btw, for some odd reason, i did a lot of ''flashbacks'' to older shows while watching this episode. 😆 didn't you?
* big thing: y'know what i remembered during when lj and gaali-maa** fell at the body of vitchface, with her blistered face? harman and preet when they ''discovered'' pb's body when he apparently died. and then, lj when he saw the same.
and i zoned out for a moment thinking of the richness and the depth of the sadness and sorrow during those scenes. in comparison, these vitchface death scenes felt... quite flat, no? didn't it look like dq (deepak qazi, the guy who plays lj) was totally non-reactive? and gaali-maa switching between ''is this the surprise that you promised me?? this???!'' (shiver, that was chilling) and ''i've never seen a smile of married bliss on my daughter's face'' (yawn), jarred, making me frown. even her going over to hit nihaal was ... flat.
and that was what kept hitting me about almost every other person that appeared in the scenes that followed -- they were all sooo darned low-key. ashlesha. shrimp maya. harman! preet!!!! the only juneja with a half-decent reaction was... prem. and heer.
* little thing: nihaal was like a stone -- but that was expected. his saying that vitchface's death was his fault was soooo... *sigh* expected. after all, he is a maan kid, right? i think they are genetically coded to want-to-be-sacrificial lambs! *sigh*
* little thing: so now nihaal has been slapped around by all the juneja men! until now, prem had been my hero who held true to the gandhian principle. and now, even he has fallen by the wayside! waaaah!
but there was something about that helpless, wildly swinging, almost unfocussed hits that prem was raining on nihaal that was very different from the way that the other juneja's had abused nihaal in the past. like prem wasn't really focussed on nihaal's face, nihaal's crime but rather on vitchface's burnt face in his mind's eye, on the fact that she was no longer alive.
and btw... prem paid for his sin of breaking my gandhian trust - through an hc thing which comes later!
* little thing: as prem flung heer away to the ground, preet showed the first and only real reaction in the entire show! his face reacts with shock at that violent act from his pb!
preet who was surprisingly passive through this whole show. i guess sr was not really there while the rest of the cast was shooting this episode? and watching those odd shots of preet's passive face, i realised that no matter how good an actor you are, you really need the context to have the right expression to fit into the scene. preet was soooo ... not-preet in this whole show! something we have never had before.
* heer thing: heer running desperately between comforting nihaal bhai, and her prem made for a more heart-wrenching sight than the flat misery of all the other junejas for vitchface's death.... no?
* prem-heer thing: he may have flung her away in his wild attempt to try to hurt nihaal. but when prem finally focussed on what was really bothering him -- that his baby sister vitchface was dead -- he was like a child in heer's arms, no? all the fight drained out of him, and it felt like he would've dropped to the ground if she hadn't been holding onto him, wrapping her arms around him, shielding his eyes from watching the sad sight of that little stretcher making it's way across the lawns. or the sight of his mother collapsing and needing her children to help her into the ambulance.
and it said so much that when she covered his eyes, he didn't object, he didn't fight. in fact, he just buried his face into her shoulder and allowed her to take charge, to hold him up, to shield him, to soothe him, to comfort him, to allow him to shelter in her -- if only for a little while. i loved how we got to see his arm flexed showing that he was lifting his hand to hold her close, before they cut that show.
*sigh* y'know? we've seen just how heer needed prem for so long. but it was a revealation to see that prem needs heer just as much! how can anyone -- with eyes, or a heart -- ever take her away from him and expect him to live?
* little thing: other than the uneasy feeling that the death of vitchface seems to have affected the junejas far less than the ''apparent death'' of prem in october, i must say that the presentation of the many little vignettes was nice.
the vignette of everyone forcing themselves to the dining table, just for the sake of gaali-maa, trying to get her to eat, was very sweet. that they had no real inclination to eat themselves was sooo nicely shown in how after prem's little ''hey, preet! let veera have it, no?'' outburst, they all got up and left the table, one by one. the vignette of nihaal cuddling his wife's photography while weeping in bed.
* little thing: btw, wasn't it weird that it was ashlesha who was comforting gaali-maa in that first vignette? heer was standing by the staircase but she was not with gaali-maa -- was that 'cause gaali-maa has already shown heer that she can't stand the sight of her? or was that heer just being extra careful not to make gaali-maa more upset 'cause she is nihaal's sister? whatever. it was weird to see ash -- why not kuldi? or one of the brothers? hmm.
* little thing: didn't anyone else find those ''4 day later'' slides extremely silly??? what the heck were those for??? why did it matter that it was ''4 days later'' for crying out loud??!
* little thing: prem's little memory of vitchface stealing preet's food from under his nose, reminded me of the only real happy memory that i have of vitchface in the show: the time that prem had been shut out of jzoo, and preet and she put on an elaborate drama to fool lj (lalit juneja) that prem had come back. that was the first and probably the last time that we ever saw a ... nice veera, no?
* hc thing: ooh, hc hurt his hand in that little slap-nihaal-fest! his right hand was wrapped in a sprain-bandage while he was hugging heer for comfort. oooh, so is that why they had to shoot prem with a stand-in for all the family shots??
side note: let that be a lesson to all you who are non-believers in non-violence, btw! violence never does anyone any good -- no matter the reason for doing it. violence - bad, non-violence - good. 'kay? *me trying to keep the sanctimonious look off my face... 😆* end of side note.
but thank goodness, they pulled the real prem in for the prem-heer hug! 'cause that hug was soooo beautifully done -- and we'd have totally lost that if they'd tried it with ag and a stand-in!
thanks, hc, for doing it despite the sprained hand! soooo loved that hug... 😍
*sigh* i must go back to making a list of prem-heer hugs. categorised and classified. as started by prem; as started by heer. while not very long, or setup very elaborately, that little hug would definitely classify as one of the sweeter ones, no?
it was heart-melting, in it's own way. prem fiercely grabbing onto heer to comfort him, to give him a reason to hold on, to not go crazy, to ground him. prem... 😍
* big thing: um... seriously. didn't anyone else feel a sense of discordance with gaali-maa's statements all through the show? my head hurt at the end of the episode with whatever she said. 'cause i couldn't for the life of me get what she wanted!
what is her problem? yes, her daughter is dead. but, as lj said, the past cannot be undone. then what did gaali-maa mean when she said that it can be undone? no matter how much everyone has to change? what did she mean by that??! does she know what she is talking about?
omg! is it true what i've always been thinking??? is vitchface truly a vampire and will come back to suck everyone dry of their blood real soon now???
don't look at me like that! i was sooo irritated with the entire last segment that i will accept any poopy story line to be able to understand exactly what gaali-maa is seeking.
yes, it is true that nihaal led her to think that he is responsible for vitchface's death. but what was she trying to achieve with her long bhashan to her very own family. effectively, what she said was that they were all guilty in their own ways for vitchface's death! seriously! that is what she said. to lj! to prem! to everyone in that room at large.
and then, of course, to poor heer -- with whom she was the coldest, most cutting and cruel. ''you, who have always been on your brother's side! what did you have against my daughter?? speak. speak!!'' and then when heer tries to speak up, tells her to ''shut up!'' (otherwise known as ''bas!'' in the juneja household. 🤣)
and btw, i'm still feeling my head spin that gaali-maa is treating heer and meher differently. meher who is miserable and upset at watching gaali-maa tear into heer for supporting her nihaal-bhaiyaa. i wonder how gaali-maa is going to treat meher if she pours so much obvious hatred and scorn on heer in public!
but seriously, at the end of that segment, the only thing that i could figure that gaali-maa is asking for is: everyone's blood to compensate for the death of vitchface. what else can she be saying? she wants to destroy her own family if it will help her grieve for her daughter more.
except what i think she should be accepting is her own guilt in this whole story!
she was guilty of bringing up her daughter in a half-baked way -- so that the daughter couldn've even accept a life that was as well-settled as the one nihaal was offering. she was guilty of this, probably because she has obsessed so much more about prem more than any of her other children all her life. i guess it's just lucky that of her own three children, only vitchface turned out to be such a clueless disaster.
she was guilty of retreating into vegetable-state when prem vanished. retreated so badly that she cut herself off completely from her son preet getting married. her son harman abandoning the family in hard times. her daughter veera getting married. she helped with none of that.
she was guilty of abandoning all the principles of good and fair parenting the moment she lost her head to the idea that she wouldn't be getting a grand-child from prem or from vitchface. and sinking to the level of trying to break up prem-heer-are-one just to ensure a better future for vitchface.
and all this guilt is now consuming her -- but in a totally reverse-psychological way. she now looks like she is out to destroy everything around her that she helped create! why, i wonder? so that she will not suffer the agony of discovering any new flaws?
man! who is this gaali-maa??!
* heer thing: heer is still being a duffer, no? does she know by now not to say anything when gaali-maa asks her what is obviously a rhetorical question??! *sigh* prem is going to have such a hard time handling gaali-maa with such a naive wife around... *sigh*
highlight of the episode: hmmm... the way heer shielded prem's eyes from the sight of the stretcher carrying vitchface away. the way prem stopped fighting her and buried his face in her shoulder. the way prem's eyes trembled with a smile remembering vitchface's preet-food-stealing antics. the way prem instantly turned to heer for reassurance when he realised that it was not real...
prem-heer-are-one is so obvious and natural and true that i can no longer remember ever not knowing that prem-heer-are-one! *stunned muh*
w&w to see it last forever... 😍
if i offended anyone with anything, i'm sorry. i'm sorry also that this bt,lt is sooo late. but number of mom-friends at home has gone upto 2. and given that they haven't seen me for nearly a year now, means i get little time to myself. not that i mind. except... man! i miss my daily two hours on the phorum. 🤔
