All these days I have been watching this show thinking the target audience are young women of today and show their self esteem and self respect and how they can stand above it all.

Today, I understand this show is a mirror to the society. Its a mirror to all those men who unashamedly claim they don't indulge in MIL and DIL arguments; mirror to all women already MILs or ready to be one who expect a bit much from their sons; mirror to all those mothers of daughters who think patience is a virtue and teaching tht to their daughter is their only purpose in life; daughters who dream big and get married and see dreams be squashed but think although educated, its tolerance and modesty and acceptance of all sorts of people, the soft skill, is the ultimate purpose in their life. This show is the ultimate mirror - 30 minutes of our/ our neighbour/ our acquaintance / someone's life in India.

Here's my take - if one MIL watching this show chances her outlook on her son and DIL's relationship; if one father decides to stand up and fight for his daughter at every step of the way; if one mother decides to teach her daughter patience and impatience all the same; if one son can learn to speak up and behave a bit more understanding to his wife; then this show is a success.

I wish people who watch this show go to bed and are able to introspect their own roles and behaviours.

Truth is bitter and showing the mirror to someone isn't going to make you popular but I applaud the makers for sticking to reality (alongside a bit of drama) !!

Please comment. If you don't agree please feel free to tell me a bit softly :-)

Definitely a different way of looking at things

My only gripe is that this was marketed as a show which shows how two adults together handle the mothers insecurities ..so in essence a show where together was a tag line and positivity was what was supposed to be shown.

I even read that the makers said this was not a documentary but an entertainment so going by that premise I dont know how much holding the mirror concept applies here.

However, I do agree that in order for change to happen first there has to awareness and TV Shows can bring those changes like for example Aamir Khans Talk show . But in my opinion this show lacks social responsibility and seems to be quite regressive in nature.

Again this is just my opinion no offense meant

I completely agree with you. The show is a mirror to society and teaches a lot of lessons to many people. just as in proper learning, one needs the inclination to learn, without which, no learning can take place. As much as i analyze the show, i also analyze audience reaction on twitter and this forum. It is clear that there is a tendency to look at things from the perspective of one's own experience. This perspective can only be good for certain situations but not for all. The good thing about life is that there is no single prescription for seemingly similar situations.

i loved the episode today.. simply loved it.. i think the show is back on track.. only during the artificial baby track i felt disappointed, but not anymore.

Well if it is about this.. then ok but then they must show Sona standing up stronger against dev and family.

I completely agree with you. This show is not about preaching a specific lesson, and it's not assuring us that good always beats evil. It is showing us that every human being has varied and complex reactions to different situations, and that abstract moral standards are easy to speak about, but very difficult to stick to in real life. I think Sonakshi summed up the essence of the show when she explained to Dev why her brother was obese when she was the best nutritionist in town: the rules you apply to the rest of the world don't always work the same way with family, people you are emotionally invested in.

It's a show that makes you re-examine the parts of our society that we may take for granted as normal or unchangeable, and gently asks you to question why those assumptions came into existence. I for one am really enjoying that process!

Thanks for a great post! 😃

Such awesome discussions

Its sad but true our show does mirror the exact human behavior in different relations in our very society people may say they are different but are they really
most men out there treats their mothers with the utmost care respect and love but they also don't give the same quantity to their MIL yes they may respect their MIL but its never the same

women all over the world face the very problem in trying to be accepted by their MIL's doing everything they can and yet never really getting that acceptance

so yes I totally agree this show is a mirror of reality

Sometimes one needs to understand that its not only about black and white. Humans are indeed right or wrong and it depends on perspective majorly.
But yes they can come up with more practical solutions of these issues, which happen in reality.
