Initially when the show started, it was supposed to be story about balancing relationships once a guy gets married. How he has to juggle between two women in his life - mother and wife. I was hoping that the CV's will direct the story in that direction - How in reality one person cannot be right all the time and little sacrifices each one makes to keep relationships moving smoothly. How each person has their own share of insecurities, shortcomings ,difference of opinions etc in day to day life and how the trio work towards it and support each other to make their relationships reach a successful point. How it is not just the responsibility of the DIL to make all sacrifices to fit in family but the family members to make adjustments as well.
But here the CV's have made Ishwari's character worst than a vamp. She lies and manipulates things with a straight face without any guilt. Sonakshi was showcased as a mere victim of kitchen politics and no self respect. Dev who is supposed to be the balancing factor between them is an idiot who cannot differentiate between right and wrong. A guy who is totally biased towards his mother and didn't think twice to leave his wife for her.
I wish the CV's had not gone that way and taken the positive approach so that in reality viewers can learn life lessons on not to give up on relationships easily and try them work out.
The story has now totally focused on Devaskhi as parents. Her good qualities, genuine personality and hardships faced were not appreciated but just because she is Soha's mother Dev mellowed down. But what if Sonakshi was still childless? Will Dev or Ishwari will still be wanting to have her back just recognizing her good side?
I posted this elsewhere to a beautiful remark by Tia. This might be relevant here too.
I think this story is about Dev and Ishwari and perhaps even a reflection of mother-son duo in society.
Their love was their down fall. Their faith in each others ability to read their mind, know their heart turned out to be an illusion.
This story highlights a saying in Tamil which translates to "Even if they are mother and child, their mouth and stomach are different".
While Ishwari being the mother had an upper hand showed some dominance and demand, Dev being the child showed petulance. The love and trust they had on each other turned them into fearful of each other's actions and motives and in general, insincere to each other.
To understand Sona, Dev and Ishwari didn't have to look too far, they only had to look at Neha and Elena. While Neha left her husband because he refused to put her above his mother's needs, Elena stayed on leaving her family at the time of their need. Given they haven't chosen one of Neha or Elena, Dev and Ishwari's inner character is baffling. They seem to want this, that and everything OR they don't quite know what they want!
I can only conclude, how they behave to everyone else is only a reflection of their relationship with each other. So, yes, Sona, the Boses, GKB, Vicky are all side characters.
This story isn't teaching you the good lesson you wan to learn but it is teaching all of us to respect the boundaries of our relationships. The moment you become overly reliant, you strangle that relationship. Then to keep it alive your only choice is insincerity. That is why Dev and Ishwari, Mamaji and Mami, Elena and Vicky, Dixit and Tripati relationships are still alive in the face of insincerity. They know where they stand but they don't know how to stop that vicious grip.
The Dixit and Bose relationship died when they refused to let an overdose of love or money between them. Both parties chose their self respect and self reliance instead!
Would Dev and Ishwari have accepted Sona if she didn't have a child? If they had chosen Neha or Elena, the answer is obvious. Without that, we can only put it to public test and my guess is the answer will be No!
