I always thought Ekta wanted to star Harshad in another one of her shows and so decided to kill off Prem and then Preet would step in...but changed her mind due to audience demand/backlash.

I think it would have been super awkward...so I'm glad Meet happened instead and they brought Prem back.

yes, as per basic plot by ekta, premeer will fall in love but before marriage prem will die and then preet will emerge as mature man and will take care of everything like prem and will marry heer. and they says prem's death was planed with in 2-3 months..but since additi was newbie, they prolonged track so as to establish her. and make her strong enugh to carry the show on her shoulders.. but before they realised, premeer was instant hit, and got a massive fan following too. evn then they tried the track..but chnaged it and brough hc back becz of fans protest. and ekta give ssr lead role on pr instead.

but if we look at the intial days and dialogues.. they dont match with the theory.. i mean.. tej saying that heer is born in this word only for prem.. tum sirf aur sirf uskeliye bani ho.. aur woh tere lye.. , then shiv mandir sequence and all say premeer are utimate soulmates and they cant be with anyone else..heer can never marry preet. so my guess is vikas used his creative liberty and changed the plot.. he made premeer so powerful and beautiful ..and give them a unique plot?
