| Part Five

If I could hold your hand, I would be the luckiest one alive. If I could make you smile, I would be the best one alive. If I could soothe your pain, I would feel the most content one alive, for, you, my love, there has been nothing before you to me, nothing precious than you to me, and nothing... worth living for... for, you, my love, I could give up even my breaths to keep your heart beating.

"Leave my hand, Mr. Bajaj." I hadn't turned around. Turning around meant pushing myself a step ahead to breakdown and I wasn't letting that happen.

"Does my touch still disgust you?"

I shut my eyes at his statement. Those words had my ears burning.

"I am waiting, Prerna. Does my touch still disgust you?"

"Stop it, Mr. Bajaj." He was doing it on purpose, I knew but why? Did he get to know? No, no, how could he? I tried jerking his hand away but his grip was ridiculously firm but it didn't stop me from struggling.

I just anyhow wanted to get away from the place. Get away from him.

He was making it far too difficult for me than he could ever know.

"Does it disgust you, Prerna?"

Damn, you, Mr. Bajaj. Damn you. I hated what he was doing to me. I could still hear the same pain his voice that I heard months ago. How was I supposed to tell him that I disgusted myself?

"Hey, you... what are you doing? Leave the girl's hand."

Before I could speak, I heard a male voice that seemed to be directed at Mr. Bajaj. A second later, the sounds added up and I knew what was happening. I wondered if it would be a nice idea to get away from him.

I could feel a bunch of people gathered behind us.

"Take your hand off."

I heard someone warn Mr. Bajaj. I mentally sighed at the situation.

"Take your hand off my collar."

Damn it. Someone had held Mr. Bajaj's collar? It was getting a bit too much.

"The same hand will punch you in the face now for misbehaving with a girl."

Panic rose inside me as I heard an infuriated male voice. F everything. I turned around only to see that his fist was about to hit Mr. Bajaj and he didn't seem to be willing to stop the punch that was about to land on his face.

"Stop." My hand was still his hold when I asked the people to step back. "Thank you but I am fine. I can handle it on my own."

I narrowed my eyes at Mr. Bajaj when I glanced at him from the corner of my eye and caught that smirk on his face... the smirk that I had lost my heart to.

"Look, don't get scared. Tell us if he is threatening you. We will teach him a good lesson."

A part of me smiled to see that society was changing and people were standing up to help women in trouble. "I am glad to hear that but I am fine, really."

"Are you leaving my collar or would I have to make you leave it? But, I believe, you would not like the latter." Mr. Bajaj's tone wasn't threatening yet intimidated the man enough and his hold loosened before he pulled his hand back.

"Shall we talk somewhere else?" Mr. Bajaj looked at me, with that sly smile gracing his lips that usually did when his manipulations worked.

My eyes grew wider as his hand swiftly slipped from my wrist and he intertwined his fingers with mine, making our way out. I could see no other option than obliging at least until we were out of the place. I certainly did not want anyone to say anything to him.

My gaze lifted at him when he suddenly stopped after a couple of steps. He tilted his head back, so did I, to see what he was up to. "By the way, this is my wife I was talking to. I am sure, I do not need to seek permission from you or anyone else for that matter to talk to my wife, do I?"

My rounded eyes shifted from the man at the front to the man beside me. Hearing the word wife from made my heart flutter but that was wrong. That was just wrong but I chose to stay mum and hurriedly stepped out.

His hand was jerked right at the moment we crossed a significant distance and I covered a quarter to stand right in front of him.

"I am not your wife. Why did you say that to him?"

"Because you are. Your denial doesn't change anything."

"I signed the divorce papers."

"And, you think that's enough? You think you were alone in the relationship? You think you were alone in the marriage? No, Mrs. Bajaj. I was equally involved and for the divorce to happen, my signature is equally needed and I... never signed divorce papers."

I stood there, dumbstruck.

He didn't sign divorce papers.

I didn't know whether to smile or cry.

All I knew was, my destiny was cruel and my life, fuc**d up.

Someone had held Mr. Bajaj's collar? 😳

And he let him do that. LOL.

I wished you added a little more sarcasm there.😎

Loved the update. And he didn't sign the papers. Ofcourse!😆

Prerna, common woman, just accept the fact.🤣

Waiting for the next one.
