Sanjit Bedi
Presently, Sanjit Bedi is doing four shows on television.

However, it is the role of Munna, a tapori in Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasman that has got him all excited. This is the first time the actor is playing a character totally opposite to his real-life personality.

Challenging role

"Munna is something that came as a challenge to me. Smriti kept telling me how I have been playing a rich, spoilt brat till date and doing this role would be different. I realised that when I began shooting with her."

Apart from his look, that involves nothing more than a vest and an ordinary trouser, Sanjit also has to work on his tapori lingo. "The funny thing about Munna is that he is the only Gujarati Jain hitman you would ever encounter," says Bedi.

Trying hard to hide his Punjabi accent wasn't easy, but the actor has now mastered the art of being a complete bhai. "It's one of the most fun roles I have done till date. There is also tremendous hard work by the entire unit, including Smriti and the director Santaram, that goes into making Munna work."

Hard taskmaster

Smriti Z Iraani
Even though he's worked with Smriti in Kyunki, Sanjit says he's exposed to a totally different Iraani this time around. "She's my mentor, guide, philosopher and also a hard taskmaster when it comes to getting the best out of me." The actor recalls getting calls from Smrit,i who also co-produces the show along with Ekta Kapoor, telling him how to improve on his scenes.

Still so much to do

"I usually go back home from the set feeling satisfied. But with Thodi Si Zameen..., I feel like I could have done better. Smriti is one person who actually drives you into delivering your best. She's playing Uma after doing Tulsi for years, and knows that the audience expects so much from her. There's always this sense of peace in her."

Bedi doesn't shy away from saying how much he's in awe of her. But what about the buzz about her being a taskmaster and bullying her co-stars on the sets? "She is also producing the show, so one does naturally expect her to get involved in everything. In fact, watching her perform makes me realise there's so much more I have to achieve."

Reacting to the buzz about him quitting Viraasat, he says, "My role is shaping up really well on the show. I have been shooting for 10-15 days with them. I am not leaving Viraasat just yet."
