Part 1

Jyoti & Kalpana enter the court. Kalpana tells Jyoti that they should appoint a lawyer, but Jyoti tells her that it's not needed. The judge enters and the proceedings begin. The judge summons one couple (not P&J) for their hearings.

At home, Padma & Dadi are teaching Poonam how to make papad. She messes up the first attempt, and they all have a good laugh. Sushma steps up and shows bhabi how to do it, and the 2 of them seem to be on much friendlier terms. Dadi makes her wisecracks about Poonam being a queen, and Padma praises her for recognizing that they've brought home a princess. This time, Poonam too enjoys the joke. The bell rings, and they speculate that it's the dhobi. In response to Dadi's incredulity, Padma tells her that the bahus clothes have been given to the dhobi as they are much more expensive & delicate. The dhobi comes in and gives the clothes to Sushma.

Back @ court, the judge is hearing a case about a couple who've been married 6 years, who start arguing about their domestic problems and why they can no longer live together, despite having a kid. She complains that he comes home drunk, and he complains that she doesn't tend to his needs. The lawyer for the defense states that these 2 are much happier after splitting. (How is there a 'defense' in this case if both sides are willing to divorce? Who is it advocating the marriage continuing? The judge? Looks like, judging from this episode. πŸ€”πŸ˜•)

The judge says that whenever a family splits up, nobody is happy. Divorce is just a court order on a piece of paper. He tells them that he's seen many families come apart, but come back together again. (Jyoti and Pankaj both look concerned, realizing that this judge isn't going to grant a divorce easily, no matter how agreeable they are w/ one another.) He asks them what they want, but opines that they should give it 6 more months. He urges them to think about their kid. These messages hit Jyoti as well, while she listens. (Sad that it takes this judge to tell them what neither KK nor MN is willing to
πŸ€”). The judge continues that they should think about their kid, and come back to court if this next attempt doesn't work. The hubby in this case agrees to try it out.

Back @ home, Sushma notices Poonam's cosmetics, and goes and tries one out. Poonam comes there and notices it, and is pretty upset that Sushma took it w/o asking. She calls Padma and complains, and says that she'd have bought a new one for Sushma had she asked. Sushma tells her that she's needlessly escalating a minor issue. Poonam tells them that according to her father, using used cosmetics increases the risk of infection. Sushma tells her that all 3 sisters used to share cosmetics, including lipstick, and Poonam is disgusted. Sushma is outraged, and tells her that she will have to learn to share things, just as she is learning to make papads. Padma tells Sushi that in this case, the fault is actually Sushi's - she should have at least asked Poonam her permission before touching her stuff.
(Padma is right here, but she could have told Poonam to be more flexible, and agreed w/ her that while somethings like lipstick can't be shared, other things, like varnish can. But being fair has never been Padma's strong point.)

Later, Padma sees Sushma sitting in her room and brooding. She invites her to come and eat, but Sushma brushes her off.
(Finally, the price tag of partiality comes back to bite Padma in the hineyπŸ˜†πŸ˜†) Padma explains to her that unlike them, Poonam has never had any siblings, and so isn't used to sharing stuff: give her time to get used to it. Sushma tells her that these things need to be explained to Poonam as well, but Padma only finds fault w/ Sushma. Padma explains that already in the house, 2 marriages have broken up, and she wants Deepu's marriage to last.

Part 2

The judge summons Jyoti & Pankaj Vashisth. Both of them take their respective stands. The defense says that it's an open and shut case, since both have signed on the divorce papers. He says that for the last 1 year, Jyoti has been living @ her maayka, so it's just a question of completing the formalities. He asks Pankaj whether he's accurately stated things. Pankaj nods. The judge then asks Jyoti why doesn't she have a lawyer, and the defense says she doesn't need one, since it's a mutual understanding. The lawyer then asks Jyoti whether there are any family or mental pressures on her to go ahead w/ this divorce? Jyoti hesitates, knowing that the truth will shatter the case, while a falsehood would be downright perjury. The counsel tries to interfere, but is reprimanded by the judge. The judge repeats the question to Jyoti on why she wants this - she's even declined any alimony. He asks her whether her in-laws pressurized her into not taking it? Jyoti is at a complete loss now, despite the judge's encouragement to state her case w/o fear. He tells her that she even has the right to change her written testimony. Jyoti looks @ CM & Pankaj in dispair.

Part 3

The judge tells Jyoti to answer his questions. Jyoti denies the suggestions made, and the judge asks her why is she not happy? He tells her that it seems that she's regretting marrying a blind person, and now wants out. Jyoti is still speechless. The judge tells her that sometimes, people themselves don't know what they want. He then reminds them that when they married, they did promise to dedicate their lives to each other. He believes that once a bond is established, it's never to be broken. With time, it either improves or worsens. The relationship has to be managed, and he urges them to do it. (All this time, the look on CM's face was just priceless, while Neelam's parents were panicky 🀣) The judge then suggests to them what he suggested to the last guy - to give it another try, and 6 more months. Jyoti looked dismayed @ Pankaj to see his reaction, while Pankaj, CM & Neelam's parents looked shocked @ the judge. Sudha, Uday & Kalpana heaved a sigh of relief, while Jyoti looked stunned @ the order. The episode ends.

Promo

The defense in the case continues by stating that Jyoti has lived away from her hubby for 1 year, and is now 2 months pregnant. Jyoti is angered to hear this.

Comments

I liked the judge in this case from the get go, who seemed to be more of a marriage counselor, rather than an arbiter. He explained to the first couple, who had been married 5 years longer than Pankaj had, about the consequences of their decision, to the end that the hubby relented and agreed to his 6 month formula. Having said that, although I laud this judge, I'm somewhat surprised @ a judge being a social activist and marriage counselor, rather than simply interpreting the law and ordering it enforced. But this one did what KK and MN failed to do to their kids.

I liked every step of his interrogation of Jyoti. I just wish Jyoti had done what she did w/ Mahesh Trivedi and blurted out the truth - it would only have been in answer to questions the judge posed, like whether she was being pressured, why did she want to divorce, etc. Jyoti could have improved the chances of the divorce going through by blackening Bhairavi's name - she could have told the judge that due to the torture that she was subjected to by Bhairavi, she doesn't want to go back, even though she is expecting a baby, and that Pankaj is subjecting her to humiliation that no woman can be expected to take. Sure, it will dent that fabled Vashisth izzat, but truthfully, the only 2 black marks on the Vashisth izzat are Bhairavi and Pankaj. Now, Jyoti is bound to be blamed by Bhairavi for not answering the judges questions in a manner that would grant the quick divorce.

When it came to Pankaj vs Jyoti, I now hate the way they drag things - when Pankaj & Jyoti were passing each other while on their way to taking their stands, they paused to look at each other - this was downright annoying. And when Jyoti was asked whether the stated version of events was correct, she started getting flashbacks of her wedding. Puhleeezzzz, enough already - we've seen that stupid spiel a gazillion times - just get on w/ the damned show. Also, if ultimately, the divorce is going to happen, today's episode was pretty meaningless, since we know that Jyoti isn't about to go back to Pankaj's house for 6 months. That said, it was a hoot to see all that lying and perjury by Jyoti go down the drain 🀣

After seeing the way Poonam was adjusting, I thought that the bad blood was over b/w Sushma & Poonam, but nooooo. Really, how stupid is Sushma? After the flare-up over the saris, doesn't she know better than to sneak up and try any of Poonam's cosmetics? Is she such a baby that if she asks Poonam and the latter says no, she'll burst into tears? And Poonam too is too uptight - yeah, not all cosmetics can be shared, but that doesn't mean that none can. Does it? Also, she does need to climb down her high horse - first, it's the 2nd class trains, and now, used cosmetics. Geeeeeeeeez!!! I can see Padma's point that she doesn't want Deepu's marriage to go the way of Jyoti's & Sushma's, but if pandering to Poonam's unreasonable expectations is going to be the price, then Poonam won't have a successful bonding w/ her family. Padma was right about Sushma being @ fault for not asking permission, but given the number of times Padma had stolen things from the house on behalf of Sushma, she's one to speak.

Episode rating: πŸ‘πŸΌ
πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

A very good episode, w/ the only spoiler being the catfight b/w Sushma & Poonam over the cosmetics, and those stupid flashbacks that Jyoti has when doing things as mundane as walking past her loser (ex-?)hubby.

Thanks for the update Vrisha. Loved reading ur comments as alwaysπŸ˜†
I was a little confused with the judge today though, in the last scene. The "try living together for 6 months and work it out" ruling - was it a mere suggestion or an actual ruling? Also, it was super annoying how neither Pankaj or Jyoti said anything when the judge was asking them questions. Not to mention the numerous flashback scenes
Poonam was outrageously annoying, as usual.

I too was confused by the judge's last statement, until I saw the promo just now, updated above in the update. The tone of his remarks were more of a suggestion, but the reactions of everybody - CM, Neelams', Pankaj was as though it was an actual ruling. However, in tonight's episode, the defense will continue stating their case.

And yeah, Jyoti looked like a retard when it came to answering the judge's questions. After all those lectures she gives everybody @ home on moving on,..

If the defense does state what the promo states, it's high time Jyoti perks up and tells the judge that Bhairavi is the reason she can't live in that house.
