"I hate make-up," she says. The petite Surveen Chawla insists on doing the photo-shoot clean of greasepaint. When Surveen moved into her 1,600 sq. ft flat in the suburbs recently, she realised living alone was a "big responsibility". Bills, groceries, maintenance…left Surveen in a tizzy. 1. Red Alert The colour red has taken over her home "It symbolises my vibrant personality," she explains. A typical Punjabi, she has a fetish for things that are larger-than-life. "I wanted my home to feel grand," Surveen says. But instead of handing over the job to a professional, she seized the swatches and got to work herself. "It wasn't easy as I was shooting continuously everyday. So, before or after pack-up I would go to the malls and stores to pick up curtains, bed linen, cushion covers, lamps, and the rest of it... "I just don't trust anyone else's choice," she states. 2. Heart Times Her bedroom is where you'll find Archies' Valentine Day stock. "Even as a kid I was obsessed with heart-shaped pillows," Suveen grins sheepishly… "Small pillows make my feel comfortable and cozy." In a tough city like Mumbai you need all the comfort you can get. But the city's been good to her, she insists. "It has done wonders for my career. But I still miss home. Mumbai is the city where dreams come true but after every few months I want to go back home," she sighs. Her three-month-old pet keeps her company, though. "He insists on having his meals with me, and guess what, we share the same bedroom!" 3. Waiting In the wings Her tracks in both Kahin and Kasauti Zindagi Kay may have come to an end but optimistic Surveen is confident that something big is going to happen soon. "I knew that buying this house was a big decision and I wasn't sure if I was ready to shoulder the responsibility of such a big investment at the time. But I've always been very intuitive," she smiles. And it is this sixth sense that tells her that something big is just around the corner. Ask her what kind of roles she is looking for and pat comes the reply, "It has to be a package of a good role, a big banner and plenty of money." 4. Going Solo Surveen is perhaps one of the few TV actresses who has fiercely protected her personal life from the media. One hears that she is dating a business tycoon in Chandigarh. Is that true? "Perhaps, perhaps not. Let certain aspects of my life remain a mystery," she smiles. After coming to Mumbai, in addition to mastering the art of discretion, she has also mastered the art of cooking. Surveen doesn't have the tendency to put on weight but eating out, unfortunately, makes her break out in p***les. "I have very sensitive skin that requires good up-keep," she says. 5. Ash you like it 'Doesn't she remind you of Aishwarya Rai?' It's a question that has often come her way. "I certainly take that as a compliment but I'd rather have my own identity." Although, maintaining her identity can be a bit expensive. Actors lead expensive lifestyles, Surveen says. From clothes, to make-up, to shoes, everything has to be perfect. "I'm very savvy when it comes to money but there have been times I've gone overboard in self-indulgence. I'd rather spend money on beautifying my home than myself. Do I really need to beautify myself?" she winks. | ||
