KBC is a family show, says Shah Rukh
Mumbai, Jan 31: The Badshah of Bollywood and heart-throb of young generation Shah Rukh Khan has given the much-watched and acclaimed Kaun Banega Coroepati (KBC) -III a new look, new zest, new style, new flavour and getting applauds for his mesmerising performance from all quarters.
Speaking to Chronicle on KBC set, Shah Rukh admitted candidly that he was nervous about the show at the start but he did hard work with KBC team (Siddarth Basu and Sameer) to make the show different and effective from the very first episode with a new style by adding jokes suitably with the job.
He said that KBC III is more cleaner, crisper, quicker than earlier and he finds the new role more entertaining. It was TV which gave me a platform to carve out a niche and I am lucky that again TV has offered me good opportunity to reach, meet, joke and pinch the people with this show, he said.
"And I take KBC as family show. I love to make jokes with people and sometimes I call a middle-aged lady 'you look killing' but what I say I say in family spirit. My purpose is not to deride or hurt anybody." And now he finds himself quite changed than the Shah Rukh of seven years back who was rash and impatient and used to loose temper and for this change he bows his head to people who have made him so today.
He said he was on the KBC as guest when Big-B was its anchor but today by donning the mantle, he feels the crown is not easy but he works and will do more to take the show to a new height.
He told that he had an offer from Zee TV to do a parallel show to KBC when it was started first time but I did not accept it.
The cheerful SRK takes the challenge with joy and overcomes it dancing, laughing, smiling, chuckling and sometimes he quells embarrassment too sportingly if any.
When talk of roping in SRK as anchor of KBC in place of millennium star Amitabh Bachchan was going on, there was doubt whether SRK will live upto people's expectations, whether he will lift it to more dizzy height than Big-B. But now it is all history, Shah Rukh proved that he can rule hearts of TV viewers alike. And this is all due to his polite, jovial, friendly, to respond quickly, enough patience and above all take the every show as a game, attitude and temperament.
During the live shoot of KBC episode, this reporter had opportunity to see how he acts, reacts, meets, speaks to the contestans as well as he honours guests on the set.
The experience was superb. When he joined the flood-lit multi-coloured set, the cheer and laugh for him poured from everywhere and all desired to be near him. As the anchor of KBC, Shah Rukh shows tremendous patience and responds instantly to whoever wants to ask him or has any doubt, he does his best. He can do body massage, can do whatever the people want from him.
He is not performing a routine role of anchor nor confines him to mere quiz session but the genius SRK talks with the contestant before him on hot seat in his or her dialect and tries to make the moment more friendly and call computer by different names.
If contestant like Tarun Gagoi hailing from Assam, who did well, asks him to perform folk dance Bihu, he shows no hesitation but dances, cries with joy and entertains all and at the same time he has respect and peel of laughter for experienced man on the hot seat PS Krishnamurthy (Asst Commissioner Income Tax, New Delhi) as per his taste and choice or Rachana Sharma, a lecturer from Jind. When he asked her whether she is a strict or lenient teacher, She tells him that she is considered a strict teacher. Shah Rukh said she taught him to be patient.
He embraces the contestant if he or she fails with warmth and bids good bye with open heart. Besides, the person accompanying the contestants get a feel of friendly, jovial and mirthful moments with SRK. When he asks wife of Mridul Gogoi to sing a Hindi song, he gets quick positive response.
"The show is on and will go on. I am enjoying it. It is not for money nor fame nor to gain a footing. In fact, the task is novel, its spirit is unique and the charm and natural love he gets from the people during the KBC is unbelievable and I will do justice to them", said a chuckling SRK,
