So I have a few thoughts on Sunaina Iād like to put acrossā¦
I understand that people are all angry at her - angry might be a softer word but Iād like to stick to angry⦠They say (and I was one of them till I processed the whole situation) that her character has been ruined. But has it really?
Iām not too sure. What we fail to understand is that a character shows different aspects in different situations - forget characters, even real people sometimes act āout of characterā when situations arise. Even the best of the characters have done things the fans could not even fathom. Until book 3 no one could even imagine Hermoine could be violent, or until the last book, no one could fathom that Ron was capable of leaving Harry or that Snape was capable of such a big sacrifice⦠It took 22 movies to give us an aspect of iron man - I at least never thought was probable. But were these characters destroyed, or playing out of character - NO! There had never been a situation where these characters had to act in such a manner before - so to us, it was out of character but it really wasnāt.
Coming back to Sunaina - Weāve known Sunaina to be a warm person, kind and compassionate - but of course, she is and will always remain a mother. She also has her own insecurities. Her world is her kids and she will do anything to protect them⦠And she did. While protecting her son, she ended up making horrible mistakes - something that has angered a lot of peopleā¦
But that made me wonder too. Why? Why did a motherās simple actions be such a big deal? Why was it not looked like a mother saving her son - but as a mother standing against her daughter in law? Why were people (me included) expecting Sunaina to stand by Krishna against all odds? Because if this was a real-world situation - no one would have pointed fingers at Sunaina - because thatās how real mother in laws are - arenāt they?
The answer that came to me was pretty interesting. The fingers were pointed at Sunaina because the bar of a mother in law has been set pretty high by ITV. If Ishita and Tulsi can kill their own sons just for their daughter in laws, or every mother in law chooses her daughter in law over their son - well why doesnāt Sunaina⦠Thatās the only answer I get.
Because whatever Sunaina did, was not out of character or unreal. That is how the real world works! I am not saying what she did was right⦠She did what probably any mother wouldāve done - of course, she did a tad bit more but that was for drama!
Iāve made my peace with Sunaina.
