Parivaar's lead Deepti Devi aka Radha's cornea has been damaged due to excessive use of lenses and glycerin. She will undergo an eye surgery in Pune of February 6.
About her condition, Deepti tells us, "Yeah my cornea has been damaged because of long hours of lens usage and glycerin. My eyes have become unfocused and it has become so serious that I have to undergo a laser operation. I already have specs with a -5 number. Hope the operation goes well. My eyes will be bandaged for 10 days after that so I will be taking a break from my shooting."
Eye specialist Dr. Rashmi Sharma gives us more insight into the matter. "Our eyes are very delicate and when outside particles are used excessively such damages are bound to take place. Cornea is a very delicate part of the eyes and if a person is using cosmetic contact lenses then there is a possibility of infection which may give rise to ulcers and for that surgery is a must. Continuous use of lenses gives rise to less oxygen and this condition is called Oxygen hypoxia."
According to her glycerin is not such a big concern. "During therapy we use it so it is not a major problem compared to contact lenses. But the patient has to take extra care or it may lead to one getting high number glasses. A cornea operation can be done is such cases and laser technology is also available. It depends on the patient's case history."
Television actress Panchi Bora says that she is very particular about her eyes. "Before the shoot I wash my eyes so that all the dust particles are removed. During make-up I strictly tell my make-up man that the lenses should not be used by anyone else."
We also spoke to Suneil Tambe, the make-up man of Gunjan (Archita, Kyunki) and Panchi Bora (Prachi, Kayamath). Suneil informs, "We have to take lots of precaution as eyes are very delicate. If there is any irritation we apply medically approved eye cool to avoid any kind of infection. The stars personally also take a lot of care."
