I was just wondering that Ekta always says she hypes the evil to accentuate Good in her shows. But is that really what she depicts? Across the board in all her serials, whether it is Bani/ Parvati/Tulsi.. as long as the characters are virtuous, kind, loving and caring individuals they are treated like dirt. Look at Bani- as long as she was trusting, dutiful, sacrificing she was lied to and betrayed-- by Jigz, Pia,and even Jai( in the mera baccha phase). No one really stood by her, r'ber when Anu's baby was lost how everyone blamed her. Yes Jai has always extended his support, but invariably he's been quiet when Jigz attacked Bani.

It is only when Good begins to plot and scheme, in other words think like the evil characters, that she is able to hold her own. Is this Ekta's subliminal message-- that virtue needs to be tempered with street smartness? After all no one in Ekta's world has been shown to win on the strength of sheer virtue, a lot of counterplots and wicked twists have to be thought of to stay ahead of the villains. What do you think?

It seems in Mayi's serials, the good has lesser control at all times, hence the reason they fall. I guess to some extent it has to be shown like that otherwise there really would be no conflict. My problem with it is that they show the good to be too weak. I believe there is a limit to how weak they can show a character and the weaker they show then, the more butchered they get especially when they are good.

In terms of Jai not standing up against Jigs... I remember a dialogue just before the 'mera baccha' phase. He told Bani when she was crying that she should know what Jigs' nature is like, and she should never take it to heart. I think that the only reason he can not say anything is because she is his sister. Had he wanted, he could have had control. I remember when Jigs had insulted Dadi (way before PR Raaz) and Jai gave Jigs a damn good scolding for doing so.

Ekta's message overall is a bit muddled. We like the virtues that the main positive characters have.. but somehow having street smarts seems more appealing.. especially with Mayi's characters..
