I like the whole Kane and Abel skeleton of this story and that novel being one of my all time favourites , i just had to watch this show. I really like the overall show even though i feel we have missed out on some major chunks of Aditya's childhood and teenage at least. Kabir's story is rough and raw but i think the writers didn't need to rub it into us that much. He comes from the shadows, we understand but there were a whole lot more dimensions that we wanted to see. Anyway , getting on to the real purpose of my post. Aditya and Gayatri.
From whatever i have seen of the show , somehow when i look at this grandmother-grandson duo, i am reminded of one of the greatest power pairings in Indian history - Chandragupta Maurya and his mentor and guide Chanakya. And why not? Aditya has all the makings of becoming THE MERCHANT. I don't see him as anything like his parents , not on the surface at least . He may have come from Devika's womb and taken after his father as far as his personality goes , but the genes that screa, from within him are Gayatri's. The person he has taken after from the Merchant bloodline is Gayatri in many ways. Or we can say that Adi is the manifestation of Gayatri's dreams, ambitions and her definition of what a Merchant should be - especially the Merchant who is born to sit on the throne.
Aditya is genetically ,mentally and in a way emotionally conditioned to WIN. It is just there in him and you can't change it. And the woman who corresponds and responds to this fire in him is his grandmother- Gayatri Merchant.
Gayatri Merchant is a grey woman, yes. She is the stuff that power legends are made of. It won't be wrong to say that she has been the man of the family at many points. She embodies ambition , aggression , assertion , power , royalty and a calculative Machiavellian mind that knows how to play its cards. She knows that Adi is the future and that too a brilliant bright future. She needs to nurture him , shape him, chisel him so that when he sits on the powerseat tomorrow , she is sure that he was born to claim it. Gayatri is not your stereotyical emotional grannie. She is a powerful individual who emanates strength and stubbornness which excites and impresses Aditya. From whatever interactions we have seen between the grandmother and the grandson , Aditya sees the future Aditya Merchant he wants to be in his grandmother. He connects to her, he opens up to her and she stays a pillar to him - rarely emotional but always supportive and DIRECTIVE.
It is not that Adi doesn't love his mom . He does and his concern over his mom's simple innocence shows that behind that calculative sharp mind lies a heart even though it comes secondary. But lets face it, what Adi thinks and feels for Gayatri is far more superior and bonded.
I am not sure if Aditya is going to learn or has learned all the right things from his grannie. I mean alongwith strength , intelligence and winners' theory , he may also pick Gayatri's ego , arrogance , stubbornness and self-centric approach to life. Too early to judge that way.
In the long run , we may never be able to judge if Gayatri is a good or bad influence on Adi. But there are two things which are as clear as writing on the board. Adi is attached to Gayatri and it is deep. Whatever Adi becomes, Gayatri is the sculptor in many ways. Secondly , Gayatri , if you look at it had no choice but to sculpt Aditya to be the man who will carry on the Merchant empire. Yes, as contrived as it sounds, she had to create a king out of a boy and she did it. She is doing what Chanakya did for Chandragupt to flag off the great Maurya dynasty.
GOD bless everyone. 🤗
