"I will choose my friends. Because I need to protect them...like you protect me. You're my shining star."
Aa tujhe inn baahon mein bhar ke aur bhi kar loon main kareeb
Tu juda ho toh age hain aata jaata har pal ajeeb
Iss jahaan mein hai aur na hoga mujhasa koi khushnaseeb
Tune mujhako dil diya hai main hoon tere sabase kareeb
Manik Malhotra. This man. Once upon a time he lived his life like a King. Life and people were his territory and this man, always, completely, entirely, ruled it. He reigned, he controlled, he protected, he used, he scared but he, the man of means and power, never ever gave anybody else that power.
He'd built a cage around him. Once hurt, once beaten, once harmed, once bloodied, once torn apart, he placed barriers between himself and the world that lived outside. You could see him but you could never touch him. You could like him, you could fear him, but you could never go near. If you tried, he'd burn you hard and fast.
And then she came. With her smile and with her fireflies. A small little girl who didn't even reach his shoulders. Who could've ever thought?
But miracles happened.
Magic did, too.
Or maybe, or maybe, it wasn't a miracle.
It was inevitable.
It was fate.
It was his fate.
She was his fate.
That little firefly pushed pass his barriers and demanded, she roared and she claimed and she demanded. Give it to me. All of you. everything. Not a part to be left, not a memory to be hidden. I want it, I want all of you. The good and the bad. Give me your worse, give me your best, give me your life, give me your past, and give me your future.
But he couldn't do it. It had taken him years, his armors were built of steel. To give someone that power over you? To open yourself to vulnerability? To let someone have the ultimate power to crush you? To step back and take an equal? To be open to wounds and pain and...and life?
But she didn't ask him. She took it from him and she proved to him.
She made him smile. She made him care. She made him live. She made him love.
Sometimes, you are so filled with love, so full of it, that you don't even realize that it's breathing through your lungs, it's coming out in your breathes, it's beating in your heart, it fills your eyes when she isn't near, it breaks you when she wouldn't be there.
Sometimes, love is so beyond your capabilities of loving, it possesses you. It doesn't need vocalizing. It bleeds in your actions and your words.
And, it bled from his soul, it bled in his words, it bled from his eyes, it stormed them, it stopped her from leaving. It shone so hard and so bright.
The man who found his solace in stars. Stars who were millions of miles away from him, stars who could never be touched, never be blemished, never be hurt, never be taken from him, stars whose light companied him in the darkest of nights, stars who gave him hope, his sanity, who filled him with life, stars, who were his most loved possession, the only and only one, to whom he looked up. He made her his stars.
He didn't just tell her you protect me.
He tore apart his barriers and showed her the wounded heart that was capable and ready to love again.
He tore apart his cage and showed her the man who nobody could've ever ever touched because he never gave anyone the power.
He showed her the man who reigned like a King but was lonely like a beggar.
He got on his knees, bent his head low, lowered his guards, and gave to her what nobody ever ever could've gotten.
What he'd vowed to never give.
The power over him. The power over Manik Malhotra.
He gave it to her in a heartbeat in that moment. For she is, his shining star, she'll protect him. Not from the world, she'll protect him from his ownself. She'll protect him from the darkness that resides inside him, whom he battles every day. She'll protect him, just because...just because, he's hers to protect. He belongs to her. She owns him.
To the world, he's Manik Malhotra the invincible. They see him from far and gush, and love, and want him.
But only she knows the man who lives inside. The man no girl can ever handle or understand in his complex entirety.
The man who's not easy to be with.
The man who can hurt you.
And that is the man she loves.
And that's why he belongs to her, and only and only her.
He'll protect her too, he'll die for her, he'll kill for her, he'll slay himself for her, he'll love her like nobody has ever done, he'll melt for her, he'll smile for her, he'll bend for her, he'll hurt for her, he'll laugh for her, and he will, this man, so scared and hesitant, he will love for her.
With her.
Like nobody's ever done.
He won't let the fireflies ever go away.
He won't let the world harm her.
And she won't.
She won't let him harm his ownself.
It's not the Monster she's afraid of. It's the man who lives inside. That man who's so vulnerable, so selfless, so lost, so in need and that is the man she'll protect. She'll protect him from his ownself.
And if that's not love then what is?
To give someone the ultimate power over you. if that's not love then what is?
Is love only love when it vocalizes?
Or is it love when it bleeds from your soul?
When you wrap your arms around someone and hold them like they're life?
Is that not love?
Simply loving. Is that not love?
If he doesn't love her more than himself then I don't know what love is.
Because, Manik Malhotra, the man of steel, laid low and gifted her the most precious gift he could've ever given her.
He gave her himself. He gave her complete and utter control.
He became hers.
If that's not love then what is?
