OK, no one could ever accuse Ekta of being rational and logical - at least when it comes to her soaps. But did we ever think that her shows would deteriorate to this extent? Following the first (or should I say second, we had a mini-leap at one point) leap in Kasauti (the 20yr one), a lot of the storylines were hard to digest and some were plain stupidity. And yet, we persevered on because, like it or not, we were hooked. We sat through that horrendous rape track only because we loved Shweta's performances as raging bull Mother India; We tolerated Debo because we thought that she may be instrumental in beinging PM together (yeah, that worked out real well!đĄ)...but now, after two days of this second leap, I feel like chucking the towel in with this show. I honestly believe that it has lost the plot. Aside from the fact that as a premika it hurts for me to see such disgusting acts by the one and only UD (I refuse to call him Prem), it makes me laugh that the show is ALL over the place, with no semblance of meaning or understanding. The last few weeks before the leap were, quite frankly, a mess, with unexplained events STILL remaining unexplained (burkha-lady, Aparna, no one knows that Sharad was out, what happened with the Doris-Rishabh equation, why did he hate her so much?)...
A similar thing happened in Kyunki Saas recently. Now, get this, I DO watch that show occasionally, and mainly for Lakshya at that, but to be perfectly brutal, that show has jumped the shark a LONG time ago....we have family members coming out of our heads, toes, ears, you name it....every time you turn your head there is a new person to contend with, and for every good guy, there are ten baddies....so much so that I have lost complete understanding of what is actually going on in the story, having had to focus on acquainting myself with the new characters....
Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii is still bearable at the moment, but even that is showing signs of wear and tear....for me, it lost much of its glory when Om was killed, and Sasha reduced to a background villain, only coming in every now and then. But that's a different story...my point is, that the top three K shows in the primetime, and Star Plus's three-pronged attack against other channels and shows have, to say the least, jumped the shark MASSIVELY - they are all looking tired....with Ekta churning out new shows at the speed with which the rest of us (ordinary people) would throw out our rubbish bags, I have to stop and ask - is she mad?
Now, that's a question that is not infrequent where Ekta is concerned...but my worry (worry? glee?) is that this time, it is serious. I think the toll of running such a big company has finally gotten to her - she has become so delusional, so trusting in her own grandeur that she seems to think that we will accept anything and everything that she throws at us.
Phew. Sorry for the long rant, but now I am getting to my point (finally, I hear you say!)
My point is, are you still as addicted to K shows as you once were? Would you still (do you still) watch Kasauti/any other show with the same zest and eagerness as you once did? My answer is no. Nowadays, I couldn't care less if I watched Kasauti or not. The only reason I come here is because the KZK forum on IF is addictive, not the show...I halfheartedly read the updates, not even getting surprised anymore at the craziness, and even more half-heartedly watch the videos....there used to be a time when I couldn't miss even a single episode of KZK - yes, even the rape track (which, despite its faults, had TWO good things: 1) it had Mukti and 2) it DIDN'T have Debo)....
So, what's your view? Still addictive or just plain, boring timepass? Would you consider not watching it? Are the wonderful actors and their performances enough to keep you watching?
