Enjoy my second foray into this pairing! Oh, and just so you know, it's based before they get married (which becomes pretty obvious soon enough. 😆)
Kulraj twirled her pen absently between her fingers, gazing at the wall. She rested her head on her hand and sighed. She should have been taking advantage of the silence in the house, her family having taken pity on her and gone out for the day, leaving her to study in peace. But she could not focus. The words swam in front of her eyes, forming a smile that seemed to tease her. It was the smile that belonged to the man she had begun to dream about at nights. She hit herself on the back of her head, forcing herself to focus. She brought the pen down and between to take down notes.
Half an hour later, she sat back satisfied. She would have to review her notes, but first she would take a short break. She could not wear herself out before her examinations, and flunk her final year. She leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.
"Kul," she heard a soft whisper in her ear. Her eyes shot open, and she looked around in shock. The room was empty.
A clatter at the window caught her attention and she wrote it off as her imagination and the wind. She shook her head, and got up to close the window. As she stretched out, she felt someone next to her, hot breath on her neck. A hand reached out next to hers and curled around her hand, pulling the shutter. She looked to her right, disappointed when she saw no one there.
"Kulraj, get a hold of yourself," she scolded. "No one is here. No matter how much you want him to be." She paused, shocked at the turn in her thoughts. They were just friends, she told herself. "Just friends," she said softly, a pang of sadness flooding her being.
She sat herself down at her desk again, pulling her notebook towards herself. She began to read the notes she had just taken absently, controlling the direction her thoughts liked to take when unchecked.
"Iago served to bring Othello's latent insecurities to light, resulting in his loss of trust and faith in his wife. Desdemona's love for Othello was doubted, despite the obvious signs otherwise. Kiran Malhotra is completely oblivious and does not see me as anything other than a friend. I'm in -" she trailed off as she realised what she had been reading. Her notes, her carefully constructed notes were not notes at all. She had written down her feelings for Kiran all over the paper. Feelings she had been trying to ignore and write off as mild attraction, because they had been friends for so long. But now they stared her in the face. Literally. The words danced in front of her eyes, taunting her. 'I'm in love with him. I'm in love with my best friend.' She sank into her seat, eyes wide. She was in love with Kiran Malhotra. He was the man who haunted her dreams. He was the man she saw wherever she turned, whose voice she heard in her waking hours, despite him not being around. He was her best friend, her confidante, one of the sweetest and most sincere people she knew. And she was in love with him.
