I am a new viewer of this show. Have no interest in watching hindi shows as i find them OTT, regressive and plain boring and thus have watched all of three hindi shows in my lifetime.
KY2 was recommended to me by my serial crazy GFs who I met online whilst watching my first hindi show, a few yrs ago. Given that they know my dislike, the fact that they insisted i watch this show, piqued my curiosity and finally i gave in 10 days ago and did a marathon catch up. Wasnt very difficult as this show had enough hooks to keep me engaged. The first and key one being Nandini and Manik's relationship graph. Its been conceived, written and executed superbly- two young lovers exploring new emotions and their relationship without acting precocious or childish. The way their relationship has been shown to grow organically is to be appreciated. And the manner in which these two young actors have essayed their roles is fantastic! One can see them evolve and grow into fab actors during the course of the show. And they brought home their best game in yesterdays episode.
Love making scenes in hindi shows are so unrealistic, OTT and awkward. Heaving bosoms, loud sighs, scrunched up eyes and heavy duty petting and rolling on the bed is not my idea of intimacy. Esplly in a scenario like theirs. But yesterday, manik and nandini were beautiful to watch. Spot on expressions, voice modulation and understated acting. Both Parth and Niti were fabulous but Niti, stole the show. She had to bear the weight of showing the reactions. All her expressions were bang on! Exactly what one would expect from a young girl during her first brush with intimacy. Yo go, girl!
Kudos to the writers , creatives and actors for building this arc so well and projecting it so sensitively on screen. i love the fact that this show has built in the underlying sexual tension bw the two into its narrative. They dont just use it once in a while to create romantic scenes (which is normally the case in most shows) but show how its evolving as their relationship matures. At 18 and 19 your hormones are all over the place. KY2 writing acknowledges that fact- a rare thing indeed. Further, time and again they provide us with the girls perspective. This is even more rare to get-even in hindi movies. Nandini is no shrinking Violet. She doesnt hesitate to show her desires and want to Manik and stake claim on him. At the same time she is new to these emotions and is discovering new aspects to herself and him as their relationship evolves. Their talks around it, the romantic scenes capturing this hesitancy , Maniks understanding and respect for her emotions, his restraint and yet pushing her buttons is fabulously done in KY2. This show has been unprecedented that way.
Hope it continues to entertain and engage similarly till the very end.
Lastly, a big shout out to Richa Yamini. You are the boss , Girl! Two of the three shows ive watched have been yours. You sure know how to project romance on screen.
