Kishwar's karva chauth!

Karva Chauth is a Hindu festival where married women observe a fast and do puja for the well-being and longevity of their husband's lives. And even our telly actors follow suit. Joining the clan is none other than Kishwar Merchant who is gearing up for the day (tomorrow). Yes, you heard it right!

Does that mean Kishwer is already married? She clarifies, "No, I am not married yet but I am keeping the fast for Hiten. Geeta aunty (his mother) will keep the 'sargi' and glass bangles for me which I will collect tonight. I will apply mehendi tomorrow," says the excited actor.

This year she will fast without having even a drop of water till she sees the moon and her chand - Hiten. "Last year too I had kept the fast but not this severe since I was working. This time it's my day off so I can afford to observe a complete fast. This is the first time I will be wearing a salwar-kameez in my real life," she reveals about the new dress that she has bought herself for the auspicious occasion.

Though Kishwer's track as Seema bhabhi to Pushkar (Naman Shaw) in Kasamh Se on Zee has ended, she will soon be seen in Kaajjal on Sony TV with grey shades as Ameesha bhabhi to Dev Pratap Singh (Apurva Agnihotri).

While she is not in the loop about the gift that Hiten has planned for her as it is intended to be a surprise, we got to know of it from the horse's (Hiten's) mouth - "I am gifting her a set of diamond earrings and pendant."

Who said one had to tie the ubiquitous knot, it's all in the mind dearies! Kudos to these soul mates!

SHOWBUZZ NETWORK | Friday, September 29, 2006 13:51:47 IST
..in the most unexpected form. To find out how tune into Sony on Oct 9
</>

It's raining new shows and the latest to join the bandwagon is Sony's Kaajjal - Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi. Set in the picturesque town of Mussourie, the simple fairytale love story is about Kaajjal, a radio jockey, who lives with her doting father and caring aunt.
Like the proverbial rooster, she wakes the township with her popular morning radio show. Everybody in this scenic township simply loves this spirited, adorable young girl. As you follow Kaajjal's journey, a poignant love story unfolds... Kaajjal dreams about her knight in shinning armour... and she finds love…but in the most unexpected form.
Dev is the debonair scion of a business empire. He has a dark past, which has made him bitter, a recluse and a loner. He is unapproachable, unsocial and comes across as being arrogant.
There comes a time when Kaajjal and Dev, who are constantly picking on each other, decide never to cross each other's path. Yet destiny wills otherwise.
The star cast of Kaajjal - Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi include Rati Agnihotri, Rita Bahaduri, Rohit Bakshi, Apoorva Agnihotri and Surveen Chawla (as Kaajjal) in lead roles. The show starts on October 9, and will air every Monday to Thursday at 8.00 p.m.

'True romantics are blessed with soul mates'

We explore whether the enduring appeal of this genre exists just on reel life or in real life as well.

From Jane Austen to Mills & Boon, the allure of romantic fiction has never faded. Boy meets girl, cupid strikes, they fight all odds to be with each other, and they live happily ever after... But do fairytales exist? "They do", avers Shilpa Saklani who's married to actor Apurva Agnihotri, "If you are a true romantic, you are blessed with your soul mate."

Based on these lines, Sony Entertainment Television airs tonight – Kaajjal Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi set in mint fresh locales of Mussourie. While Apurva Agnihotri plays the role of an outwardly brash Veer Pratap Singh, the female lead is played by Surveen Chawla. Talking about her character in the serial, she divulges, "Kaajjal is a lovable radio jockey who dreams about her knight in shining armour. But life takes a U-turn when he turns out to be different from what she had imagined."

So is the concept of 'Mr Right' a myth? Actor Gurdip Kohli, who's tying the knot with fianc Arjun Punjj this December, denies, as she is living her dream, "As a kid I dreamt of a prince on a white horse and Arjun actually managed to sweep me off my feet! Whether it's a surprise dinner on a yacht or exotic holidays, he makes me feel like a princess."

Some like Mona (Jassi) Singh believe that someday they'll meet their 'dream man'. "Like Madhuri Dixit's character in Dil To Pagal Hai, I'm a die hard romantic. My 'Prince Charming' should be tall, not-so-dark, definitely handsome," she smiles. Actor Nausheen Sardar, however wonders, "If there's someone special who'll treat me like a princess? At times I fear – what if Mr Right is not so right after all?"

No matter what the belief, it's undeniable that watching a relationship culminating in 'eternal harmony' leaves one hopeful. "After a hard day's work we want to watch something that assures us that all's well," Shilpa explains the rationale behind the popularity of this genre.

So, will the latest tele-love-hate relationship between Kaajjal and Veer prove to be heart-tugging? To find out, catch Kaajjal Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi, every Monday-Thursday, at 8 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.

Rahe Na Rahe on its way

Looks like it's pouring soaps! Production house Twenty Twenty is busy readying it's next mega project tentatively titled Rahe Na Rahe. The family drama which was earlier named as Dus Bahane Karke le gaye Dil is expected to hit the television tube in early October. According to sources, the show might replace Aisa Des hai Mera on Sony TV.

Tellychakkar.com's source reveals that Rahe Na Rahe is a family drama about three brothers but with a modern outlook. Sachin Verma, Kushal Punjabi and Apoorva Agnihotri are the three brothers. The other cast includes Surveen Chawla, Kavita Kaushik, Salil Acharya (B4U Vj) and Nimai Bali (CID Special Squad), Veteran actor Rati Agnihotri has been approached to be a part of this mega serial. This will be her first venture into the world of television.

The story begins with Rati Agnihotri not being able to conceive inspite of being married for a long time, so she persuades her husband to get married once again. Of the three brothers Apoorva will play the role of the youngest and the biological child of Rati. Surveen Chawla plays the love interest of Apoorva and is believed to be essaying a very vivacious and a bubbly character but will meet with sudden death as she is shown suffering from cancer.

Kavita Kaushik plays Kushal Punjabi's wife. She is too excited of being part of such a mega soap. " I am yet to begin with the shooting, so I cannot say much about the show. The only thing that I can divulge is that it's a typical relationship based serial with all the melodrama involved," says a visibly excited Kavita. Nimai Bali will render the evil angle, he creates problem in the happy life of these three brothers.

While Salil Acharya did not reveal anything. He says, " It's a great concept which has not been experimented as such on television. My character has shades of grey that is the primary reason that I opted to play the role. I not only found the script absolutely fabulous but also the manner of work done by the production house impressed me greatly."

On contacting the production house was reluctant to reveal anything in detail about the show.

Sony to launch 'Kaajjal' on 9 Oct; 'Bigg Boss' coming mid-November

By BIJOY A K
Indiantelevision.com Team

(27 September 2006 5:30 am)

MUMBAI: The channel may have dropped out of the ratings reckoning, but Sony Entertainment India is now making its best efforts to make a comeback.

Sony will unleash its big ticket soap Kaajjal, produced by K Sera Sera's Twenty Twenty TV, on 9 October, whereas the much-awaited Bigg Boss, the Indianised version of Big Brother, is targeting a mid-November launch.
"We are planning to launch Kaajjal, a daily soap, on 9 October. The schedule and slot details for this soap are yet to be finalised," Sony COO NP Singh tells indiantelevision.com, while not revealing his plans for Bigg Boss.

However, market sources inform that Bigg Boss will hit the airwaves by mid-November - immediately after the Champions Trophy gets over. "Bigg Boss will be a prime time show, running Monday through Friday. The show will feature about 15 celebrities and the participants will include Bollywood stars, cricketers and politicians. Bigg Boss will get over by January 2007," says a source.

According to Singh, Sony will kick off the Bigg Boss promotions by the second week of October. "The on-air promotions are already on. Now we will be looking at outdoors and the other media platforms in a big way for the second phase of the campaign," he says.

The Indian version of Bigg Brother will be Sony's fourth Endemol acquisition after Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul and Fear Factor India. Reportedly, Big Brother contributes to over 25 per cent of the format owner Endemol's revenues internationally.

The Big Brother (Bigg Boss) format requires 10 - 15 contestants living in a house rigged with cameras recording every moment of their lives. The contestants are deprived of contact with the outside world except those allowed by the editorial team. Every week there are tasks to perform, which test their community spirit and team-work. Throughout the series, the contestants are required to nominate two of their number to be voted out of the house.

Bigg Boss acquires a crucial place in Sony's gameplan for the coming days as nearest rivals Star and Zee have also unveiled big projects to sustain their performance. Star Plus has launched Betiyaan apni yaa…Paraaya Dhan pre-Diwali to boost its 8 pm slot. Zee has launched its mega soap project Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann for the crucial 10 pm slot and has Antakshari and Cine Star Ki Khoj coming up next in the pipeline.

Star One is gunning for huge jump in channel shares with Nach Baliye 2, the celebrity dance show that propelled the channel's performance in 2005. Countering the Star property is Sony's Jhalak Dikhla Ja, the Indian adaptation of the ABC reality show Dancing with the Stars.

For the time being, Sony's gameplan has a lot to do with these well acclaimed international formats. It remains to be seen, whether these international properties will be able to drive Sony to a position of strength in the coming days.
