In the last few days I realized this show is about the different loves that exist between all relationships. A father and a daughter, a sister and a brother, parents who now worry about their kids lives. And finally love been two very different people, Sona who is far more evolved than Dev and Dev who has a long way to go. For the lead protagonist of this show Dev is a spineless character ( wow S that was harsh, and I really like Dev can you image what I say about people who I don't like!!!)
So why do I think they are so mismatched, well Sona is educated, logical and suljahuwa, while Dev is spineless, in his devotion to his mother he didn't invest in growing their mentality. This can be noted by the way Mami speaks, if someone speaks like that in front of me about someone else it is my duty to correct them ( I'm Indian happens on a daily basis) unfortunately, the wedding was all to realistic, I wish I could say it was melodrama for the show, it wasn't... Happens everyday in every culture and in every country. Yet it is up to the bride and the groom to manage their families and ensure that things don 't get out of hand. Which Dev did not do, he took the decisions and expected there to be no repercussions, he did not sit down with his mom and dadi bua and say you are going to have to respect my bride and her culure. That was crazy!!! If I was the brides father, I ask my daughter do you really want to marry this person and his family cause we can leave right now, then let Dev deal with the crazy people! But Dev is oblivious, which makes him the weakest character in the show.
I think for the first time ever I heard a father on Indian TV say, I won't change anything in your room, you are and will always be mine. That made my entire day. Sona and her family may be middle class but they are far more cultured than Dev, I'm sorry but following traditions is one thing disrespecting someone else's culture is quite the other, like Dev's family did time and time again, I loved that Bejoy pointed out that they had no right to treat them like the " ladki wale". And let me remind these fools that they have 3 daughters too. Unfortunately, I've see this happen far too many times in reality. Probably why I am ranting. The only thing that was over reacting was Elena when she grabbed Dadi's hand, no one disrespects elders like that, if you didn't know what she was doing you would move back not grab her hand that way.
The genuine mistake of the fish was handled well, and I also see why they had to show that Dev knew about Sona condition before hand, it will be awesome if he grows a spine when people start to taut her because let's face it they well. He was the one who made the decision that it just didn't matter. Also I find it hard to believe they would just get treatment, I mean he is a rich guy.
Finally, I have to say the character of Sona's ex fianc was far better suited to both Sona and her family, but I guess the heart wants what it wants. Now we will have to see if Dev can live up to Sona's sophistication...
Unfortunately, the cusp that this show is on is right where most shows die down in to melodrama instead of exploring the evolving spectrum of human emotion, but my fingers are crossed.
That was my very dramatic 2 cents
