FF: Rescue last part , pg 9 16th nov

Hi guys, I am back again with another FF. Well as u all know I cant write anything myself but ya like to share what I have read. Its one of my favourites and I had wanted to write long time ago but thought I wud write during summer holidays. Its called "Rescue" by Nicholas spark(writer of "A time to remember" and "Notebook"). I don't know how many of you have read it but if u have bear with it. Well the story is exactly same just the place is different. Hope u people will like it.

Rescue

It was raining heavily. Normally u can see far away driving in the motorways but today even few meters were difficult. The wipers were competing with the rain but unsuccessful. It was 10 pm in the night. Bani had been driving since last 45 minutes from central London towards her house, Slough. As usual M4 motorway was filled with cars and because of this rain people today were in extra hurry to go home. As shown in the indicator petrol was not enough in her car. She can't make it to her house. She looked at the passenger seat where her son of five, Atharva was sleeping peacefully. After driving for five more minutes she found a petrol station. She filled the car and went to pay inside. It was a long queue. After taking Lucozade for herself and cold milk for atharva she made her way toward the counter.

Quite a long had formed at the counter as the card of one the costumer was not going through. People had already started sighing and swearing. After few minutes it worked and then after queue stated moving quite fast. After making her payment Bani was making her way back where she found a lady arguing with her small son about not buying another drink when the lady looked at Bani and her son who was silently drinking his milk and wished her son was also as good and quiet as Bani's. Bani understood was she was thinking and came out smiling and shaking her head thinking if only she knew.

After driving for another 10 minutes she took a right turn in a roundabout and moved to A40. It was quieter then M4. Suddenly Atharva's bottle fell down. Bani tried searching with her hands and had just once glanced downwards when suddenly a big lorry came in front of her. She made a sudden turn where her car slipped on the road cos rain and the car bumped into a tree.

"Jump beta jump. C'mon jump nothing will happen I am here I will catch you"

"C'mon beta jump". It was fire everywhere. The heat inside the house was increasing rapidly. The wood were creaking and were in the verge of giving away.

"C'mon jump"

Suddenly Jai woke up panting heavily. He was sweating heavily; he wiped his face by his hand and drank the water kept near his bed. Same dream, Jai's dreamin the same thing since childhood. With shaking hand he kept the glass on the table when suddenly the phone started ringing.

"Hello'yes'where?'Ya I ll be there within 15 minutes"

Bani woke up with a heavy throbbing head.

"How are you now love?"

"Huh" startled bani looked at the person who was trying to wake her up since last five minutes. "I am fine" saying she looked beside her for Atharva when she cudnt she him. Scared she looked everywhere in the car.

"Son my son atharva.. Atharva'." Screamed Bani.

"who are u looking for love?"

"My son atharva, he was with me, look his booster seat, it has been unbuckled. He didn't know how to do that. Oh gos where is he?"

"But there was no one when we came here. Can you remember the time when this accident happened?"

"Ya it was around quarter past ten"

"and now it quarter to eleven. Don't worry dear he might be somewhere near. We will look for him"

"But he doesn't know anything" said bani sobbing now "he has never been left alone. Oh my baby"

"What's your name love?"

"Bani, Bani Dixit"

The man quickly scribbled her name in the piece of paper attached to the cardboard he was holdin in his hand.

"We need to take you hospital. Your head been bleeding, it must be hurting as well. Ambulance is ther, let me take u ther then u go to hospital and we will look for your son."

"no, no I will stay, I will stay till I find my son."

"But dear"

"no" Bani stubbornly shaked her head. With a sigh the man agreed "but you have to be at ambulance so that they can at least bandage your head."

"Ok" Bani slowly tried moving out of car.

"Hold on Bani let me help you, Jai can u come here please?" he slowly held bani by her waist and slowly took her to ambulance when Jai came running to them.

"Yes Aditya you called me?"

"Jai her son's seems missing. According to her he was with her but after accident he was not there in the car."

"What?" exclaimed Jai.

"Yes Jai. Go and inform search party. We need to move on immediately." Said jai aking Bani lie properly on the stretcher.

"Have you got any picture of his?" asked jai to bani who nodded her head and signalled her purse, there was one picture of her and atharva smiling to looking at camera.

"His mane is atharva. I don't know where he went. He never leaves me. He doesn't know anything" cried Bani facing other side. "Please find him," begged Bani.

"Don't worry Bani we will do everything possible to find him you just lie here" said jai signalling Aditya to come outside the van.

The search party had been searching for last half an hour. The rain has not stopped even a bit rather is more forceful now. After hearing about missing child some local residential had come to help as well. They have been searching in groups. There's forest on both side of road. (Ok guys I don't drive so, I don't have that much knowledge about motorways and I am not quite sure if there is any forest in that way but just flow with the story.) The forest on the south side is a bit denser than north so they assumed atharva must have gone north side. The level of water is increasing. It has reached nearly up to their knees. Everybody is screaming his name and communicating with each other through their walky talky asking if ant of then have found.

On the other side Bani has been crying continuously. No one has said anything about Atharve to her. The attendant has been telling her to go to sleep which she has been denying all the time when all of sudden she remembered about Atharva that he wont be able to speak when everyone is calling his name, that he can't speak properly or nearly cant sleep. This made her sniff turn into loud sob and subsequently she faints. Driver hurriedly orders the driver to take the van to hospital.

"We can't find him. I think we need to move back guys." Said the supervisor in his walky talky.

"No he must be somewhere. He can't go missing in this way."

"but Jai we are half into the forest. Where do you want us to search? He must have taken shelter somewhere. A five year child can't walk this much"

"So. You want to leave a child and go" said jai stubbornly and angrily to which his friend Aditya just shaked his head.

"Jai you are being unreasonable. Lets go back.we must have missed some places. Its really dark and we are very few as well. We can easily miss some places."

After lots of coaxing Jai agreed and started searching back ward. After another half an hour they reached the road again where all stood silently defeated. No one knew what to do. Jai was telling them to go back but supervisor said they have already informed the head quarter and bigger search party is coming and will search only they when they arrive. Jai was getting restless by every passing minute.

Krishna, Jai's mother was tossing and turning in her bed. She had heard about missing child. The name Bani was somewhat familiar to her. She was not being able to decide weather to go and meet the lady or leave it. She decides to meet her so wearing some warm clothes she heads toward hospital. As she was Jai's mother most of the people in the hospital knew her. The receptionist told her Bani's room number. As she approach the room she cud hear the sobbing sound. As she open the door there came Bani's loud voice.

"did u find him, did u find anything about Atharva? C'mon tell me. What happened is he alight? Speak something please?????" pleaded Bani.

Hearing this Krishna ran to Bani and hugged her. She tried calming her down and Bani was unstoppable.

"Have they not said anything about him?" asked Krishna wiping her tears. Bani simply nodded her head-indicating no.

"Wait let me call them"

She swiftly made her way toward the telephone kept on the corridor and made a call to the head quarter.

"Hello' yes Andre' this is Krishna Jai's mom' hi son' I am fine thank you' well Andre I wanted to know if you have found anything about the child that had gone missing few hors ago..oh!! ok' call me if u find anything' thank you son. Goodnight."

Krishna slowly made her way back to the room where Bani has been waiting impatiently. She cudnt say anything looking after looking her face and just nodded her head which caused bani to turn her face into the pillow and cry.

Thanks guys. Its great reading your comments. Ya chicken pox is really giving me free time but much more harder time as well.

The search unit had come long time ago and they had been searching for last four hours. With every passing time the interest, enthusiasm and hope is being replaced by defeat and acceptance of the situation. They are signalling each other to come back and this time even Jai couldn't say anything to stop them. All the guys wrapped on raincoat with dam boot and torch light were sipping their coffee trying to stop the clattering of their teeth as the rain today was in no mood of stopping and wind was getting fiercer nearly freezing them. Suddenly a flash of lightening was seen and after sometime a loud thunder was heard, which made Jai realise something.

"Aditya your son is scared of lightening and thundering, isn't he?" asked Jai moving his torchlight frantically in all the direction.

"My son? Even my wife is scared of it. But Why??" looked Aditya at Jai through the rim of the polystyrene cup of his coffee.

"Why didn't we think this before?"

"What are u saying Jai? Be clear."

Jai came running toward Aditya with new enthusiasm and gasping said, "look Aditya we just saw a lightening and it was on the north side of us and the wind is also blowing towards. Why would a child of just five like to walk against the wind? I think he must have gone to the opposite way we had been searching, i.e. towards south."

"But Jai you can see how dark it is on that side and forest is deep as well."

"I understand you Aditya but with this weather and this time the darkness is nearly equal on both side and it's easier for him to walk this side. My heart is saying he is on this side and what's harm in searching even though we don't find him at least we can say we searched everywhere. Please Aditya."

The way Jai was looking at him and his confidence made it difficult for him to say no and he finally gave in. "Ok Jai you win let me say everyone about this but it will be the last one. We can't keep everyone waiting here"

After the last unsuccessful search this time they were moving in a bigger group closely to each other so that they wont miss any place which they have already pass. After half an hour they saw many small deer grove, some of them were cave like structure, as if hiding place for deer. A new ray of hope filled their body looking at it. Jai being at the front almost ran to it. Gasping for air heavily Jai bent down to look inside it but there was no one. Hoping after hope he looked at another one but there was nothing. Fear slowly crept through him but pushing it aside thinking there are more groves he went further. Only few were left when Jai dejectedly bent to have a look inside where he could make a small silhouette at the corner. He couldn't believe his luck, almost running he went to another side and peeped inside.

"Hewo" (Hello) said a smiling face inside.

His eye stung and tears formed at his eyes looking at the boy's face. He pulled him in his arms and hugged him tightly laughing loudly at the process. He couldn't contain his joy. The child instantly wrapped his tiny hand around his neck and nestled on his shoulders. Jai pulled him from his body to look at his face who was constantly smiling at him and slowly the child caressed his cheeks and kissed him softly.

"Mowe" (Mummy) the loud voice jerked Bani back to her senses. Atharva. Its Atharva's voice thinking Bani frantically looked all around herself when she saw Atharva in Jai's arm. He was practically jumping to reach to his mummy.

"Atharva" screamed Bani happy tears flowing down her cheeks. Running he came to her bed where Bani lifted him on to her lap, hugging him, and kissing him all over the face.

"Oh my baby, how are you? Are you fine, did u get hurt somewhere? Show me beta, anywhere, show to mama c'mon baby" cried Bani looking all over his body and hugged him again. She pulled him and asked him if he is well but he simply just stared at his mom smiling whatever her mom said it just went above his head. Atharva started to get off the bed then only Bani realise there is someone else in the room as well. She hurriedly wiped her face and smiled at the person.

"Hi, I am Jai, Jai Walia"

"Mowe" Atharva pointed at Jai smiling and ran to him.

"Hey little man, you got your mom so you forgot me." He simply showed his teeth.

"Well I was one of the search crew member," said Jai smiling.

"Thank you, thank you so much. I don't what will I do without my son." Said Bani showing her gratitude.

"That's alright, it's my duty. I am a volunteer fireman. Actually I do carpentry but sometime I volunteer in fire rescue department. But I must say your boy is really brave. He was not even a bit scared all alone over there," said Jai looking at Atharva who smiled at him and again pointed Jai to Bani.

"May be because I never taught him to be scared"

Silence filled the room. Both Bani and Jai were looking at Atharva who was now looking tired and trying to keep his eyes open.

"I think he quite likes you he hasn't come to me back again." True thought Jai as while coming to hospital he didn't once leave him and even now he is trying to remain awake.

"He is feeling sleepy now give to me. Is he allowed to sleep here?" asked Bani uncertainly.

"Normally they don't allow any visitor to sleep with the patient but after what happen today I don't think so the are going to say anything. You take care I need to make a move now. Good night. Good night little man." But he was already asleep. Jai switched off the light when suddenly

"Mr. Walia? Thank you, thank you very much."

"Good night Ms. Dixit."

Few Days Later

Jai was paying for his purchase on the counter when he heard a voice, which made him turn.

"Atharva no. I told you we have already got it. Look its heavy now we won't be able to take it," said a tired Bani to a very hyper Atharva who is hell bent on buying everything from the store today. Bani bent to take out some of the goods from trolley when

"Hi" said someone. Bani turned to see a smiling Jai.

"Hi. How u been?" asked Bani politely.

"I am fine thank you and I can see u r quite good yourself. Between where is Atharva", he looked around when he spotted Atharva, holding another heavy Jam bottle in his tiny hands, which in any minute will slip from his hands.

"Atharva I already told you we have already got it. Oh god this boy will kill me today," said Bani running taking the bottle from his hand and keeping the bottle on its proper place.

"Hey little man" said Jai smiling at Atharva, who looked at him and running came to hug his legs. "So how is my boy today?" asked Jai lifting him. He wrapped his tiny hands around his neck and kissed him.

"Mowe" said Atharva again pointing Jai to Bani.

"Ya beta I saw him." Said Bani ruffling his hair.

"So what are you doing here?" asked Jai

"I guess shopping" which brought laughing to both of them. "We have just moved here, so everyday we are need of something. Especially now that my car is in the garage I cant even buy a lot so I have to many trips", said Bani pushing her trolley toward the counter which made Atharva nearly jump from Jai's arm as he sure now that his mom is not buying his favourite jam, Nutella chocolate spread, cheese, etc. He just went hyper and ran from them to the different shelf.

"Offo, Atharva we cant buy all those. I promise I will buy it next time. Its already heavy beta."

"Why don't you come with me? I will drop you I have my vehicle parked down and in this way you will be able to buy whatever you want."

"Oh thank you but I cant be such a burden to you. I think you have already done enough to me"

"Again you said that I already told you it was my duty and if u don't want me to see your house then I cant do anything about that." Said Jai shrugging his shoulder. After saying that Bani didn't have heart to say no and the way Atharva have started filling the trolley again she was forced to say yes, in no way she is able to take all those herself without a car. With a sigh she agreed and made her way back into the shop to buy everything she could think of as she doesn't know when is she going to get her car again.

After paying they were making their way out when suddenly realise Atharva with them. They were all around the store when Bani saw him between two shelves choosing between his two favourite chocolate. She drew a long breath and pointed Jai where he was.

"Atharva beta what are you doing there? Come out."

"No"

"No? What no"

"No Atha (Atharva)" Bani closed her eyes listening him.

"C'mon Atharva"

He nodded his head saying no. "itz na atha" (Its not Atharva)

Now Bani had no choice left and gave up to her son wish however embarrassing it is.

"Ok Jai come out. Its time to go" Suddenly he smiled and came running back to her.

"What?" exclaimed Jai beside Bani, which made the situation more difficult to Bani.

"Well Atharva has this strange habit. Whenever he likes something new, he wants to be called by that name and will only reply if I call him by that name. Since that day I have been calling him Jai"

Jai tried every hard not to laugh looking at Bani's expression "So he has done this before?"

"Yes, once we had seen the movie "King Kong" and for two week I had to call him King Kong. We were shopping that day as well and I couldn't find him and I had to search whole store shouting King Kong. All the people were staring at me as if I had gone mad," complained Bani, which erupted a huge laughter from Jai and then Bani started laughing as well.
