Gauri's grand mom

Why is gauri's grand mom so aloof from Gauri's family??? I have just started watching this serial....Does gauri know about her grand mom...why doesnt she talk ot live with her grand mom...If they r so rich, why live like poor.....

also, why does the granny come and tell Mahen's wife that mahen wants this weddign to end?
