when i was in undergrad, like 5 yrs back, we used to do panel discussion on sexuality and the ruling down of the law that criminalizes homosexuality, it was part of spreading awareness , but there were interest from young crowd but not overwhelming participation from say crowd of 18-25 yrs, ppl from different parts of india came to some of the big events, the real life stories or rather i shd call them horror stories was a harsh reality check to me personally, i dont think the youth is that aware of the hardships ppl with diff sexuality face unless they know of someone close, indian culture still is all hush hush about what sexuality even means, if any word contains "sex" its banned from any discussion, lack of awareness
And the double-standard and hypocrisy - It is not as if there aren't people who want respect given to the LGBT community on at least a human level. We all have our differences, but the basic human etiquette and respect which should be given to fellow humans doesn't exist either.
There wil be people who I see everyday, sit in class with, attend their classes and eat lunch with -- everyone wants to appear cool and liberal -- oh it is none of my business, live your life however you want to -- but in the end, make them stand in front of a gay couple and the way they react is hilarious ...
And the misconceptions --- Do you know hoe many people dont understand the difference between homosexuality and tran-sexuality.
People of the LGBT community are discussed as some alien species -- meant to be discussed and debated over from far afar but get to close to one and the awkwardness and absurdity.🥱
