Tell us about hosting 9X's Yeh Hai Jalwa?
I'm hosting a reality show for the first time and I'm excited about it. There was a little bit of anxiety, but after doing two episodes, it's fun.
What made you go for it?
When the channel narrated the concept, I really liked the format. The idea of having people from different walks of life participating on a platform shared by their favourite stars was unique. That the audience is going to decide on the winners is the other unique aspect.
Are we going to see you more often as a hostess?
Wait and watch.
How do you think Yeh Hai Jalwa is going to stand out among other reality shows?
The format. People from various walks of life can share a platform with the known faces of Indian television, judges are absent and audience is given the power to judge and decide.
How about co-hosting the show with Smriti Irani?
People have liked watching us together in the past. After a long time we are sharing the screen-space and it's fun hosting the show with her. This is something I look forward to.
Don't you think there's constant pressure to outperform each other?
No.
What do you think of Smriti as hostess?
She is very good with her job.
Who is your favourite host/ hostess? Why?
Hussain and Mini Mathur, because of their tremendous energy levels. Their interaction with participants and judges and their overall presentation are good.
Is sex appeal important for a hostess?
No comment.
Who is designing your wardrobe?
Pankaj Arora.
What is the worst thing to say on camera?
To be contemptuous of any participant.
Smriti Irani
Tell us about your new role as hostess?
This is the first time I'm hosting a dance reality show. I've hosted a talk show about three years back. I'm co-hosting this show with Sakshi and in fact I'm working with several of my old colleagues with whom I have worked for almost eight years. That's why this show is special to me; it's like a homecoming.
What made you go for it?
Every year, I try to do some project which is unique, something which I've never done before. This year Yeh Hai Jalwa is like that.
Are we going to see you more frequently as a hostess?
I am seen as a very serious person and I get to enjoy here; it brings forth my humorous side.
How do you think Yeh Hai Jalwa is going to stand out among other reality shows?
Firstly there aren't any judges and secondly audience is the deciding factor. Celebrities appear on the show but not as deciding factors. Input of the audience brings in the drama element. It hasn't got the repeated formula of judges. In the elimination rounds it's the audience who know the result before us.
How about co-hosting the show with Sakshi Tanwar?
We have a long-standing association, which is close to six years. We compliment each other.
Don't you think there would be a constant pressure to outperform each other?
No.
What do you think of her as a hostess?
She is gracious and patient.
Who is your favourite TV host/ hostess?
Amitabh Bachchan. He encompassed television in Kaun Banega Crorepati which was the mother of all reality shows. He came with the baggage of a legend but he defined TV in his own way.
Is sex appeal important for a hostess?
I don't know. I don't have any.
Who's designing your wardrobe? What's in it?
Some designer who has been assigned by the production house. I'm not into clothes and hair. I leave it to the experts.
Nothing, the best thing in front of a camera is to be your self.
