‘Think carefully before you make your next move Mr Bajaj’
Prerna smirked at her husband who sat across her with a frown on his forehead as he tried hard to concentrate.
‘If you lose, you’ll do as I say..’
She tried to tease Rishabh but her husband was ready with his answer
‘I have been doing that since the day we got married..’
Rishabh spoke without glancing at her but he was sure that his wife was blushing now. Five years since they have been married and yet he could make her blush just with his words.
‘Okay. Talk less and play your next move quickly..’
Prerna changed the topic swiftly, with one deep breath and a second thought Rishabh finally played his move. There was no way that was going to lose to his wife in a game of Ludo. Happy with his move Rishabh finally looked up to glance at his, she rolled the dice and got a two.
‘Tch, kaha tha na. Soch samajh ke apna move khilayega Mr Bajaj…’
With a sly smile on her face Prerna picked one of her tokens and placed it next to the one which was supposed to be Rishabh's. She saw his eyes widen as she picked his token and placed it in the house.
‘What?!? That’s my second token that you have sent back in the home column right before I made it to my house area. Aise toh main kabhi nahi jeetne wala..’
Rishabh complained, he could not believe that his wife could so easily beat him in a board game. Prerna shrugged her shoulders and replied
‘Aap smartly nahi khel rahe toh main kya karun? You had rolled a five, if you would have moved this token you would have gone ahead of me and landed on the star sign..’
She pointed on the board and continued
‘But you decided to move the other token instead. Maine bola tha na soch ke move khelna..’
Rishabh felt like ripping his hair off his head. This was a stupid game, and his wife obviously aced it hence she was able to play so well.
‘That’s not fair. You can’t keep killing me (making inverted commas in air) again and again. And how was I supposed to know that you’d roll a two.’
‘Everything is fair in Love, War and Ludo. This game requires a strategy. Anyways now let me focus on my game’
Prerna replied cheerfully and rolled the dice again, with a six, she grinned cheek to cheek and rolled the dice again, with a five and then finally one more time as the ‘bonus turn’ for having sent Rishabh’s token back to home column she rolled a three.
Rishabh looked in shock as she moved her token ahead, she was nearly in her house area and it was her last token. No matter what moves he made now, she had already won the game. Within next five minutes the game ended and never in his life had Rishabh felt so embarrassed
‘I can’t believe I lost to my wife in a stupid board game.’
He muttered under his breath but Prerna had heard it. She grinned at him and raised her eyebrow.
‘Kya hua?! Yakeen nahi ho raha ki aap haar gaye?!’
Rishabh narrowed his eyes at her but that didn’t have any effect on Prerna either. She was blooming in joy having beaten the world’s best businessman in a game of Ludo.
‘It’s okay. Aise bhi yeh bacchon ka khel hai..’
‘Jis main Maine aapko hara diya…’
Prerna promoted in middle of his sentence, Rishabh rolled his eyes at her and continued
‘Yes, jis main aapne mujhe hara diya but I don’t think you should take it as some big achievement…’
Rishabh tried really hard to hide the disappointment in his voice. He was sulking from inside, it was a big deal for him to lose to her in this game. He started collecting the tokens and kept it aside with the board.
‘Now since you have won. Bataiye kya karna hai mujhe..’
He asked trying to end this discussion before Prerna went on teasing him further. The glee in her eyes was visible as Prerna got off the bed and grabbed his hand. She locked her arms above his right arm as she dragged him out of their room.
‘So, aaj hum dono chaat khane jayenge..’
Rishabh halted in his tracks as soon as Prerna spoke these words. He dreaded having chaat from the streets, they were unhygienic and spicy!!
‘Prerna…’
He was about to complain but Prerna glared at him and shook her head negatively.
‘You have lost the game. And deal is a deal Mr Bajaj. Aapko abh meri baat mani padegi..’
Prerna tried to make the best puppy face possible and convince him. She noticed that his eyes were softened. She smirked in her head as she left his arm and cane in front of him, with her fingers she started playing with the top button of his shirt which was undone before she spoke in a sugar-coated voice
‘Aur waise bhi aapne kaha tha na ki aap meri har baat mante hain. Toh abh kya hua? Mere saath chaat khane nahi chalenge?!’
She blinked her eyes rapidly at him. Rishabh closed his eyes and sighed as he rubbed the bridge of his nose.
‘You are impossible!’
That was the only thing Rishabh could say to his wife after all this. Prerna quickly placed a kiss on his cheek before locking her hands with his once again as they left walked out of their house
——
Rishabh had not even parked the car properly when Prerna hopped out of it and walked to the chaat stall. He shook his head at her excitement. In a minute or so he was by her side.
‘Bhaiya do plate puchka. Ek thoda zyada theeka plate bana na aur ek main theeka kam dalna..’
‘And please mineral water ka use kijiyega. If possible!!’
Rishabh interrupted Prerna and earned a glare from her and a weird stare from the vendor
‘Tension mat lijiye sahab. Main sab mineral water main hi banta Hun..’
Rishabh only nodded his head in response, he had hopes that the vendor actually meant it. The vendor had not even placed the first puchka in Prerna’s plate when she took it from him and ate it. She closed her eyes in pure bliss as she enjoyed her favourite street food. Rishabh was so busy adoring her with a smile that he failed to notice that the vendor had kept one on his plate as well.
When Prerna noticed that her husband was only busy looking at her, she picked the puchka from his plate and fed it to him. She giggled as she saw him struggle trying to gulp it. She took his plate from his hand, keeping it aside she told the vendor that they would share one plate.
They finished almost two plates each in less than 15 mins with Prerna relishing her extra spicy puchkas and Rishabh enjoyed being fed by his wife. The vendor too has a smile on his face as he witnessed the love between the couple. Once Prerna felt content to heart and stomach both, they started their ride back home.
‘Aap mante nahi, but you also like eating Chaat’
Prerna spoke in a teasing tone and looked at Rishabh. He shook his head at her and replied
‘Aisa kuch nahi hai. Maine bas iss liye kha liya because I was a little hungry..’
‘Haan.. Haan, Make more excuses. Jaise aap Ludo ka game bhi issliye har gaye because aapko last time yeh game khele bohut time hogaya tha…’
Rishabh rolled his eyes at her and tried to not sulk again. He should have know that his wife would not let this die soon and now he’d come to know what it meant to lose a game of Ludo to his wife!
