Parallelism is used in literature to convey messages. Antithesis is a kind of parallelism in which two opposite ideas are put together in parallel structures.

One of my favorite lines from A tale of two cities by Charles Dickens
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.-

I found Kuch Rang adopting the route of antithesis where opposite ideas are put together in a parallel structure. This I am basing it upon the building up of the characters in the show
Here are my thoughts:

Mothers
Asha, Easwari, GKB

Asha the mother character who seems perfectly balanced she imparts sound advice- to Sona , Saurabh and Bijoy and this creates a balance in their lives. Why is Asha balanced?. We do not know much of her family but what we know of her family now her husband is very supportive, Her MIL adores her and most of the time if not all take her side and her children respect and love her. Here the love is not reverence

Easwari the mother who though has 4 children openly shows her partiality to her first born child her son. Her background widowed at a young age , abject poverty driving her actions. I think Shaavi wrote that she sees Dev as her partner not in a sexual sense the sense of them being the adults in the family. She tends to keep Dev's love in leash probably because she is afraid of facing poverty again.

GKB a mother who pampers her only son to the point of raising him to be a worthless thug. Her motivaton is living a life of luxury so money and greed her motivating force to the extent of burning their home.

Fathers
Bijoy and Mamaji

Bijoy the brash character who calls a spade a spade , loves his children but deals with them differently Sona the pride, Saurabh though he loves him he is harsh on him but is balanced out by asha because he gives her the respect that she deserves.
Mamaji
Vicky Dad though he tries to correct him has failed to do so probably because he does not have the support of his wife and also because he always puts down his wife even if it in jest still disrespectful. He is Dev's dad by proxy always seems to give Dev advice with mixed messages so in essence not a very effective Dad

The young couples

Dev and Sona
Two responsible young adults who found love. Family is important to the both of them and that is why they sometimes come across as selfless. Their Love is strong so it sustains but they have to learn to be a little selfish and put their happiness sometimes above others a balance they have to learn

Vicky and Elena
The irresponsible children one pampered by his mother , another though has a proxy parents chose to follow the selfish route. Both put their happiness before others

Ranveer and Neha
Ranveer has his pride and Neha hers. One doesnot want to compromise his principles fo money other things money is the most impprtant thing in life. Both are selfish in their own way not willing to give up

The DIL
Sona , Elena and Neha
One who tries hard because family is important, the second does not try because she takes things for granted and the third quit trying because she doesnot want to compromise- Sona needs to let go sometimes, Neha needs to prioritize what she wants from Life and Elena needs to just grow up

The brothers
Vicky , Dev and Saurabh and Sona

The brothers Vicky and Dev do not have very much respect for each other but because Dev feels indebted to his mamaji he tolerates Vicky. Vicky on the other hand wants what Dev has without working for it.
Saurabh has had loses and does not seem to be as successful as his sister but there is no jealously in their relationship only love and respect

The MIL
Easwari, GKB, Dadi and Asha
Easwari the MIL tries to be a good MIL but fails because she sees Sona as her competition
GKB the MIL knows that if she treats her DIL badly her Son will walk and she does not want to lose her son
Dadi the MIL who loves and cherishes Asha .here the point to be noted is Bihoy seems to be her only child and a Son
Asha in turn learns from her MIL how to be a good MIL an is an understanding MIL to Dev

The SIL
Ranveer ,Aayan and Dev
One who had pride and refused to compromise and accept money another who is just marrying for money. And Dev who is learning how to be a good one

And now to the story of the Baby
At the start of the story it was shown that Neha did not want children probably because of her past. She married Ranveer but couldn't sustain because of the lack of luxuries.
Sona married Dev for love they want a baby but Sona cannot have one she has money but cannot have children

So by building all these parallelism in the story maybe all these subplots will converge and a beautiful story will emerge... so is our hope .

Even though some of us are frustrated by the recent dramatic depictions of the show we are still sticking with it because this show does have a story to tell, it is just sometimes not told in the way some of the audience would like it to be hence sarcastic or humorous posts

Thoughts welcome and sorry for the rambling post of a lot of things that all of you already know..

Happy Friday

Excellent post, Sabita. I always find your posts very thought provoking. They certainly stimulate my own thoughts.
Since I am a student of literature, I will start with that.

In literature, parallel tracks are showed for two reasons. One, two differentiate between good or bad, right or wrong etc. making it obvious which one is right or which one is good according to the author (I feel that is a cliched way to portray a story line or a character) and two, to let the viewers decide what is right, wrong or can't make up their mind between all shades of grey (Which, according to me, is a more interesting way to portray a story line or character because it makes you think as a reader/viewer).

Here, some parallel track was portrayed as obvious (like the difference in mothers) and some as subtle (like differences in the daughter-in-laws).

What I find here most interesting is the relationship dynamics and parallels between those characters.

Bose and Dixit's relationship dynamics were always obvious. But the dynamics of Dixit's were almost seemed painted with same brush. But the differences are coming out now. For that, while I wanted to slap Elena for being selfish and eloping, I am kinda thankful now.

It's even more obvious now since until now Sonakshi was the only daughter-in-law in Dixit household and Ishwari, the only mother-in-law.

Due to Vicky's attitude and/or Elena's the dynamics of son/daughter-in-law/mother-in-law's relationship will become more pronounced.

However, had Sonakshi stood up for herself when she first got married, she would not have ever been insulted by Radha. And now, since she is the mother-in-law of Elena, she can no longer even get back to her with smart jibes.

She has really dug the grave of her self-respect with her attitude.

What I am interested to see is if Ishwari's loving attitude only lasts until she believes Sonakshi to be pregnant or it continues when she finds out Sonakshi is not pregnant as well?

I am also interested to see whether Neha is in any mental state to see the differences in attitude between the two in-law relations and couple relations in her own home and analyse her own situation.

I am also interested to know what happened to Ranveer and his family? They appear to have fallen off the face of the Earth.

And I want to see whether Dev and Sonakshi take a page off Vicky and Elena's book and give their relationship the importance it deserves. Their marriage had been taking backseat to their family's numerous problems quite a while.

Excellent post! Very thought provoking. From your analysis I can see that each character has something to learn from the others. Through this one can see the contrasts the cvs are trying to show & hopefully it will all come together nicely. That's why most of us are hanging around to see this to the end even though it has been awfully disjointed for the past few episodes!

I agree with you here Tia. I like to have a bit of control on how I interpret what's happening rather than being told. You pick a great point here Sabita

What I find here most interesting is the relationship dynamics and parallels between those characters.

Bose and Dixit's relationship dynamics were always obvious. But the dynamics of Dixit's were almost seemed painted with same brush. But the differences are coming out now.

The differences were shown to us right from Day 1. That was always the backdrop.

For that, while I wanted to slap Elena for being selfish and eloping, I am kinda thankful now.

I am not sure Tia. For the viewer in me this isnt about Dixits and Boses. This is about a bahu who is a threat to the nice balance the dixit household always had. Mamiji isnt a Dixit in so many ways. even as a MIL to sonakshi, she was always loud and very open about her issues with her. Ishwari is hardly ever open about her insecurities with Sona.

Mamiji is a different MIL to Elena, because Elena is a very different bahu to Sona

They are gone. Dev got her a divorce and she is a permanent fixture in that house now. No planning for future - this is another parallel... Sona cares for her sibling. No one cares for Neha

And I want to see whether Dev and Sonakshi take a page off Vicky and Elena's book and give their relationship the importance it deserves. Their marriage had been taking backseat to their family's numerous problems quite a while.

umm... no... I dont want anyone to ever take a page off of that book. Their's is a selfish barsati naala type love. When are they sitting down and planning for future? the makers are trying to show us obvious differences as if we are idiots and need to see the differences depicted 15 times before we get it... Mr & Mrs Tripathi are unpleasant to watch

Wonderful and thought provoking post Sabitha 👏
I loved the Dickens quote. It is one of my favourites. Agree with you regarding the parallels. It has been there from day 1. The Boses and the Dixits couldn't be any more different. Now the change in dynamics when two Boses became Dixits is wonderful to watch. One trying to adapt to them and the second forcing them to adapt to her. One persons right and wrong may not be the same to the other. I for one is now eager to wait and watch the rest. 😃

Like you said, I also believe the foundation of the show is parallelism ...
Disfunctional Dixits and crazy yet functional Bose family are the foundation of this tale. And like you stressed, the similarities and contrasts between the various characters builds the story.

In all this, I see such similarity in Dev and Sona. Two responsible children to their respective parents that they invariably put their family before themselves. The best day of their existence was the day they met, albeit each didn't realize it at the time.

Two kindred spirits found each other.

Life isn't a bed of rose petals. If you like roses and decide to step into the rose garden to pick your favourite flower, you need to deal with the thorns too.

The thorns being Ishwari's insecurities. And they'll be dealt with in due time.

I would like to end with an another parallel we will see going forward.

Asha-Dadi share the most wonderful relationship, wherein Dadi supports her daughter-in-law more than her own son. And one day, that will the parallel that will be emulated by Ishwari-Sona-Dev. IShwari playfully or otherwise supporting Sona instead of Dev will be one scene we will definitely get to see.

Parallels are drawn int his show to show a path that should be/ would be better trodden for long lasting happiness.

Cheers to KRPKAB.

Wonderful post ⭐️ Have a great weekend!
