Yeh Desh Hai Mera Disclaimer: The beginning of the tale might seem to be inspired from a true incident, but as it proceeds, it is a complete work of fiction. Introduction: Due to examinations I won't be able to post the entire story right now, so bear with me. The Anecdote would be written ASAP. |Prologue| A tear escaped her eyes as she looked at him. The shells of the three bullets lying by and the region crowded by the Officers and the Civilians. She heard someone say that an army officer was the culprit, but she didn't move an inch, instead chose to sit near her brother, still denying to believe that he would never speak to her again,denying her greatest loss, denying that she had lost her only guardian. Grabbing his shoulders, she pulled him towards her chest and kept talking to him as if she was talking to a five-year old boy. His squirrel eyes were lifeless today. His limbs were cold, his tender heart beat no more. Rishab, a twelve year old schoolboy whose life had only two pages, namely his sister and his dream to make his country proud. "He is dead Nandini, he has been shot. Are you listening to me?" her friends shook her, but she didn't reciprocate. She held her brother tight, not letting him go. She had nurtured him, taught him alphabets and numbers, taught him to dream and today he was here, lying in the pool of blood.One of the officers approached him and tried to pull him away from her. "This is a murder case and we have to investigate". As he pulled Rishab away, she finally she broke out of her trance , "He has been murdered by The Army, who flaunt badges saying that the country is their responsibility. Is this their duty? Is this how they are supposed to work for the country? By snatching away a young boy's life for their own pleasure. Is this what India was visioned to become after so many decades of independence? Murdering the innocents for absolutely no reason, that too by the Army officers, who are supposed to protect us citizens from terrorists. Today I find no difference between a soldier and a terrorist." She broke down and then replied he "Does he, your brother not know the rules of the Cantonment? Civilians aren't allowed inside, nor are they allowed to break any rule? He has been shot for some reason, I am certain, so stop blaming us. We don't take away lives for pleasure, get that clear. " "And so he has been murdered? For plucking petty almonds when he was asked not too? I never knew soldiers had the right to do so...Thank you for telling me by shooting my brother without a warning. I shall be grateful to you, the Army and the nation for my loss...A very Happy Independence Day Mr..." She looked at the badge which was pinned near his chest, wiped it with her fingers still wet with the blood which had oozed out from her brother's chest where the bullet had pierced deep snatching her brother away from her forever and read aloud, "Captain Dhruv Pratap Singh. You will know what it feels to lose the person whom you live for. I wish you experience that day someday, and then you will know how I feel. But wait, I am not cursing you as I know one thing. I know that this Independence Day will change your lives and break you as much as it has broken me...Mark my word." . . . . . . . . . |
