nidhi herself?? Or he himself doesn't want the news to come out?He goes to meet Nidhi when his daughter goes to school. So does that mean he has no contact with his child at all??I know. Too many questions. And most painful... I won't be here to read your next update. I have to wait more than a week to get all the answers!!Very interesting read Vidisha.
All wise people discussing here...😊
