Ok guys... I know its been more enough time since I've updated and I could give you all a world of excuses, but it won't justify the wait. S-o-r-r-y I'm terribly sorry! Won't happen now... And I think next update should be up by Tuesday.
Recap: His eyes looked up, perceiving the blue-clad figure walk out briskly as that strangely intoxicating scent fills his vacant senses... In some strange instinct, his gaze shifted towards his hand still encompassing the paperweight. Gently, it left his grasp as he pulled his hand back. As he pressed his head against the cool leather of the head rest and allowed his lids shield his vision... his ears sensed the discrete movement of the circular object travel aimlessly across his desk... and hit the floor.
Part 7
Tired of arguing and getting more agitated, a silent curse escaped her lips as the woman momentarily looked to the floor. As though gathering the last of her strength her eyes shut tight and reopened, now looking determined into the man's face. "Mr. Malhotra, ye paise mein aapko khud de rahi hoon, aur wohe bhi mere karche ke liye… Now will you please?" (Mr.Malhotra, I am giving this money to you, that too for my own use… Now will you please?). The man looked at her, his eyes speaking his pathetic hopelessness. His lips parted to speak, when a commanding whiff of air turned his attention towards the door. Sighing deeply and following his gaze, the woman faintly caught the sound of the glass door shut before setting eyes upon the cause of the sudden disruption. As he stood before them in his usual towering position, the woman seemed to have become rather rigid. Her eyes had immediately resorted to insignificant corners of the humble room so as to avoid his gaze. An excruciating silence followed before Jai Walia's voice made his presence verbally felt.
"Mr. Malhotra… Miss Dixit… What's going on?" His tone was calm, yet held the authoritive element that strangely always seemed to annoy her. Her thoughts momentarily dwelled on the irksome subject, but it seemed that thinking was quite a task in itself, when he were around. She shifted subtly in her spot judging the tiny beads of sweat leisurely forming onto her forehead. Whatever happened to the air conditioning, she silently wondered. "Miss Dixit… Dixit…" The far off voices suddenly seemed to near… almost to her disappointment, and she looked up with a startled expression. The eyes were directly piercing at her, and she could feel the goosebumps scatter generously across her body. After a pause, his gaze finally seemed to register and she quickly removed her eyes from his… mentally promising never to do that again. What kind of temperature was this? Here she was sweating… and shivering. "I'm… I'm… sorry… s… i… r…" Silence ensued again, and she could feel the eyes map her reaction. Looking for relief, she sneaked a look at her estranged companion in argument prior to the abrupt interruption. A look of disgust took form on her face as she took in his pathetic state. Sanjeev Malhotra was a man of his late forties and had worked with Walia Industries for the passed thirty years loyally. Gradually, but honestly, he had stepped up the ladder to the position he currently held, senior executive of the accounts department. He was a confident man, determined to leave his mark, but even his composure sunk low as Jai Walia hovered before them… Not even just this once, but always. Had it not been for the supportive desk onto which he placed his hand, one would have wondered at his buoyancy. Jai Walia looked at Mr. Malhotra questioningly and the latter responded diligently. "Sir… Miss Dixit insits that she pay for her own costs of the trip to Zurich." As if providing proof of his honesty, he held up the rectangular piece of paper she had minutes before placed anxiously in his hands. She detested being a burden on anyone, or taking favours… Ever since… It always seemed to hit back at you in the end, and she was adamant on keeping her independence and… safety.
Jai Walia looked at the paper Mr. Malhotra held out… and then at the woman. Her face was expressionless, but there was a minute glint of anticipation. He accepted the paper, skimming the contents before glancing up quickly at her again… She had not moved, but her eyes had found solace elsewhere in the room… when they were suddenly grazed by the sight of the rectangular piece turn into smaller squares in dissimilar symmetry. "Miss Dixit, I'm sure the time you have just wasted could have been spent at better use…" He paused, and looked at the other man in the room who looked like he had just seen a cat fly. "Mr. Malhotra, where is the file for the Zurich project? Mujhe iss project mein koi la parvahi nahin chahiye, I want to look into the details thoroughly." (Mr. Malhotra, where is the file for the Zurich project? I don't want any compromises when it comes to this project, I want to look into the details thoroughly.) Malhotra stood unmoving for a second and then spoke as though someone had instantaneously turned his voice box on, "Sir, wohe toh maine aapke cabin mein bhijvaadi hai." (Sir, I've already sent that to your cabin.) Jai Walia nodded and turned to walk out… stopping at the door. He turned his head just enough to catch glimpse of her unaffected or perhaps highly affected state… "Miss Dixit, I've left some work on your desk… Behtar hoga agar aap uspe tohri mehnat karein… it shall only be worth it in the end." (Miss Dixit, I've left some work on your desk… You should probably put some effort into that… it shall only be worth it in the end.) Saying so, he briskly walked out leaving the two occupants of the room starring after him.
Her eyes trailed his robust figure until it disappeared around the corner… and then followed course to where the remnants of the rectangular piece scattered aimlessly on the ground. The AC suddenly seemed to have geared up as the little papers glided gently in opposite directions. As she indifferently observed the phenomenon, a sudden rage appeared to grip her. How dare he? What was he trying to do? How could he do this every time? Sure, he was her Boss… but that didn't mean he had access to interfere in all aspects of her life. Gripped with rage, she stepped out of the room in a similar manner as the man before… but with more urgency.
*Please bear with me... I know its not a great update both in length and content, but things will develop shortly I hope.
Cheers,
dc
