Our forum has been buzzing since the Ish sleeping pills promo aired. An atmosphere of shock, disbelief, frustration, sorrow, prevailed and all thoughtful minds poured their hearts out. This show has the power to make us think like the characters in the show,feeling every emotion, whether joy or sorrow, along with them.
For me the promo seemed a bit too extreme as Ish has been portrayed as a strong, take charge kind of character. This act seemed distant from the expected story line, characterisation and the initial promos. As the show is refreshingly realistic, suicide attempt by a lead character, with whom many in the audience could corelate, felt unreal and dramatic.
But when I saw the segments, this was clearly a case of accidental overdose and not a desperate attempt to end life. What Ish wanted is to get some relief from the guilt of not being happy with her son's happiness. And when one sleeping pill didnt help, she took few more to get some peace and relief. Her act was nonetheless painful and disturbing, but she never intended to end her life.
And hence the dilemma when Dev would take the step of ending his love story, breaking Sona's heart and let go of his own true happiness. If it was indeed a suicide attempt, patch up after separation would be impossible as no son/daughter would continue any relationship which could result in their parents taking the extreme step. But this overdose will show how disturbed and guilt ridden Ishwari is. What was really needed was an honest and heartfelt conversation between mother and son to allay all fears and insecurities. But the Dixits have never been good at communicating their true feelings. So Dev will construe this accident as a suicide attempt and end his relationship with Sona instead of talking with Ishwari.
I hope this guilt ridden Ish could see the sacrifice his son and Sona has made for her happiness. It would be an emotional turmoil for all us.😭
