"Being apart we extinguish ourselves"

In my final trimester, I was wolfing down food and trashy romance with equal fervour and came across a book called " Forbidden". I had just finished reading "Twilight" (I was heavily pregnant so blame it on the hormones) and my unsuspecting hubby who was already terrified of my mood swings decided to "gift" me this book. I'm not going to discuss this story because frankly it scared me but there was this line which came back to me whilst watching the "goodbye hug".

"Being together, we harm nobody; being apart, we extinguish ourselves."

The story up until last week was edgy, decadent and tumultuous, which made it an engaging watch. I know there have been numerous posts regarding the necessity of a separation track for the growth of the characters in the story. And therein lies the problem...is separation essential to KYY story or just for Manik and Nandu?

Let's dissect this further...
I'm prepared to give this a chance if they are exploring the sexuality of Cabir, Mukthi's depression, Dhruvs ailment, Alyas insecurities, Manik's God complex, Nandu's naivete, Harshad's revenge and Navya's disintegration.

If MaNan's separation is the catalyst to serve a larger chemical reaction then I'm all for it but if it gets trivialised as a triangle or there are cheap tricks involved to cater to fandoms then it's truly disappointing.

Manik and Nandu am sure will realise that they are doing nobody a favour by being apart and frankly am not worried about that. It's the jarring white noise in the form of cop outs that has disheartened me the past week.

Couldn't agree more Doc! 👍🏼

In a way, I'm glad that it's not some done-to-death 'misunderstanding' that was the reason for the separation - something that we've been fed for sooo long!

'Sacrifice' is cliche, yes, but the more I see it from different POV's, I cannot help but feel that there's more to it than what meets the eye. I'm guessing all of the sub-plots you've pointed out will play out surrounding this very track.

Keeping my faith in the CV's till then. 😆

P.S- 'Twilight' is my 2nd love (after 'Harry Potter'). 😳

LOL.. 'Forbidden' really? I never thought I'd come across someone who'd actually own up to reading that one..😆 Personally I could never bring myself to finishing it so I still don't know how it ends😕.. Anyway, now I just feel doubly blessed to know you😳

As for the sacrifice track, for me the angst of it all has been mitigated by my constantly keeping my eye on the bigger picture.. the way I see it, the MaNan separation is just incidental.. it is the Fab5 (and especially ManRuv) parting of the ways that is CRUCIAL for any growth at all to take place..

The USP of MaNan's equation has always been their ability to be communicate honestly with each other.. so they probably would've weathered all storms and emerged stronger regardless of this 'forced' parting..
But Manik himself is a divided individual.. he has dual aspects to his personality and conflicting loyalties which have kept him balancing on the razor's edge for a while now.. the only way for him to integrate himself at this point would be to free him of all his assumed responsibilities and lead him to discover his own value..
A realigning of priorities is an absolute necessity for all the other Fab5 members also anyway and has been a long time coming.. I (in my most optimistic moments) like to believe that this track is a means to that desirable end..

A little melodrama in the interim is merely a consequence of this being an Indian TV show and having to make the storyline a bit more relatable to the majority audience.. something I'm completely willing to endure (the leads are GORGEOUS after all)😈

Doc, great to see your post 👍🏼

Yes the crucial point of FAB 5 growth will be when they break away from eachother. This Manan separation was preplanned for Dhruv's infatuation and for Manik who keeps playing God. Manik has to go through this, he has finally found happiness just for himself and before he could fully experience it he pays the father figure, the selfless, not caring about himself but about others, especially Dhruv. In the longterm this will not help Dhruv nor Him, because he cannot keep protecting and mollycooding him at the expense on his own. You can only support others if you are strong enough yourself and right now, Manik HAS weakened himself by pushing Nandini away. Dhruv HAS to branch out himself, he has to think for himself, he can't keep running to people for help or waiting for their instruction.

Yes this Manan separation is for Manik to realise firstly how his impulsiveness can get him and others into trouble and secondly, how Dhruv is totally dependent on him which needs to stop.

Agree. As long as character development is focused heavily upon, separation track is a blessing.

Shelly I started watching the serial in the first place because all the characters were so screwed up and REAL. Right in the beginning the bullying set the stage and then the unfurling, unraveling, undoing was what glued us to these "faulty towers".its a bonus that the lead romantic pair are dishy and can act!
I'm waiting to see how all the dots are connected with MaNan's separation track and boy I want them connected.

I went into labour 2 hrs after finishing Forbidden, 13 hrs of bloody labour pains...so well haven't forgiven hubby for the book or the labour pains..

@chetu well said about Manik . I think if this separation allows for some characterisation clarity wrt Dhruv,I welcome it. I know I've made fun of the attacks but I'm curious and I don't want it to evoke sympathy for dhruvs character. I want it to be crucial to the storyline and this whole thing about protecting dhruvs heart is so irrelevant. I want him to come undone, get pushed, break and then learn to put himself together. That's the kind of angst I want to watch.
