A pristine female voice rang clearly through the halls of the Singhania mansion. Her words and the melody had captured everyone unaware. Lovers from every corner of the house felt a strange, magnetic pull toward the music. They stopped in the middle of their chores and let their hearts and minds drift off to a place of happiness, where they were joyously united with the ones they love.

Memories consumed all the lovers. Some saw glimpse of a future love to come and others saw a glimpse of love they had so long ago lost. Tarun came out of hiding from behind the door and quietly headed toward his beautiful, nightingale friend. "Gauri…" he quietly called out.
Gauri slowly came out of her trance of memories and smiled gently at her friend, "Hey you, how long have you been standing there?"
Tarun grinned and replied, "Long enough. That was beautiful, when did you come up with that?"
Gauri smiled again as she wrapped up her sheet music and covered the piano, "Just something Shiv and I had been working on before I left."
Tarun frowned slightly and asked, "Gauri, did you ever tell him why exactly you left?"
Gauri looked at her friend with a sad smile and said, "Its better for Mehar and his marriage that he not know the truth."
"But still don't you think he has the right to know that his love was not unrequited. He should know that you have always loved him and that the only reason you left is because Radhikaji begged you too." Tarun spoke, outraged on his friend's behalf.
Gauri laid a reassuring hand on his sleeve and said, "The truth is not going to change circumstances. If anything, it will probably affect the happy relationship that Mehar and Shiv share right now. Mehar loves Shiv, maybe more than I ever can, and life has already dealt her an ugly hand. I am not that cruel Tarun; I cannot destroy what little happiness she has right now. Besides I have faith, love will find me again," she looked Tarun in the eye and asked, "Right?"
Tarun took her hand in his and replied with conviction, "Absolutely."
The two lost themselves in each other's eyes when suddenly Lali came running in the room and announced, "Gauri didi come soon, Mayama is calling you, it's about Shreya."
Gauri quickly ran out of the room with Tarun and Lali close on her heels. Behind them a stunned Shiv made his presence felt. He walked over to the piano that held so many memories of young love that never disappeared. He slowly sat down on the cold, hard bench and began undraping the piano, tears streamed down his cheeks as he recalled the conversation he had just overheard. As he began to key the piano, memories of a happy past overwhelmed him
*FLASHBACK*
"Shiv, Shiv let me go…I have to concentrate. I need to finish this song before next week's competition," complained an irritated Gauri.
Shiv pulled her in close and began nuzzling her neck, "I love you," he whispered gently in her hair.
As soon as he said those words Gauri's anger immediately dissipated and she turned in his lap and framing his face with her hands she replied sincerely, "I love you more."
Shiv shook his head, ruffling her hair and replied, "That cannot be possible."
Gauri laughed and answered, "Well if you loved me more than you would help me finish this song."
Shiv grumbled and finally letting her go a little he said, "Fine…where did you get stuck?"
Gauri sang softly:

"I need to come up with a last antara. Please Shiv, you are good at this sort of things help me out" Gauri begged.
Shiv pulled her back onto his lap and gently stroking her soft cheek he sang:

He gently kissed her forehead and then proceeded to kiss each of her delicate eyelids. Gauri closed her eyes and let out a soft sigh, while Shiv continued:

With her long, graceful fingers Gauri began to gently play the tune out on the piano. Shiv reached out and entwining their fingers and their voices, the couple finished:

Shiv slowly played the tune that had defined their love so long ago and softly he sang:

Gauri heard the anguished voice as she hurried over to her cottage. She stopped abruptly for a moment and was engulfed by nostalgia. She turned and looked toward the house. She desperately wanted to go over and soothe whatever sorrow had seeped into his music, like she used to before but she felt rooted to the ground. Her feet were not listening to her heart and that, she thought, was probably for the best. Tarun gently tapped her on the shoulder and said, "Gauri Mayama is waiting."
Gauri nodded and resisting the pull of memories, she slowly continued toward her family.
