Nandu's trauma relating to Pandit has two parts - one which started as soon as her classes with Pandit began. His strict disciplinarian approach to her and her music always undermined her self confidence. The other relates to his physical assault. His touch in the pretext of correcting her or teaching her always made her uncomfortable but she put it down to his teaching method and not associated with the fact that he was a lech, lusting after his pupil. The kidnapping and the subsequent locking in music box and tying up scarred her both physically and emotionally. She began to abhor male touch and fear music, both associated with Pandit.
With Manik's sensitivity and persistence she has overcome her disgust for touch. She is now comfortable with his touch - a fact Manik observed when she was on the verge of leaving for Mangalore. So now the problem is only confined to her fear of music as it still brings back all horrible memories of Pandit. What is the solution to this problem?
Nandu thinks that she needs to stay away from Manik to figure out for herself the solution to her problem. She hates to have Manik witness her inner struggles, her weakness, her turmoil. She, his star, cannot be seen to be floundering and floundering she does when she is forced to play music. She was beginning to warm up to him in the housekeeping room but later when she attempted to regain her music interest by playing Manik's guitar, those dreadful memories returned and she withdrew into her shell again. Manik's patronisation only made things worse as she felt his presence is only making things worse.
With Manik and Ams both pushing her into the music she is trying to avoid, her annoyance is only growing.
Nandini needs to accept the fact that she does not need to always appear strong and in control. She needs to accept that it is OK to show her vulnerable side to the man she loves and to accept his help in finding what she has lost. Yes, getting back to music may bring back bad memories but she needs to let them flow out instead of bottling them all up. It is only through a volcanic eruption of all her bottled up emotions, fears and insecurities that she will have her catharsis.
