I loved Ranveer's surprise revelation today! At the end of the day, either Ranveer or Neha had to compromise their ideals, and I really admire Ranveer for stepping up and refusing to let his pride come in the way of his love. This is precisely what Neha needs in her life, someone who is willing to put her happiness above anything else, and love her unconditionally, even if she herself is not capable of returning that unconditional love yet.

Neha still has deep psychological wounds from the way she was treated growing up, and the way she is treated even now. Contrary to what Dev surmises, I don't think her bitterness comes from the experience of poverty itself, but rather from the lack of recognition for her constant effort towards the family's success. While Dev is lauded as a hero, Neha is constantly put into the position of a victim, and while Ishwari treats Dev like a mature adult Neha is not much more than a petulant child to her. Everyone keeps going on about how much she has "tolerated, ""suffered," and "sacrificed," but they never really applaud publicly how much she has achieved, how much she has learned, and how clued in she is to the smallest things that happen in her household -- I will never forget her ferociously waving that knife in Khatri's face! This is the same Neha who has single-handedly raised both her sisters to be humble, hard-working (she's still working on Nikki 😆), and confident young women, and has given them a lot of the balance that she and Dev never had.
.
But Dev, who knows so very little about the househld, gets the final call on important decisions regarding Ria and Nikki. He is not that much older than Neha, and this unequal, unfair distribution of authority really exposes Ishwari's inherent gender bias. Simply for being a man, and the breadwinner, Dev gets is annointed head of the household, and referred to as "bade" while Neha remains a "baccha." (How this negatively affected Dev is a matter for another post altogether!) It's no wonder that her heart is filled with bitterness towards the two of them, and harsh words are probably the only means she has to get them to listen to her and take her seriously. We see a completely different Neha with Ria and Nikki, calm, composed, without a bit of resentment... because they give her the respect she deserves.

I believe that Neha's true fear is not poverty itself, but yet again becoming someone who works tirelessly, all day-every day, with little recognition for what she does, and little respect for her opinions. I don't think she is fully congnizant of this distinction yet as drudgery and disrespect have been so closely associated in her life. Ishwari reinforces an unfair expectation every time she tells Neha to accept Ranveer exactly as he is, characterising her demands as selfish and therefore prioritising Ranveer's comfort and happiness over hers. That women should be ever-ready to sacrifice for the happiness of the man they love is the truth of Ishwari's generation, but Neha experiences have shaken that belief in her and she refused to give in to it. I am so glad Ranveer took the first step. I still maintain that she should have gone to him directly, instead of having Dev intervene surreptitiously, but I do also believe that she was afraid of losing him in a direct confrontation... what almost happened anyway. But in accepting this job and coming back even after their confrontation, Ranveer is not only fulfilling Neha's condition, but communicating to her that he values her vision for their future, and is willing to trust her with it.

Now that she doesn't have to fight tooth and nail for the respect and acknowledgment she craves, hopefully Neha will be able to see herself the way Ranveer sees her, as a strong, unshakeable force of nature, who can carry an entire household on her shoulders. It will take time, and probably won't be a smooth ride, because Neha is still very confused about her priorities and Ranveer is a proud, headstrong man, but this gesture paves the way for a relationship based on love and sympathy instead of calculation and pride.

Simply amazing post👏
It's such a true reality of life. The man (stereotypically the earner) usually gets to make the final decisions in our society and it reflects the way the Dixit family works. Dev isn't that much older, but because of his position, he gets the final say in the house which is very unfair considering Neha has done the same amount of effort as him. I hope Sona will help change these unfair rules of their family. And I hope Neha will live a truly happy life with Ranveer where they make the final decisions together and fairly. 😃

Thanks! And yes, I do believe the CVs have put a lot of thought into the development of Neha's character. Her reactions and the problems she faces have been consistent since the beginning of the story, slowly building up to this point. 😊

Thanks so much! 😃

And hear, hear! Ranveer and Neha fell for each other because of their common strength and independence, and I hope they learn to work with each other through the course of their relationship! Isn't it amazing that so many shows have stories about men with dark pasts and women sacrificing to "save" them from the darkness? Here we have the opposite... Neha is a rare and exciting Angry Young Woman! 😎

Sam! 🤗 I have been so busy, haven't even been able to respond to you on my last thread but I was hoping you'd write something on Neha and Ranveer and you did! 😃 Brilliantly done as always. Ranveer's change of heart is definitely going to help Neha alot. I agree with what you say about Neha's actual problem being a lack of respect and recognition from Ishwari/Dev over money/materialistic comforts. From what Neha has seen, inspite of her best efforts and sacrifices she is still mistreated by her nearest and dearest. Why then would she expect anything different from an outsider? I'm glad Ranveer and his family are hopefully going to change that for her. Ishwari and her gender bias.. Smh. What you said about Dev being treated as an adult while Neha as a petulant child.. Bang on! Dev being unable to grasp the real reason of Neha's grievances makes me wish so badly that Sona and Neha were closer.. If anyone can help Dev understand his sister, its Sona. She's the only one around him who manages to make him see things in a way he can never argue with... Even if it goes against what his Mother thinks or feels. I personally love the mix of emotions and irrefutable logic that Sona uses in such situations. 😆

Oh and I loved the point you made about Neha bringing up Riya and Nikki so well, sheltering them from the damage that she and Dev have suffered. It gives you some insight into Ishwari's failings as a Mother whereas Neha came out shining. I try not to judge Ishwari but her blinded love and bias towards Dev is really so damaging for the family.

What a messed up family uff! 😆 My only question about Ranveer's decision is that I wish he had said that he was willing to find a high-paying job, just not the one that's been offered to him. He's such a proud man that way. Kinda feel that might have been more healthy for their relationship and for Ranveer himself so that later on he doesn't feel that he killed his self-respect entirely. Or maybe the writers took this route to build a future conflict that can help depict Neha's growth as a character? I don't know. Just a thought anyway. It could have made a real impression on the Dixits, since they are so used to having their way. Though I suppose Neha is the bigger priority here and winning her trust was more important. Ranveer bending a bit now could eventually help Neha do the same in the future. Okay I think I might have answered the question myself. 😆

Might make a weekend post about the last two episodes. Thank you for this one.. Loved reading it as usual!

@Maham! So glad to see you! I've really missed having you around this week. 🤗

Yeah, you know me! 😉 I couldn't resist making a post about Neha and Ranveer's love story at such an important and unexpected juncture. I love where they are taking it, and how it mirrors the evolving relationship between Dev and Sona in such interesting ways. It's interesting that Sona is sort of silently teaching Dev about Neha through her own desires in their relationship. As we have discussed, she is much more interested in his confidence, his attention and his respect than she is in any material gifts he has to give her, though she enjoys those in their own place. It might take a while before Dev translates this to Neha, but I think it will slowly have an effect.

I would also love for Sona and Neha to have some more direct interactions, but I also sort of like that Sona isn't cast as the catch-all "savior" of the Dixit family, nor is she trying to be. Whatever good she has done has been mostly incidental, just by being herself. If she and Neha do have more interactions, I would love it to be just as friends, woman-to-woman. Maybe they can even grumble about their blindly idealistic men together. 😆

Uff, Ishwari's gender-bias has done so much damage beyond what anyone perceives. There was a scene a while back when Dev was confused about Natasha and went to ask Neha about what love meant, she was pouring her heart out and he was actually listening with deference. I remember thinking, this is a glimpse of the relationship these two siblings should and could have, but by making Dev feel responsible and Neha feel childish, Ishwari has driven a wedge between them that even she doesn't really know how to fix... and I am not even sure she wants to. As Neha has said, Ishwari doesn't even allow her own daughters to come between her and Dev.

I think you are bang on about where they are taking this thing with Ranveer. They seem to be building the foundation for a more gradual evolution of Neha and Ranveer's relationship, rather than a one-time solution, and I for one am so, so ready for it! If they go the direction we are predicting, I think it will parallel beautifully with Sona and Dev. While Dev will have to distance himself from Ishwari to let someone else into his life, Neha needs to learn to love and respect her mother again; Ishwari has made a lot of mistakes when it comes to Neha, but they clearly love each other and both of them would benefit from being able to enjoy their relationship.

Yes! Please do make a post if you can! It'll be really fun to discuss more over the weekend; there is so much to talk about! 😃

They seem to be building the foundation for a more gradual evolution of Neha and Ranveer's relationship, rather than a one-time solution, and I for one am so, so ready for it! That's a lovely parallel you pointed out. Would be beautiful to witness this on the show. Damn, I'm still worried about how the makers will explore the ultimate conflict.. It's so delicate!
