Prologue - Pg 1
Chapter 1 - Pg 3
The bright sunlight burned through her eyes. Her head felt like it weighed more than her and chutki's body weight combined and the last time she checked that total was more than what even the weighing machine could handle. When she tried to turn and change her position, as was her habit when she was tired, she couldn't move a muscle. She freaked out. This was not normal. It had never happened to her before. She tried to open her eyes but even they felt heavy and refused to obey her command. Seriously scared now, she opened her mouth to scream for help but no noise was heard. This is crazy. There was something very wrong with her. She knew it. She was expecting it, there was no way God was going to make the biggest day of her life so simple. But she refused to let a simple thing like paralysis get in the way of her wedding to the man of her dreams.
She let her mind drift to the thoughts of her fianc and almost husband in less than 24 hours, Shashank Bose. He was every girl's ideal prince charming. He was deliciously handsome. He was six something, with washboard abs and light green eyes. He was witty without being goofy or sarcastic. He was polished, sophisticated, established. He had just recently graduated from Harvard law and had a bright future with one of the top law firms in the nation. Her mother adored him and the feeling was mutual. But above all she loved him and he loved her. He was what she had always wanted and so much more. He made her laugh and he fit into her world. They were a good match; they fit perfectly in the eyes of their family and in the eyes of society. She grinned in her sleep as an image of Shashank blowing her kiss fleeted through her mind.
Suddenly the video reel in her mind fast forwarded and she was transported back to her current state of paralysis. She was determined to overcome this temporary condition and walk to the mandap and toward the rest of her life with the man of her dreams. She forcefully pried open her eyes and blinked a couple of times at the bright light that was streaming through the drapes. She lifted her head slowly and carefully looked around.
She was in her hotel room. She smiled at that. Shashank had made sure that she had the best suite in the hotel. He wanted to pamper his bride and she had absolutely no objections to that. And then as she continued the survey of her room, a frown gradually began forming on her forehead. Clothes were strewn all around the room but that was not what had her frowning because that was quite common in her rooms, it was minor character flaw that she had been born with, she had no time or patience for cleanliness unlike her Mr. perfect future husband. What made her frown were all the men's clothes that lay strewn on her floor along with her clothes. It couldn't have been Shashank's could it? Nah, she thought, because both of them had decided to wait till the wedding night so it definitely couldn't be his. But then again they had both drunk quite a bit at the dinner last night, especially her, so maybe…
She lifted her head a little more and turned to look on the other side of her bed. She saw a lump bundled up in her sheets next to her. Her eyes trailed the length of the lump and she saw a pair of hairy legs sticking out and dangling at the edge of the bed. She felt a blush begin to stain her cheeks and a giggle bubbling up from inside her. She slowly reached out and pulled away the sheet. What she saw quickly replaced the giggle with a very loud and shrill scream that pierced through the lazy, sunny morning.
