Chapter 2: "Looking Away"

"Mans...get up." Nandini whispered, leaning in to plan a kiss on Manik's forehead.

"Mmm, why do you torture me like this Nandi." Manik said as he reached up to cup Nandini's face.

Placing his palm on Nandini's cheek, Manik could feel her quivering with his touch.

"Kyun?" He asked with the utmost concern in his eyes.

"Why what?" Nandini responded, knowing full well what Manik was asking.

"Nandi, come on. Be serious. You know I don't like playing games. Especially where our relationship is concerned."

Nandini knew if there was anything in life that Manik was serious about, it was his Fab 5, and their budding relationship. She wanted to do nothing that would mess either of those up. However she knew she had hardly partially made a mess of the first one, and was well on her way to messing up the second as well.

"Manik...I don't know..." Nandini said, falling at loss for words suddenly.

"Nandini. You're looking away from me. Babes, I know you well enough by now. Just tell me. I will never judge you. You know that." Manik wanted her to understand that their relationship was not a place for secrets.

While he had only ever been in one other relationship in all 21 of his years, being open was something he knew was necessary."

Looking at Manik's expectant expression, Nandini searched for words to explain her plight.

"...Manik...I don't...want to lose you."

"And who says you're losing me? Where is this coming from?"

Nandini looked away. Not wanting to take the conversation any further at the risk of ruining something that defined Manik's very existence.

Manik shot up from Nandini's lap and brought his body to the ground, resting at her feet. Folding her hands into his, Manik brought Nandini's fingers to his lips.

The tears spilled from Nandini's eyes, as Manik gently kissed her fingers.

Never had Nandini thought the horrible Manik Malhotra, who has made her entry to S.P.A.C.E. Academy a living hell, would be sitting here today, at her feet, looking for answers, to save their relationship.

"Nandi. Stop it. You know I can't see you cry. You're killing me by not telling me what is wrong. How am I supposed to find a solution to a problem that I did not even know existed?" Manik felt helpless.

Nandini could not hold it in any longer.

"Mans, I can't do this." Nandini finally said.

"...Do...what...?" Manik asked, even though he did not want Nandini to continue.

Manik closed his eyes as Nandini opened her mouth to speak.

"Us."
