Onscreen and off-screen- Ronit Roy

Ronit Roy is one of the busiest actors on the small screen. The actor's roles range from the ideal Mihir in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi to the scheming Aparajit Dev in Kasamh Se. We ask his wife, Neelam, about his similarities to the characters he plays and his real life personality away from the cameras.
"Ronit is mixture of every character he is playing right now"

By nature he is like Mihir because he is humble, down to earth and very polite. He has the right business attitude just like Bajaj (Kasauti Zindagii Kii) and has a great sense of style like Aparajit Dev. Ronit is very stylish and likes everything done that way. Nothing is 'chalta hai' for him. He looks into everything with detail and research whether it is something he is buying or wearing. His personality is such that he is soft at times when he needs to be and firm at other times. Yet I can always talk to him and make him understand my point of view. I think that's one of the reasons Ronit can play all his characters so well- because there is a part of that character in his own personality.

"As a husband, Ronit is most like Mihir"

Obviously when you play a character you have to be careful to stick to that type of personality. Ronit is like Mihir to a certain extent but not exactly like him. In our personal life, Ronit is very loving and supportive. He is very caring and keeps everything in mind whether it is about his house, his family, me and my baby. Obviously he can't be exactly like his character in front of the camera because it is a 'character' but he is close to it!

"I'm Ronit's biggest critic"

I watch his serials regularly and even if I miss an episode I catch the re-run later on. I always call him soon after an episode and tell him how he was looking, his attire and his dialogue delivery. At times if I don't like a certain scene I tell him 'I didn't like that and you should not do it next time'. If he's not looking good in a shot I ask him about it and he says 'ok let me think about it' or gives me a reason as to why he looked that way. Sometimes it's because the scene required him to give out a certain type of attitude which I didn't agree with! I'm his biggest critic and he keeps saying that I expect too much of him!

"We fight because all his shows don't give him enough time to spend with me!"

We always fight because he is so busy and doesn't get enough time to spend with me! I'm always cribbing about that and he keeps explaining that he can't because he has so many shows. He says, "This is how I am, how can I help it!" But I try spending time by going to the shoot. I carry lunch for him 2 or 3 times a week and spend a few hours with him on the sets. I take my daughter along too so we get to spend time with Ronit.

"People react very positively when we go out"

The good thing about Ronit's characters, especially Mihir, is that he is extremely loved by the audience so they always come to greet him and talk. Ronit is always very polite and patient. He answers all their questions and poses for pictures. Being his wife I don't feel bad because it is part of his profession. I don't think they're taking my time with him away from me because I know that he is a public figure, people love him and he is doing what he has to do.
