Chapter - 3
Gungun got hyper after seeing Anubhav, who was unknown for her near her, so Dr. Singh injected her with sedative and now she was sleeping peacefully, unaware of the things happening arround her. After listening to Dr. Singh's words, "Kya? Partial Amnesia?" asked a dismayed Garima. "Tabhi mai sochu ki Gungun mujhe mai US se kab aayi yeh baat kyu puch rahi thi. Iska matlab use inn dino jo kuch bhi hua, mera US se wapas lautna, uski shaadi related saari baatein woh sab bhool chuki hai, right doctor?", asked a flabbergasted Maya. Dr. Singh nodded in a "Yes". Maya never really cared about Gungun, her daughter, in these 12 years. She left Gungun when she was a 9 years old child and never really regretted for her action because she has always been a career oriented woman. Career is everything for her, even more then her own daughter! Also add to it, the lifestyle and freedom she enjoyed in the US, she could have never got it in India. That's why when she got an offer letter from US, she didn't even take a second to accept it and leave her family and a very young Gungun behind here in India. In these 12 years she only came twice to visit her and calls her only once in a year, on her Birthday. Not that she cared, but just as a formality of being her "Mom". But Gungun didn't really appreciated her efforts. Everytime she called her, she would face Gungun's wrath from the opposite side for leaving her and not caring about her. And why won't she? She really didn't care for her and was always inclined towards money, that was the reason she broke her marriage with the Kulshreshthas right? The Kulshreshthas weren't rich enough that's why she ignored their love for her daughter and it was only because because of her and Aakriti that the Kulshreshthas began to hate Gungun and today she's in this condition. But at the same time she felt annoyed at them. Didn't they know Gungun before they knew her? Didn't they claim to love her? Then why didn't they trust Gungun and believed her instead? But then she realized she was eqally to be blamed for the scenario. How much Gungun had started to accept her as her mother again and how much she had started to trust her but she broke her daughter's innocent heart and trust, yet again. And after introspecting everything, when she saw her daughter, her Gungun, laying on the hospital bed with a bandaged head and forgotten memories of a section of her life, Maya felt like she may have become a successful doctor, but she failed as a Mother! She failed her Gungun! And this realization hit her hard! And unknowingly, a drop of tear rolled down her cheek.
On the other side, it was hard to digest for Anubhav that Gungun has forgotten him. It means she have forgotten his family too and each and every memory she had with them. He cried at his fate! It was too much for him to take, so he ran out of Gungun's cabin crying. The Kulshreshthas were waiting for their chance to meet Gungun when they noticed Anubhav. They were confused with his behaviour. Why did he ran out of Gungun's cabin that too crying? Is everything okay? Is Gungun okay? Fear crept inside their hearts. "Kya hua Anu tu aise ro kyu raha hai? Andar sab thik hai na?", Charu asked. That's it. He broke down in his Bade Papa's arms. "Bade Papa Gungun..." Anubahv started. "Kya hua Gungun ko?", asked his mother. "Gungun ki yaaddasht chali gayi hai Bade Papa. Woh mujhe, hum sab ko bhool chuki hai", he sobbed. This sudden piece of information shook the Kulshreshthas from the core. No this can't happen. God can't be this cruel towards them. They didn't even get a chance to apologize for their behaviour towards her. "Aaj humari hi galti ki saza bechari Gungun bhugat rahi hai aur ab toh paristhiti aisi ho gayi hai ki bechari bacchi se maafi mangne tak ka mauka nahi mila humein", grieved a devastated Bade Papa. For Golu Chachu it was hard for him to believe that his "angel" Gungun doesn't remember him now. It was a heart breaking news for him. No this wasn't the plan he had made with her, he thought. But maybe God had some other plan. Maybe God wanted his daughter Gungun, whom he loved and treated exactly like his own daughter Chavi, wanted her to forget the bad memories that his family gave her, for sometime. The conditions of the youngsters weren't less either. Maybe God wanted to teach them a lesson in this way. After all you value a thing only when you loose it. And Gungun was a gem, whom they lost, because of their own mistakes, they thought.
On the other side the scene shifted to the Saxena house. Aakriti was in her room, siting in front of the mirror, almost decked up as a bride. She was so happy today. Finally she was going to be Mrs. Anubhav Kulshreshtha, wife of the Scientist of The Year, Anubhav Kulshreshtha. Finally she succeded in her mission to marry Anubhav! What a fool he was. In fact his whole family was a package of fools, except Golu chachu, she thought. Except Golu Chachu, every one fell under her tricks of being a 'sweet, well mannered and cultured girl'. But she felt relaxed because Golu Chachu wasn't a threat to her when everyone else in the family was by her side. And how easily they replaced Gungun with her as Anubhav's bride after that party incident. All thanks to her so called Mami. In fact her Mami was a fool too! "Kaise maine unhe apni jaal mein fasayi aur unse jhoot boli ki mai Anubhav sir ko date kar rahi thi aur mai unse pyaar karti hu aur unhone jhat se meri baaton par vishwas bhi kar li, bina koi cross check kiye, aur chale gaye Gungun se Anubhav sir ki shaadi tudwane. Mami aap bhi na bilkul dumb hai", laughed Aakriti. "Mai Anubhav sir se koi pyaar vyaar nahi karti, unke liye toh mere mann mein junoon sa savaar hai. Jo bhi mere aur Anubhav sir k beech mein aayega, mai use humare raaste se hata dungi, thik waise hi jaise maine meri pyaari si bholi si behen Gungun ko hatayi. Bechari Gungun, ab toh Kulshreshthas uski naam tak nahi lete, poor girl", she smirked. Then she suddenly thought of calling her Mami to know whether she was attending her wedding or not? She had a flashback of how she didn't invite her Mom, Uncle and Gungun at her wedding. But she definitely did call Gungun to give her the happy news of her wedding with Anubhav because she wanted to hurt Gungun. She always hated her for snatching everything from her. First her mom and then her first love, Anubhav. So she needed to torture Gungun with the news that how easily the Kulshreshthas and Anubhav replaced her with Aakriti. She absolutely enjoyed the shock that Gungun felt at the other side. She could guess it with her response. Initially Gungun's voice sounded chirpy but as soon as she heard Anubhav's name as the groom's name, she became quiet and replied only in monosyllables. Also she had strictly warned her and her family not to attend her wedding by giving excuse that the Kulshreshthas wouldn't like them attending the wedding and she couldn't go against her sasural. Afterall, she can't let them to spoil her wedding for which had to plan so much! She thought. And it wasn't a difficult task for her to convince her traditional sasural too because they themselves didn't want to invite them. So she had only invited her Mami. She knew her Mami wasn't staying at the Bhatnagar Mansion. She did speak with her a few more times and met her once too at her institute's cafeteria, that's when she invited her to her wedding. She took her phone and dailed Maya's number. But no one picked up at the opposite end. "Shayad woh busy honge kahi pe. Waise bhi woh aaye naa aaye tuje kya fadak parta hai? Tu apni shaadi pe focus kar" she said to herself.
Maya was sitting by Gungun's bedside, Garima went back to the waiting Kulshreshthas outside and Dr. Riddhesh went to do some formalities when her phone rang. 'Aakriti', the screen showed. Maya deliberately ignored the call. She knew today was her wedding with Anubhav and she was invited to attend it too. But she had already decided not to attend her wedding, the day itself when she was invited by Aakriti. That was the day she got to know that she had been played by her too. What a cunning girl, she thought. She flashbacked that day in her mind.
Maya was busy chatting with her friend Kamini when she received Aakriti's message to visit her at her institute's cafeteria becaused she wanted to talk something important. Initially she was reluctant because of Anubhav's presence but when Aakriti assured her that Anubhav won't be present there as he took a leave that day, she readily agreed. So as per the message, Maya reached The National Institute of Science at 5 P.M and went towards the cafeteria. She waited for Aakiti to arrive. She wondered what important talk she had with her? Then she noticed Aakriti entering the cafe and approaching her. "Hi Mami!", Aakriti greeted. "Hello Aakriti beta!", Maya greeted back. "Toh batao kya baat karni hai tumhe mujhse jis k liye tumne mujhe yaha bulayi?" asked Maya. "Mami thoda toh sabar karo, jo news mai aapko dene ja rahi hu, woh sunke aap bohot khush ho jayengi." Saying so Aakriti took out a card from her bag. It was a wedding card. So it was Aakriti's wedding card. Does that mean the Kulshreshthas agreed for her wedding with Anubhav, wondered Maya. Aakriti handed the card to Maya. 'Aakriti weds Anubhav' was written at the top of the card. Seeing the card Maya's face broke into a smile. "Wow iska matlab humara plan sucessful ho gaya, tumhari aur Anubhav ki shaadi ho rahi hai!", exclaimed an overexcited Maya. "Dheere boliye Mami sab humein dekh rahe hai", said a visibly embarrassed Aakriti. "Arre tumne news hi itni acchi di hai ki mujhse control nahi hua. Iska matlab unn middle class Kulshreshthas se meri beti ki peecha chuta aur tumhe bhi tumhara pyaar, Anubhav mil gaya!" Maya said. Aakriti replied "Ji haa Mami aur aapko meri shaadi mein aana hai", requested Aakriti. "But beta mai waha kaise? Tumhare sasural walon ko mera presence pasand nahi hoga", Maya objected. "Mami aapko uski tension lene ki zaroorat nahi hai. Woh aap mujhpe chhod dijiye. Jaise maine unko humari shaadi k liye manayi hai, waise hi mana lungi mai unhe", said Aakriti. "Kya tumne apni mom ko invite ki hai apni wedding mein?", Maya asked Aakriti. "Are you mad? Maine Bhatnagar Mansion se kisi ko bhi nahi bulayi hai lekin haa maine Gungun ko call karke yeh khush khabri zaroor di thi", giggled Aakriti. "Chalo thik hai phir. Ab mai chalti hu", smiled Maya and stood up. "Arre Mami rukiye na, aap pehli baar meri insititute aayi hai toh meri taraf se ek treat toh banti hai. After all, aap hi ki madat se meri shaadi Anubhav sir se hone ja rahi hai", blushed Aakriti. Maya laughed hearing her and agreed for the treat. They called the waiter and put their orders. While waiting for their orders to arrive, they were joined by Akriti's colleagues and she introduced Maya to them. Suddenly a peon arrived and said that Aakriti was immediately called by the Dean for something important. "Aap log baithiye mai aabhi aati hu", saying so Aakriti left the place. "Aakriti kitni lucky hai na ki use Anubhav sir jaise life partner mil rahi hai", Maya heard one of Aakriti's friend saying. She fake smiled at the comment. "Haa yaar but Anubhav sir k liye bohot bura lag raha hai mujhe. Maine suna hai ki unki pehle shaadi jis ladki se tay hua tha woh kuch misundertanding ki wajah se toot gaya", replied another making Maya uncomfortable. So to change the topic Maya asked them, "Toh Aakriti aur Anubahav ek dusre ko kab se date kar rahe the?" Hearing Maya's question they gave each other a bewildered look. "Aunty aap yeh kya bol rahi hai? Anubhav sir aur woh bhi date? Kabhi nahi! Aapko zaroor koi galat fehmi hui hai", said one. "Haa aunty Anubhav sir ne aaj tak ek bhi ladki ko date nahi kiya hai. Aur Aakriti? Use toh unhone humesha se hi apne junior k roop mein dekha hai aur kuch nahi. Woh toh humesha se Aakriti hi thi jiske dil mein sir k liye feelings thi. Jab Aakriti ko sir ki shaadi tay hone ki baat pata chali woh bohot ajeeb behave karne lagi. Usne toh sir ko propose tak kar diya tha. Haa kya naam tha uss ladki ka? Gungun. Haa usne toh sir se yeh bhi kaha tha ki Gungun Anubhav sir jo deserve nahi karti hai aur woh uss shaadi ko tod de. Woh toh tab Anubhav sir ne mana kar diya tha uski proposal. Isliye toh hum log abhi bhi shocked hai ki sir ne achanak se Aakriti se shaadi karne k liye kaise maan gaye woh bhi thik unke shaadi tootne k baad, jab ki unhone khud use pehle reject kiya tha", another friend of Aakriti said. "Accha aunty ab humein chalna chahiye, bye Aunty". Aakriti's colleagues bade Maya a goodbye and left the cafe. Maya was still processing the informations she had just received. It means Aakriti lied to her about Anubhav and herself! She fooled her. Aakriti too had returned by this time and Maya gave an excuse so that Aakriti won't be able to guess that her truth was out and left the cafe. No, she is not going to attend her wedding and that's final, but that girl doesn't need to know that now, Maya decided.
Coming back to the present Maya realized that what a mess she created and for Gungun's sake she will now correct everything that she spoiled and for that she needs to talk and genuinely apologize to Anubhav and his family because she has realized now that how much they loved her daughter and if she could get a second chance, they too deserved a second chance. Gungun needed both her family at the moment. Yes maybe Gungun doesn't remember the Kulshreshthas now but she needs to mend her ways so as to help Gungun regain her lost memory. Today she realized how wrong she was to judge anyone with their monetary status. She looked at her daughter. The sedative that was Gungun injected with, she was not going to wake up for the next 3 hours and it was more than enough for her to set things right. She carefully caressed Gungun's bandaged forehead so that she doesn't get hurt or get disturbed and went outside Gungun's cabin to meet the Kulshreshthas. She went outside and saw that each and every members of the Kulshreshtha family were waiting outside. They could have left after knowing that Gungun doesn't remember them now, but still they didn't and this made Maya smile. She was very wrong to judge this beautiful family. Gungun used to always praise about them and now she realized how much correct she was. Riddhesh and Garima were also present there. So she went towards them and said in a very calm voice, "Aap log chinta mat kijiye, Gungun abhi bilkul thik hai. Woh medication ki wajah se so rahi hai abhi." The Kulshreshthas were shockingly surprised with her tone. It wasn't like the way she had talked to them earlier in that day. So what to her happened now? Is it another of her trick to insult them, they thought. Maya noticed the shock in their face and replied, "Mujhe pata hai aap log kya soch rahe honge? Yehi na ki jo lady aaj subha hi aap logo se itni badtameezi se baat kar rahi thi. Jis lady ne aap logo ki uss din itni insult ki, woh abhi itni sweetly kaise behave kar rahi hai, right? Mai batati hu kaise. Jab mai Gungun k paas baithi thi aur uski taraf dekhi toh mujhe realize hua ki mai humesha se hi galat thi. Humesha se. Mai yeh nahi kahungi ki meri career ko choose karna galat decision tha. But career k liye apni family aur bacchi ko chhodna meri galti thi. Mai chahti toh mujhe yaha India mein hi itni acchi offer mil sakti thi lekin mai laalchi ban gayi thi, selfish ban gayi thi. Isliye mai apni 9 saal ki choti bacchi ko chhod k chali gayi. Anubhav beta tum sahi kehte ho, family k upar kuch nahi. Aur yeh baat mai aaj realize kar rahi hu. Jab mujhe Riddhesh ka call aaya ki usne Gungun ki shaadi fix kiya hai toh mujhe laga ki woh kisi rich aur high staus wale family mein hi uski shaadi fix ki hai kyuki mere liye humsha se hi money aur status hi sab kuch raha hai. But India aake jab mujhe iska opposite hota hua nazar aaya toh maine aap logo ko pehli mulakat mein hi beizzati ki. Tab mujhe Gungun ne warn ki thi ki mai aap logo se badtameezi na karu aur woh kitna pyaar karti hai aap logo se." Hearing Maya everyone had tears in their eyes. Maya continued, "Par mujhse yeh bilkul tolerate nahi ho rahi thi ki meri beti mujhe chhod k apne hone wale in-laws ko itna pyaar karti hai. Jo jagah meri thi usne woh Sunanda ji, Sargam ji, Divya ji aur Kiran ji ko de di thi. Meri ego hurt hui thi uss din. Lekin mai yeh bhool gayi thi ki jo jagah mai maang rahi thi Gungun se uss k liye maine hi kabhi koi efforts nahi ki. Jab Gungun ko meri sabse zyada zaroorat thi tab mai nahi thi uske paas. Uske Papa aur Bua ne use bohot pyaar diya. Mere hisse ka bhi pyaar diya but fir bhi ek Maa ka pyaar ek Maa hi de sakti hai. Isliye toh woh bechari har kisi ko apni friend bana leti hai aur party karti hai apni dard ko bhulane k liye, jo use bachpan mein maine diya hai. Jab mai Gungun k muh se aap logo k liye taarif sunti thi, meri ego hurt hoti thi. Mujhe lagta tha ki aap jaise log meri high class beti ko deserve nahi karte. Tab maine decide kiya ki mai ek acchi Maa banne ki natak karungi Gungun k samne aur fir uske idea k bina mai aap logo ko dobara insult karungi taki aap log yeh shaadi tod de. Lekin mujhe nahi pata tha ki aap logo ka Gungun k upar barosa itna kamzor hoga. Aaj mai aap logo se puchna chahti hu ki aap log toh Gungun ko bohot pehle se jante the, mujhe janne se bhi bohot pehle, use pyaar karne ki daawa bhi karte hai, toh kya aap logo ko zara sa bhi doubt nahi hua uske upar ki kya woh aisa kaise kar sakti hai? Haa I know maine hi aap logo ko instigate kiya tha shaadi todne k liye jiska faida Aakriti ne uthayi kyuki yehi hum dono ki plan thi. Lekin kya aap logo ko kabhi bhi doubt nahi hua ki kya Gungun sach mein aisi giri hui harkat kar sakti hai? Aap logo mein se kisi ne uspe bharosa nahi kiya except Chanchal ji. Toh aaj agar Gungun ki iss halat k liye mai responsible hu toh aap log bhi equally responsible hai Charu ji. Jo maine aap logo k saath party wale din ki uski shayad koi maafi nahi hai. Meri khud ki beti ne mujhe maaf nahi ki hai iske liye aur ghar se bhi nikaal di hai. Shayad aap log mujhpe wapas se trust nahi kar sakte hai aur ismein aap logo ki koi galti bhi nahi hai kyuki maine hi woh mauka nahi chhoda abhi lekin believe me mujhe apni galtiyon ka ehsaas ho chuki hai aur mai dil se aap logo se maafi maangti hu aaj tak jitni bhi galtiya maine ki hai aap logo k saath" saying so she folded her hands infront of Anubhav and his family and broke down. Charu began, "Maya ji jo apamaan aapne humare parivaar ko kiya hai uske liye pata nahi hum aapko kabhi maaf kar pyenge ya nahi lekin yeh baat sach hai ki Gungun pe bharosa naa karna humari galti thi. Doctor sahab aaye bhi the humein yeh batane k liye ki aapki saazish mein Gungun ka koi haath nahi hai lekin hum hi krodh mein andhe ho chuke the. Upar se Aakriti bhi humein Gungun k khilaaf itni uksati gayi ki humein aur kuch nahi dikha. Jo humara chota bhai Golu ko dikha, woh hum mein se kisi ko nahi dikha, jiske liye hum log aaj bhi khud ko dosh rahe hai. Dekha jaye toh aaj Gungun ki yeh halat hum sab ki wajah se hua hai. Gungun k liye inn dino koi bure sapne se kam nahi raha hoga shayad isiliye upar wale ne uski inn dino ki saari yaaddasht hi cheen li hai."
"Mujhe aap logo se ek aur baat bhi share karni thi Aakriti k bare mein. Dekhiye mujhe pata hai ki aaj Anubhav aur Aakriti ki shaadi hai." Hearing Maya the Kulshreshthas suddenly remembered about the wedding. Only 2.5 hours were left. Not that they wanted the wedding to happen, they obviously didn't. But they were confused what to do and that's when they got another shocking piece of information from Maya. Maya revealed everything to them about Aakriti and how she too got cheated to some extent by her. Everyone were reluctant to believe her when she showed them the video proof of Aakriti's colleagues and her conversation of that day. She had secretly shot the video when her friends were revealing everything to her. Anubhhav immediately recognized his juniors. He was furious after watching the video. What a lair she is, he thought! Garima felt ashamed yet again to even call her as her daughter. Riddhesh was shocked too. And the Kulshreshthas were shocked that she's totally the opposite of how she portrayed herself in front of them. Maya said, "Ab toh mai bhi nahi chahti ki Anubhav ki shaadi Aakriti se ho. Agar aap log mujhpar thodi der k liye trust karenge toh mere paas ek plan hai." The Kulshreshthas decided to trust Maya one last time because, this time she felt genuine, unlike the previous time. She revealed her plan to everyone. "Idea bura nahi hai lekin are you sure yeh idea kaam karega?", asked Anubhav. "Thoda risky hai, samay bhi zyada nahi hai, but agar hum saath milkar kaam karenge toh yeh idea bilkul kaam karega Anu", Golu said. Sargam added, "Thik hai hum sab taiyyar hai Maya ji." She couldn't let her son marry that cheater. "Thanku so much mujhe ek last chance dene k liye aur mujhpe trust karne k liye. I promise iss baar mai aap logo ki trust nahi todne dungi", smiled Maya with her hands folded. Garima and Riddhesh too decided to help them. Finally it was the time to execute their plan. So they arranged for a nurse at Gungun's cabin and everyone left for Saraswati Nivaas.
