Pankkit Thucker with wife Praachi and son Rakkshan
Besides buying a new home, Pankkit Thucker also plans to make a new beginning on television.
Though he has done several serials like Special Squad (Star One), Kabhie Souten Kabhi Saheli (Star Plsu), Kagaz Ki Kashti (Sahara) and Tu Kahe Agar (Zee), Pankkit always landed up playing second leads.
"I came here from Ahmedabad to act. All these years, I needed to survive
and settle myself in Mumbai. I had to keep working and take whatever came my way. But now that I am settled (read a home and cars), I can concentrate on roles that matter."
Family business
Pankkit is seen as Krissh in the afternoon drama, Kumkum (Star Plus), and as Abhimnayu in the daily Twinkle Beauty Parlour (SAB). His wife, Praachi, is also a TV actress.
She essayed the character of Rakhi (Anurag Basu's sister) in Kasautii Zindagi Kay, while in Kagaz Ki Kashti and Tamanna (DD), the couple was seen together.
"After our son, Rakkshan was born, she is taking a break. He will soon turn two, and she will be back at work."
Bankable actress
Pankkit married Praachi in 2000. "Praachi was a banker. I had gone to meet her photographer brother, Chandan Kowli, to get my portfolio done. I got friendly with Chandan, and that's how I got acquainted Praachi. Soon after our marriage, she was transferred to Hyderabad - an offer she did not take up," says Pankkit.
"I was busy with my shoots and based in Mumbai. And we were just married, so she decided to quit her bank job. Later, during her routine visits to the sets of Kabhi Souten Kabhi Saheli, Ekta Kapoor noticed her and cast her in Kasautii. Then other shows followed."
Naya ghar
However, this was not Praachi's first brush with showbiz. She is also a designer, and had done the costumes for Rani Mukerji in her debut film, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat.
"So when it came to doing up our new home, Praachi did all the interior designing herself. Previously, we were based in Borivili; now, we have shifted to a three-bedroom house in Malad. It's spacious and convenient for my shoots.
We loved the layout of the flat — there's no wastage of space at all. Both of us have shopped for every item ourselves, from all over Mumbai.
Each room is distinct — with a unique ceiling, wall texturing and flooring. It has been our labour of love for the last several months," says Pankkit, a self-taught numerologist. "That's why all the numerically correct spellings for my family."
