Mangalsutra

In S1, we saw that Sonakshi wore sindoor and her mangalsutra after marriage. For me personally, her mangalsutra was extremely simple and elegant. Dev didn't particularly need her to wear the mangalsutra, but I think that he liked that she followed the tradition. HOWEVER, he did not tell her that she needed to wear it a certain way, or flaunt it. It was always HER choice to wear the indications of marriage. That's where the distinction comes in.

In S2, Dev gifted her sindoor and a mangalsutra. However, this time, he needed and wanted her to wear it. This time, however, instead of being elegant, the pendant is showy and a little gaudy (my POV!). Even this time, she has no problem wearing the mangalsutra, but I think she's a little puzzled as to why he is so insistent that she show her mangalsutra off to the world.

I think the distinction comes in to how the mangalsutra and sindoor was gifted and why it was gifted. In S1, it was a symbol of their love to them, and in S2, it is a symbol of their love to show the world. For me personally, I didn't find the scene where Dev gifted Sona the sindoor and the mangalsutra to be as romantic as I found their wedding. This shows Dev's evolution as a character. Although he's always been extremely possessive of Sona, I think that now he's even more afraid of losing her, since he already has lost her once. And I completely understand where both of them are coming from regarding their perspectives on each other's actions. Both of them love each other a lot, and I think that that love is going to help them patch up.
