OS - DD vs KKR
"Yesterday's match was so AMAZING! Virat ne kya century maara, and that too a 105 not out in just 56 balls. I so want, RCB to win this year!" Nikki announced as she barged into the living room.
"Nah. Warner is doing a great job this season. Hyderabad will win. They were struggling in the beginning of the Season, but, ab toh, they are great. They are currently at the top of the table. Gujarat, Kolkata ko peeche chod diya. And, waise bhi, Bangalore has been struggling. RCB doesn't really have a chance." Riya countered, as she sat, having just returned from work.
Ishwari who was knitting, just shook her head, at this mindless argument.
"Ma. Just because you don't understand cricket, doesn't mean it is such a bad game!" Nikki noticed her mother's disinterest.
"Maine kab mana kiya?" Before she could continue, Sonakshi brought fruits for Ishwari, who took them to her room, tired of the noise her children were causing.
"So, what discussion is going on?" Sonakshi sat on the sofa, her work for the time being was done. She had already instructed Keechu about dinner.
"Virat Kohli is so hot right! The bearded, akdu, angry young man look suits him so much! I just love him! Main toh shaadi kar lungi us se." Nikki said, enthusiastically fangirling and gesticulating with her hands.
Sonakshi and Riya laughed.
"What nonsense is this, Nikki!" Dev had heard the end of Nikki's monologue.
"I think this is the time for you to study. Waise bhi, who is going to marry a monkey like you?" Dev said, jokingly, laughing when Nikki's mouth fell open at the gross insult.
"BHAI."
"Okay, Sorry. But, on a serious note, I think Delhi Daredevils will win the Trophy this year. Have you seen how good they have become? Till last year, for eight seasons running, they were consistently at the bottom of the table. Look at them this year!" Dev said.
"Not being at the bottom, does not really mean they'll win. Everyone's aware of their track record. Kolkata will take the Trophy home this year. They won it twice. And, they'll have a hat trick win this year. Delhi won't have a chance, Mr. Dixit. Amadeer Kolkata jeetbe!&" Sonakshi declared haughtily, giving Dev a sarcastic grin. [It means - "Hamari Kolkata hi jeetegi" in Bengali.]
"Forget the past, Ms. Bose, it doesn't matter what happened last year or the year before. We won the World Cup in 2011 but that didn't help us bring it back in last year. And for your extremely, kind information, Kolkata lost last year. It has to be Delhi this year. KKR is already stumbling." Dev defended.
"Bhai, why are you so intent on Delhi?" Riya asked, perceptively.
"Well, I happen to be a Delhiite. So unobvious isn't it, my supporting Delhi?" Dev questioned, sarcastically.
"My loyalties are always with KKR. And, I guarantee they will win this year. Waise bhi, we will know in like four hours, as to who is better. Your DD, or our KKR. Today its Delhi Daredevils against Kolkata Knight Riders." Sonakshi announced.
"Yes. I forgot. Let me switch on the TV." Nikki said.
"Ha! KKR won the toss and elected to bat. See! I told you!" Sonakshi turned to Dev and said in unconcealed glee.
"Aap toh aise khush ho rahi hain, jaise toss jeetne se match jeet jayenge." Dev wasn't perturbed.
"Well. It is a sign, isn't it?"
"What sign, Ms. Bose? Toss jeetne se match nahi jeeta jaata. India LOST the toss in 2011 but won the Cup. What do you have to say about that?"
"So what? Har baar, aap nahi jeet sakte, Mr. Dixit."
"I am going to get refreshed and eat something. I am really tired." Riya said.
"Ya, I have to complete my project. Anyways, I am not really interested in either Delhi or Kolkata. Bhai and Dr. Bose can carry on." Nikki told Riya.
And, they left together.
Dev and Sonakshi, though were completely oblivious to their departure, their sole interest in the match and their argument.
"Wicket!" Dev shouted, while Sonakshi looked wounded. "No!"
"Yes. Ms. Bose. It. Is. An. Out."
"No. See! The umpire is confused, he is going for a review!"
"Review or no review. It is a clear run out. Gambhir's bat isn't touching the crease. Hawe mein itna udna nahi chahiye tha, Ms. Bose." Dev said smugly, punning on his words.
"Toh, main hawe mein ud rahi thi?"
"Not at all. Bat hawe mein tha. See? It is an out. I told you. Unless you have your feet on the ground, you can't win anything." Dev said, with a vindictive glance.
"Toh kya hua? It's just one wicket. They have nine more players left. And, Gambhir did make 20 runs."
"20 runs, by an opener? Seriously? Ms. Bose, the Delhi batting line up is such, the guy who came in the ninth wicket, made 80 odd runs in 30 balls."
"SIX!"
"Four."
"15 runs off the over, Mr. Dixit. You are gone."
"A maiden over, Ms. Bose. 8 overs, and 40 runs, Ms. Bose. I am sure you don't want to stay."
"This year, Delhi is a like an invincible army. I wouldn't have believed it last year, or even in the beginning of this Season." Dev said.
"Dravid is an amazing coach, isn't he? He even coached the U-19 team. Well, they didn't win. But, they did really well. What a makeover, Delhi has got?" Sonakshi agreed with Dev.
Dev gave her an incredulous stare.
"What? I am speaking the truth. I support Kolkata. Aur, when in war, Mr. Dixit, never underestimate your opponent. It isn't bad to praise any team, irrespective of which team you support."
"Another six. Damn it! What the hell are these people doing?" Dev was agitated.
"Yoga kijiye, Mr. Dixit. Do meditation and yoga. You won't get so stressed. It's a Powerplay over, and they have just given 28 runs in the over." Sonakshi said, feigning solemnity.
Dev let out a heavy breath conveying his irritation.
After a while, "Arey! Itna upar uthane ki kya zaroorat hai! Disgusting! It was bound to be caught." Sonakshi stomped her foot down.
"Relax, Ms. Bose. I think you should do yoga. Itna tension, is not good for health." It was Dev's turn to have the upper hand.
"Well, they have posed a good total. Delhi doesn't really have a chance. 182 to win. Not easy, Mr. Dixit. Dekh lena."
"Are you forgetting, that aap hi bade bade dialogues maar rahi thi, Don't underestimate the opponent' wageira wageira, now, who is putting down the opposite team?"
"I am not putting them down. I am stating facts." Sonakshi said smugly, blinking her eyes repeatedly.
"Facts ke naam par, akad dikha rahi hain apna." Dev murmured to himself.
"Suna maine." Sonakshi was about to continue, when her phone rang. It was her Mom wondering where she was.
Sonakshi looked at her watch, "Holy! Its 9.30. I have to leave Mr. Dixit. We'll continue this argument tomorrow. This. Is. Not. Over." Saying so, Sonakshi rushed out, without bothering to hear Dev's reply.
"Of course it isn't, over, Ms. Arrogance and Akadwali Dr. Bose." Dev muttered, focusing on the match.
The End
Note - The matches do not follow the IPL time-table. The Delhi player making 80 odd runs is true, I cannot recollect which match though. To an engaging IPL Season 9! 👍🏼
After a while, "Ms. Bose. Can we complete this tomorrow? I really need to watch the match today. Delhi is playing."
"Who cares about Delhi, Mr. Dixit? Kolkata is going to win IPL this year, mind you." Sonakshi claimed.
"IPL isn't over yet. And, no team has qualified. You cannot predict so confidently. In fact, I'd call it overconfidence. Delhi is in good form this year."
